Stippled Rosed & Wild Ferns for As You See It Challenge #323

stippled roses & wild ferns for aysi #323 1

I love Recipe Challenges and the latest one, cooked up by my team mate Jan, is a great one because it's so dramatic, it has a lot of colour ingredients, and it's different from usual. I love that! You've got to keep things interesting, right?
Here's the Challenge Banner:
challenge #323

Although there are a lot of new stamp sets from the 2024/2025 Annual Catalogue I could have chosen for this, I decided to use two sets from the just retired Jan/Apr Mini Catalogue. The sets themselves are not retired however, they were carried over into the new Annual Catalogue. Thank goodness, because I just didn't get enough time to play with them. So I used the Stippled Roses and Wild Ferns bundles. The other reason I chose these two was that I couldn't decide on what the "other colour" would be. I was vacillating between Lemon Lime Twist and Poppy Parade, both colours that are great looks with black and white. I finally decided to do two cards and use both colours, so Stippled Roses would go great with Poppy Parade and Wild Ferns with Lemon Lime Twist!

Anyway, take a look at how they turned out:

  • Both cards start out with Basic Black card bases, cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", and scored at 4 1/4".
  • The next layer is 4" x 5 1/4" and is Lemon Lime Twist for the Wild Fern card and Poppy Parade for the Stippled Blossom card.
  • I cut 2 pieces of 3 3/4" x 5" of Basic White cardstock and embossed each one using the new Dotted Circles 3D embossing folder. Wow! Now that is an enhanced texture! These panels were added to each of the card fronts.
  • On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped 3 of the fern images in Lemon Lime Twist as well as the sentiment you see in the photo. Switching to Poppy Parade I stamped the large roses image, the single rose image and the Happy Mother's Day sentiment.
  • I die cut all the Wild Fern image and sentiment with dies from the Wild Fern die set.
  • I die cut all the roses with dies from the Stippled Roses dies. The sentiment was die cut with a die from the Stylish Shapes dies.
  • I die cut a matte for the sentiment with a larger circle die from the Stylish Shapes set and Poppy Parade cardstock.
  • I die cut the 'fern frames' to surround the sentiment from Lemon Lime cardstock. A problem I encountered was: to completely surround the sentiment, you need to turn one of those die cuts over, but the backside of the die cut is not as good quality as the front. I remedied that by using what I could of the second border piece and cutting off what didn't fit, then tucking it up where there was no border piece.
  • The ferns that had been stamped and die cut were tucked in at two corners.
  • I wanted to add some bling, so chose the Iridescent Pearls.wild fern for aysi #323 2

Delicate Forest for As You See It Challenge #322

delicate forest for aysi #322

This week's As You See It Challenge is titled Mission Impossible, and it's about using your least used colour to make a card. Actually, it's a Fill-In-The-Blank Challenge, where you have to finish the sentence by filling in the blank, then use the words with which you filled in the blank to inspire your card. Here's the challenge banner to look at:

challenge #322

As you see, the sentence you have to complete by filling in the blank is: The colour I use the least in my crafting is: ___________. I would fill in that blank with the colour Blackberry Bliss! It's not that Blackberry Bliss is an ugly colour! Quite the contrary, it is rich and beautiful. The reason I shy away from using it can be encapsulated in this one photo:

purple fingers

Yes, it is an intense colour that gets all over everything, including my fingers, after which I tend to transfer it to other parts of my card where it is not wanted! All unknowingly! So I tend to avoid it!

Nevertheless, I accepted the mission, (I had no choice!!) and decided to go with the Delicate Forest stamp set. Here's how it turned out:

delicate forest for aysi #322 2

  • I took a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of Basic White cardstock in the landscape orientation, at inked up the large tree image from the Delicate Forest stamp set, then stamped it 3 times without reinking, with the darkest image being in the middle.
  • This layer was adhered to a Blackberry Bliss card base of 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4".
  • Then I cut a 1 1/4" x 5 1/4" piece of Petunia Pop, one of the new In Colours in the up coming 2024/25 Annual Catalogue. On it I stamped images of the flowering grasses from the Delicate Forest stamp set in varying degrees of intensity, by stamping either fully inked or stamped off.
  • I used a Blending Brush to add some Blackberry Bliss ink around the edges of the Petunia Pop cardstock to help blend in the images. This strip of cardstock was adhered over the Basic White Layer, even with the outside edges of the card base.
  • The sentiment, also from Delicate Forest, was stamped in Blackberry Bliss on Basic White and die cut with a new label die from the new Unbounding Love Dies, which will be available with the launch May 1st of the new 2024/25 Annual Catalogue. I simply used Seal to attach it to the right side of the strip.

CASEing Lynda Jacobson Day for New at SU

2023 hop banner

Welcome to our April NEW AT SU! Blog Hop! We love to share creative ideas from Stampin' Up! with you. I've really been looking forward to today's Blog Hop, because we're doing something completely different: we're CASEing a team member that we have been assigned, and I have been assigned Lynda Jacobson Day, from My Flutterby Moments. If you follow that link, you will not only find Lynda's awesome blog, but you should land right on the page with the cards I want to CASE. I love these cards because of the bright, appealing colours, and the attractive layout. The chemistry lab equipment is fun because you can add different coloured liquid to each, again in bright, appealing colours and you see it because the equipment is all see-through glass!

I decided to use the Brewed for You stamp set for my CASE because it, too, has glass vessels that I can colour liquids of different colours in, and you can see the colours. It also has some cute 'punny' sentiments that would fit on a card front like these. Then I got busy. I decided to use Daffodil Delight for one card base, and Coastal Cabana for the other, both Brights. The Coastal Cabana gives a change from Pumpkin Pie and creates a nice counterpoint to the yellow! Here they are:

caseing lynda day for new at su 1

  • I started with a bases of Daffodil Delight and Coastal Cabana cardstock measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", and scored at 4 1/4". I stamped a smaller 5 1/4" x 4" piece of the same colour for each with the bubbly foam stamp in the same colour inks all around the outside of this card layer.
  • I adhered these layers to their respective home bases.
  • I stamped the three different beverage containers twice on Basic White card stock using Memento Jet Black ink, then coloured each one in using Stampin' Blends Combo Packs in Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lolly, Granny Apple Green, Lemon Lime Twist, Melon Mambo, and Flirty Flamingo. I also stamped the two sentiments on left over pieces of Basic White, with Melon Mambo and Coastal Cabana ink.

  • The pieces were all die cut with the coordinating dies, and the sentiment cut with either the Deckled Circles dies or the Tailor Made Tags dies". The pieces were mounted on layers of Basic White, 4" x 3", using dimensionals. The tag had some blue Baker's Twine added and trimmed off after tying a bow. The other sentiment was mounted on a piece of Brights Colours Melon Mambo DSP and added with a mix of dimensionals and Stampin Seal.
  • Another piece of Brights DSP (One in Granny Apple Green and one in Lemon-Lime Twist), cut at 4 1/4" x 4" were added to the back of the the white layers and then added to the card front, centered with dimensionals.
  • I stamped the bubbles in some of the drinks and above them as shown. I added a bow in yellow Baker's Twine to the top of the round sentiment. Finally, I Add some Glossy Dots in blue and yellow!

I hope you enjoyed this project made with the Brewed for You Bundle, and honouring Team Member, Lynda Jacobson Day. I hope I've done her talent justice.
