Past, Present and Future for Christmas Buffet Class

I have a busy week ahead of me! Besides a dentist appointment and a hair appointment, I have two classes coming up, and we're going away for four days of camping in our new fifth wheel the day after my last class! Also, I'll be away when I usually work on my newsletter, so I'll have to get that done this week as well as blog posts for the days I'll be away! Phew! So I was busy on the weekend making sure that I had samples ready for my two classes. One is a Christmas Buffet class, and I needed 8 samples for that. That really taxes your Christmas supplies, I can tell you! I had to rely on the products in the Annual Catalogue right now, plus a few retired products that I wanted to use up and quite a few of the products from the new Holiday catalogue, which doesn't go live until Sept. 1. So I was using Past, Present and Future products to prepare for this Buffet class. Hmm! Sounds like a good Christmas ghost story to me! What do you think?

I wanted to share a couple of those samples with you today:

They are a little bit similar in their layout, but use a whole range of products. Let's take a look at each one separately:

  • This card uses the stamp set, Christmas Pines, which was first featured in the 2016 Holiday Catalogue and which is now still available in the current Annual Catalogue. It has some great features including the two-step stamping fir branches, which I've done here in Emerald Envy and Lemon Lime Twist, and some distinctive sentiments such as the large Noel and the Season of Joy!
  • The background DSP is called *Merry Music, which is from the new 2017 Holiday Catalogue. It is a Specialty Designer Series Paper and feature pages of sheet music and snowflakes on a thinner paper. You get a lot for your money with this set, so it's a really good deal.
  • I stamped the fir branches right on the DSP using Emerald Envy for the darker ink and Lemon Lime Twist for the lighter colour. The small sentiment is also stamped, in Emerald Envy, right on the DSP.
  • The Noel is stamped on a stitched oval shape in Berry Burst and backed with some Berry Burst cardstock, using a scallop oval shape from the Layering Ovals Framelits. It's mounted over a Berry Burst Crinkled Seam Binding ribbon. The card is finished with a sprinkling of rhinestones.
*Products from the upcoming 2017 Holiday Catalogue, available for order starting Sept. 1.

  • The background for this card is also from the *Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper, with a kind of snowflake design.
  • The card front is made from some old, old, retired Brushed Gold Cardstock that we used to carry. If there's something I wish Stampin' Up! would bring back, this would be it. It adds such a sophisticated elegance to cards. It also came in Silver. But I've used a future product from the new Holiday Catalogue on this card and that is the *Winter Wonder Embossing Folder! It's a large snowflake pattern intended to be more of a focal point than a background. It shows up wonderfully in the Brushed Gold cardstock.
  • The ribbon is from our past Occasions Catalogue and is no longer still available.
  • The die cut sentiment is from a retired set called Wonderful Wreathe Framelits. Before die-cutting, I placed the Basic Black cardstock on some Multipurpose Adhesive sheets, and once the word was die cut, all that was needed was to remove the backing and it became a sticker that was easily adhered to my project.
  • The Gold Faceted Gems added some much needed interest and balance to the design.

Colorful Seasons for The Paper Players

Happy Friday! And I'm happy to be able to play along with The Paper Players this week finally! It's been quite awhile. They have a colour challenge going on over there and I thought it was a good time to use a little fall design with my Colorful Seasons bundle. It's so great for year round designs, so I wanted to show you the versatility of the set.

Here's the challenge banner:

These are really tropical colours, but I thought they could also be early fall colours, when the foliage is mostly green, and just beginning to show a little hint of orange.

  • I love the sentiment. It is versatile as well: could be a birthday, a wedding, a retirement, an anniversary - you name it!
  • My favourites are the lacy leaves as I like to call them, die cut using the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, part of the bundle. They make such a statement on a card, and they are so easy to die cut!
  • I wanted to off set the layers a bit for an asymmetrical look.
And that's all, folks! Enjoy your weekend! Don't forget to cash in your Bonus Days coupons before the end of August!

Painted Harvest For Fall Weather

I am actually looking forward to fall weather! I usually am pretty reluctant to see the warm summer days go, but this year, our lovely sunny days have been marred by smoke! This has been one of the worst years ever for wild fires in British Columbia, and with several weeks left in fire season, could end up being the worst ever in terms of hectares burned. All the fires have caused the air quality to be extremely poor and many days it was not pleasant being outdoors and hard on your lungs and eyes.

So, cooler weather, with sweaters, frost, RAIN, and pumpkin spice anything is sounding pretty welcoming right now! I was very excited to celebrate that with my first card using a gorgeous new stamp set from the upcoming 2017 Holiday Catalogue called *Painted Harvest. If you were to ask me what the best thing from the new catalogue was, I think I would have to choose this set. The art work is stunning and you can create some absolutely gorgeous fall scenes with it. Pair it with the coordinating *Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper and bundle it with the *Leaf Punch, and you've got yourself an incredible set.

*Products from the 2017 Holiday Catalogue, available for purchase Sept. 1, 2017.

Here's what I came up with:

  • The sunflowers actually use 3 step stamping to get to where you see them here. I like to start with the more detailed stamp in a darker colour. Here, I used Peekaboo Peach. Then I stamp the background colour in Crushed Curry and finally, the center in Early Espresso. I kind of love how they turned out. I fussy cut them because there are no framelits to go along with this set.
  • The leaves are also 2 step stamping. The 3 leaf twig is stamped first in Early Espresso and then in Garden Green, while the frond-like leaf is Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry. While I also had to fussy cut the frond-like leaf, the other leaf could be punched using the new *Leaf Punch, which is part of the bundle with this stamp set.
  • The sentiment is from the new *Labels to Love stamp set, also from the upcoming Holiday Catalogue. It pairs with the new *Everyday Label Punch, but is not with the bundle. I first stamped the frame using Early Espresso ink, then inked up the sentiment using Crushed Curry and Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write Markers.
  • The background panel is from the *Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper, which is handpainted and gorgeous in it's own right! I created some texture using Linen Thread and Burlap Ribbon, and added a few Enamel Dots.
*Products from the 2017 Holiday Catalogue, available for purchase Sept. 1, 2017.
