Magnolia Memories Wreath for Summer

Ever since watching a video from Stampin' Up! about how to use the *Good Morning Magnolia stamp set and the *Magnolia Memories dies to make beautiful 3D magnolia flowers, I've wanted to make something with the 3D flowers on it. I needed a new summer wreath for my front door and I decided that would be a good weekend project to try them out.

*These products will be available in the 2019 - 2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue, starting June 4, 2019.

I changed things up quite a bit from the video. I sponged my flowers in Petal Pink instead of So Saffron, I used a two layer center in different colours, and I didn't have the new *Hot Air Balloon Punch to make the large petals, so I had to improvise a bit with the Lemon Builder Punch instead. Anyway, have a closer look:

  • I started out with a half styrofoam wreath: cut through the middle sideways so that the back is flat and wrapped it with strips of burlap, securing the burlap with fast fuse/hot glue.
  • I created a bow from one of the strips of burlap folding it over on itself and pinching it in the middle and tying it first in braided linen trim, then wrapping that with some 3/8" Black Shimmer Ribbon. I was wishing that I had some really wide Black Satin ribbon to make a complete elegant Black Bow, that would contrast more with the brown burlap.
  • Each magnolia flower has the three sizes of triple petal die cuts from the *Magnolia Memories dies, but the three large flowers has an additional 5 petals punched from the Lemon Builder Punch, with the top trimmed off flat glued onto a 1 1/2" circle punched out.
  • Each piece is sponged with Petal Pink ink using a sponge dauber, lightly swabbing the ink from the base toward but not reaching the tip of each petal. Each petal is also curved up using a bone folder. Then each layer is centered on the last and glued in place by a drop of the Liquid Multipurpose Glue.
  • Two centers are cut for each, one in Flirty Flamingo and one in So Saffron, sponged a bit each in the Petal Pink ink, and ruffled a bit with the bone folder. They are layered with the yellow over the pink and glued together then added to the center of the flower. A Gold Faceted Gem finishes off the center.

  • I wanted some stiff twine with which to embellish each of the larger flowers, so I took a length of the 5/8" Burlap Ribbon and trimmed off the individual fibres to use. They have considerably more stiffness than the same length of linen thread. I used hot glue to attach them to the back of the flowers.
  • I used a combination of hot glue and straight pins to attach the flowers to the wreath, just down the right side, leaving the left side mostly bare burlap.
With the colours used, especially in light of the palette of the product suite, with it's Petal Pink, craft and Basic Black, this wreath looks awesome on my black front door!
