Rose Garden Mosaic for Pals Paper Arts

I'm a puzzle addict! I love all kinds of puzzles: Crosswords, Logic Puzzles, Cryptograms, Sudoku, and Jigsaw Puzzles. you name it.

So it is no surprise to find out that I was drawn to a Pinterest card design using the Rose Garden Thinlets and fitting different coloured pieces back into the frame to make a bit of a mosaic look. When I saw the Pals Paper Arts Colour Challenge this week, I know this was the time to test this technique out.

Here's how it turned out:

  • Using the Rose Garden Thinlits, I die cut the single rose three times: once in Tip Top Taupe for the frame, and once each in Watermelon Wonder and Pink Pirouette for the pieces to fill the frame.  Each time I used the Big Shot Die Brush to easily remove the little pieces and the frame itself from the die. I was careful to keep all the little pieces to use again.
  • The sentiment is from the Sunburst Sayings stamp set in the Occasions Catalogue. It was neat and trim and the perfect size for this design. It is stamped in Tip Top Taupe ink.
  • The 2015-17 In Colour Envelope Paper gave me the perfect striped design for a background and the Tip Top Taupe Dotted Lace Trim was a low key embellishment which didn't draw the eye away from the rose.
  • If you're thinking of trying this, I have a word of advice. It is much easier to apply the adhesive to the hole in the frame, rather than to the back of the piece that fits in it. That way, you don't get the glue all over as you pick up and turn to orient the tiny pieces. A pair of tweezers is very helpful.
And it's Tuesday, which means you can see the first Weekly Deals of February today:
