Amazing You with a Surprise Background

I got a little adventurous today and spent some time exploring our local papercrafting store, which is something I rarely do, but it's a good idea sometimes to see what's new out there and what trends are happening beyond our little Stampin' Up! cloister. I came home with something new to play with and you can see it in the background of today's card featuring the Amazing You stamp set, which is one of the first Sale-A-Bration Reward stamp sets.

I wanted to enter my card in the latest challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches this week:

I am also entering it in a fun challenge over at Stamp, Ink, Paper, where they have a Tic,Tac,Toe going on.
I started out aiming to enter, then changed my design as I went along and didn't think I would qualify, but I took a second look and my card fits two rows, Word die cut, flowers, and punch; and sequins, ribbons and punch! Happy surprise!

The "something new" turned out to be something called Embellishment Mousse by nuvo. It gives metallic dimensional details to your craft projects. The name 'Mousse" I think is a bit misleading. The product is not really light and fluffy like a cream. It has more of a thick, shoe polish-like consistency, but you can create texture using masks or you can simply blend it on with a sponge or blending tool for a very cool background effect. The two colours that I picked are very close to Flirty Flamingo and Peekaboo Peach as you can see by the comparison to the same coloured cardstock in the photo. nuvo names these two colours Peony Pink and Calypso Coral, coincidentally! Take a closer look in this larger photo:

  • I used sections of Stamping Sponges to sponge on and blend the Embellishment Mousse to my background. It was very easy to apply. I dried it using a Heat Tool and stamped the script image from the Host stamp set, Background Bits. (Host stamp sets are only available to workshop hosts who have earned Stampin' Rewards with the workshop order.)
  • I used Versamark Ink and then heat embossed it with Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder. I was pleased to see that the embossing powder didn't stick to the Embellishment Mousse after I had dried it for thirty seconds or so.
  • The poppy image from Amazing You  was stamped twice using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and coloured in using the dark and light shades of Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends Markers and the dark shade of the Pink Pirouette marker.
  • The darker poppy was punched out with a 2 1/2" Circle Punch (retired). I fussy cut the second, lighter poppy and added it to the first, popping it up with a couple of Stampin' Dimensionals. The whole thing was mounted on a silver Metallic  Foil Doily of the larger size.
I was very happy with this creation when I was finished and happy that I had gone and done a bit of exploring outside the box! What do you think about this new product??

I've highlighted several Sale-A-Bration Rewards today. How many have you earned so far? You still have a month and a half to go to earn at least one of them. It takes spending $60 before tax and shipping to earn a Level 1 Reward and $120 to earn a Level 2 Reward. And Stampin' Up! has released the new Sale-A Bration Rewards today. That's all for today. Have a great weekend! It's supposed to snow here again, so that's getting a little old. I'm so ready for spring! But one must be patient, I suppose. It is coming!
