A Beautiful Red Cardinal for a Toile Christmas

A couple of notes before I start today. First, the second blog hop I am a part of was delayed until next Tuesday night, so it is happening, just not when I originally thought it would. Second, I apologize if I go overboard on the Christmas cards this next couple of weeks. I have a Christmas Buffet class coming up for which I need 8 samples for that class, and as we are going to be away all next week, I am preparing them now. A card in the hand is worth a card on a blog post for most stamping bloggers, I'm sure, so you will be seeing a sleigh full of them! Brace yourself!

Today's sample is one for the Buffet class. It looks imposing, but it's quite simple to make! In other words, the perfect card for a Buffet class where I can't give a lot of instruction. Here's a close up:

  • I've always loved cardinals on Christmas cards. They are a holiday icon for me with their bright red plumage and feathered crest! That's why I got the *Toile Christmas stamp set in my pre-order. I didn't want my customer's to have to colour the bird in, so I stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Real Red cardstock and die cut it using the *Christmas Cardinal Dies.
  • For the same reason, I stamped the branch on a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, also in the Memento ink, and then I only had to colour in a few leaves and berries, which I did with Real Red Stampin' Blends Combo and Granny Apple Green Combo. With the darker Crumb Cake cardstock, the green actually approaches Garden Green in hue.
  • The background paper is from the *Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper and the center is Very Vanilla cardstock, die cut with one of the Rectangle Stitched Dies.
  • The sentiment is one of a few very lovely ones from the stamp set and it's stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock and again, die cut with one of the dies from the *Christmas Cardinal Dies.
  • Everything is glued down except the cardinal and the sentiment, which are popped up on dimensionals.

  1. I love cardinals, too, especially for Christmas. This is a beautiful card and I think that stamping him on red CS was a stroke of genius on your part.
