Animal Outing with Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper

June is the month in my family when there are a crazy number of birthdays! So I'm in the midst of birthday cards and gift ordering for grandkids! I also have a number of friends hitting milestone birthdays this year and there are no fewer than 3 special birthday parties in a 2 weekend time frame, plus an engagement party! When you add to that the craziness of a new catalogue launch and the wrap up of the old catalogues, my mind is spinning and I'm playing a major game of catch up! Oh, yeah, and my sister's birthday is in there as well!

First thing first is my youngest grandchild's 2nd birthday! Pippa looks like an angel with her golden curls, but don't let that fool you! She's as tough as nails and fearless! Nevertheless, she is an awesome snuggler and so loving to cuddle with!

I wanted to explore some new colours and papers today, so I got out the new Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper* and the new colour Mango Melody* from the Brights collection. I also decided to use the Animal Outing Photopolymer Stamp Set*, all new products.

*New products from the 2018/19 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue available to purchase starting June 1, 2018.

Here's how the whole thing turned out:

  • The Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper* is like a ready made card almost. You choose the design you want and cut it out from the larger sheet, then adhere it over your background and it looks amazing. Here are some of the designs:
  • It's very delicate and can be tricky to cut, but oh-so-gorgeous! And the kicker is that one side of the paper is Whisper White and one side is Very Vanilla! Double the usability!
  • The card base is a new colour, Mango Melody, which belongs to the Brights collection. Such a bright cheery colour and great for a giraffe, I thought!
  • I used the Layering Ovals Framelits to die cut a scallop oval shape for the center of the oval from the specialty paper and added my images and sentiment to that. The giraffe from the Animal Outing stamp set* is stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink (which is gone, gone, gone) on Mango Melody cardstock and fussy cut. There are coordinating framelits, I just haven't been able to purchase them yet.
*New products from the 2018/19 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue available to purchase starting June 1, 2018.

  • The sentiment is from the set replacing the old Teeny Tiny Wishes. It's called Itty Bitty Greetings and has a total of 32 stamps with greetings for almost every occasion you could think of! And they fit in almost every punch as well! I used the Classic Label Punch, trimming off one end and mounting it on the popped up giraffe.
  • That ribbon is new. It's a 1/8" Grosgrain Ribbon that comes in all the new In Colours. This one is Grapefruit Grove.

2 More Sleeps!!

The new 2018/19 Annual Catalogue goes live at noon on Friday, June 1! I will be putting in an order on that same day, so let me have your orders by 10:00 am Friday, June 1st if you want in on it. I'll be posting about my product shares by Friday as well, so keep watching here.

Sea of Textures for Freshly Made Sketches and Double PCC Points

Happy Monday to you! I had fun this weekend visiting my youngest daughter and watching her perform in Grease in a local theatre production in her town.

Now, I am back, ready to face the whirlwind that is the last week of the old Annual Catalogue and the first week of the New Annual Catalogue. Have you got your wishlist ready? Do you even have your catalogue yet? The first batch went out with the early May orders, but let me know if you would like one and I'll see that you get one as soon as I can. Or you could come to my Catalogue Launch on June 9th and pick up one then.

Freshly Made Sketches had a unique sketch this week for their challenge:

Wanting to try out some more of my new stamp sets, I thought that the Sea of Textures Stamp Set* would be perfect for the vertical elements of this sketch! Here's how it turned out:

  • I'm a pushover for anything remotely nautical or beachy, so this Sea of Textures* set is right up my alley! And throw in some unique texture stamps and I'm "hooked"!  The long strands of seaweed were perfect for the vertical pieces in this design and I used some old and some new "sea colours" together! My goodness, we have some beautiful blues, greens and teals in our collection. I used the new Soft Seafoam* and Mint Macaron*, plus the old Island Indigo, Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide and they all look amazing together here!
  • The background paper is from the new Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper* which features not only some of those amazing colours, but also some great textures, not just for sea designs. Some are generic enough to use for many different themes. I used one of the designs here.
  • The sentiment is from this Sea of Textures stamp set* as well, with one of the fish skin-like textures stamped off in the background of it. It's diecut using one of my retired old favourites, the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits.
  • I added some starfish and a clam shell from the retiring Seaside Shore stamp set. Do you have that one? If you want it, I will be submitting my last order tomorrow so contact me before then. I used some 1/4" Copper Trim, opened out like a fish net as the final embellishment.

Diagonal Fold Card Using Petal Passion Paper

I've been working on reorganizing my craft room (aka my second hobby) to accommodate the Colour Revamp Stampin' Up! has done this year, and besides being frustrated at having 3 more colours so that my current paper and ink storage solutions don't work any more without some compromises, I was able to really look at the new colour families and appreciate them and all the choices that we will have with the new Annual Catalogue come June 1!! When I look at the new families sitting together in my Colour Caddy they just look so inviting and, well, luscious! I can't wait to try them all! And I really do love the new Classic Stampin' Pad configuration. So much simpler and just as functional.

I was planning on trying out a new fancy fold today, one that I watched Julie Davison make in a video tutorial. It's called a Diagonal Fold card, and it's really quite easy to do. I wanted to use some DSP in the back panel, but I needed to use some that haven't sold out yet , and Petal Passion DSP from the Occasions Catalogue is one of the few. With the black and white theme, my choice of colour would be green, so I decided to take a new Bright colour - Granny Apple Green* for a test drive - and I love it!

*New products from the 2018/19 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue available to purchase starting June 1, 2018.
This fits with the latest The Paper Player's Challenge:

The most CAS part of my card is on the inside, but there are definitely floral elements from the Petal Palette stamp set, so I decided to enter.

  • I won't give a ton of details on how to accomplish the diagonal fold, but you can watch Julie Davison's video tutorial, and I'm hoping to do one of my own in the next week or two. Suffice it to say that it is fairly easy to do.
  • I stamped the images and sentiment from the Petal Palette stamp set using Basic Black Archival Ink which is an old favourite of mine, but alas, all sold out now. An alternative that we will continue to sell is StazOn Jet Black, and it has the added benefit of that awesome almond smell!
  • I squeezed the middle of the Granny Apple Green, Coastal Cabana, and Flirty Flamingo Classic Stampin' Pads (new design) to get a spot of ink in the lid and used a fairly dry aqua painter to paint the flowers, leaves and bird on the front panel. I purposely left the painting rather rough and primitive to match the stamping style of the set.
  • When you open the card with the diagonal cut in it, the bottom of the green flap is glued to the bottom of the card to form a small side pocket for a Gift Card or Gift Certificate. Another sentiment is stamped at the top of the page. This card would make a great wedding or anniversary greeting. One thing to remember is to only apply glue to the front panel on the top of the diagonal line so that you have no sticky adhesive where you don't have cardstock to support it underneath.
What do you think of the Granny Apple Green? It's perfect for the Brights family isn't it? It takes the place of Old Olive, which has been moved to the Regals.

Don't forget to get your last minute orders to me for the products in the 2017/18 Annual Catalogue and the 2018 Occasions Catalogue that are retiring. My last order will be going in on Tuesday, May 29th.

Speaking of paper and ink, these products will have significant price increases in the Canadian catalogue June 1, so if you stock up now, you will save yourself some money! Also, you should purchase any bundles from this past year now. All bundles from these two catalogues retire and you can save yourself 10% by ordering them now before the catalogue is done.

Procrastination!!
