Harvest Delights on the Easel

header

Welcome to our August NEW AT SU! Blog Hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are hoppin’ with creative paper crafting ideas to share with you. Today we are featuring the fun fold cards with a fall theme with products from either the Annual Catalogue or the 2022 Jul/Dec Mini Catalogue! I wanted to show you a fairly easy Easel fold card which is great for display, and I'm using the Rustic Harvest Suite with its Hello Harvest Bundle to create it.

The Rustic Harvest Designer Series Paper is a rich looking collection of fall designs featuring pumpkins, leaves, chrysanthemums and acorns. It uses Merry Merlot, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Mossy Meadow, Early Espresso, and surprisingly, Basic Black. I've used Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Mossy Meadow, Basic Black and then added in some Copper and Gold metallics for my design.

  • The standard card base is Cajun Craze cardstock. Over that is a layer of Rustic Harvest Designer Series Paper, in the Mossy Meadow colour. To make an easel card, cut a piece of cardstock in half at 4 1/4" on the short side to get a piece 4 1/4" x 11". On the long side, score at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2".
  • On a piece of Basic White cardstock I stamped the pumpkin image, the flower bouquet image and four leaf images, as well as the single small flower image in Versamark ink and covered them with Copper embossing powder. I then heat set them using the Heat Tool. Using the Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends combo I coloured in the pumpkin and using the Cajun Craze and Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends, as well as the Mossy Meadows Stampin' Blends Combo for the foliage and the pumpkin stem, and a little So Saffron Light on some of the puffy flowers I coloured in the bouquet and pumpkin stem.
  • I die cut all the pieces with the Rustic Pumpkin Dies, then die cut and embossed two more pumpkins using the Brushed Metallic Cardstock in copper and gold. I die cut the stems and vines from Mossy Meadows cardstock.

  • I assembled all the pieces as you see here. The bouquet, one of the leaves and two vine pieces are mounted on the inside of the card, on Dimensionals to create the "door stop" that keeps the easel open for display. There is a sentiment from the stamp set inside the card, stamped in Mossy Meadow ink.
  • The outer sentiment, also from the stamp set, is embossed in copper, on the banner that was die cut from Basic White using a die from Rustic Pumpkin Dies, with an identical backing die cut from Gold Brushed Metallic cardstock. I mounted it right on the 2 3/4" fold on the top flap of the card so it would pop up when the easel was folded.

I hope you enjoyed this autumn themed card made with the Rustic Harvest Suite! I know you would enjoy creating with this great suite of products!

A Tip of the Hat to Pop 'n Cuts!

I tip my hat to Karen Burniston of I am Not Left-Handed! She's the designer of the Pop 'n Cut Dies that Stampin' Up sells and a creative and amazing card designer as well!

I love the ideas she has on her blog.  You should definitely check it out on the link I gave you above. I'm sure she has no problem at all using these great little inventions.  After all, she came up with them.

Me?  Not so much.  You may remember me creating this card for a convention swap.  I struggled to get everything lined up properly and I had so many of them to do that I was pretty frustrated at the end.

Today, I guess I was sufficiently healed from the last trauma that I was ready to try again.  (Kind of like having a second baby! lol)  The pain came back to me pretty early into the creation process!  But I persevered and came up with what I think is a pretty cool card.

  • I glued the base and the DSP together before die cutting the card using the Pop 'n Cut base die, hoping to avoid the problems I had with the convention swap card.  That worked really well and kept the paper even.  I would advise you, if you are going to try this, to let the glue dry well before die cutting and folding the card, so that the pressure doesn't move the layers out of alignment.
  • I folded the top of the card in half to created an easel card.  I used the Deco Label Collection Framelits to cut  a shape out of the middle of the top of the card.  I then used the next largest framelit to cut the top half of the top of the card into a little frame.
  • I also cut two frames out of some Silver Foil cardstock by first cutting with the larger of the two framelits, then centering the smaller framelit inside and running it through the Big Shot again.  I saved the inside of one of them for the sentiment inside, that also acts as a ledge to hold the easel up.
  • I die cut four of the smallest Festive Flurries framelits, two each from Silver Foil cardstock and two from a page of Winter Frost DSP, strategically moving the framelit to cut out one of the snowflake designs on the paper.  I used snail to adhere the two snowflakes together with a length of thread sandwiched between the two.
  • Folding the top of the card in half leaves the frame to stay straight.  I positioned the snowflakes where I wanted them with glue dots, then over top of that I added one of the silver frames I made, using quite a few glue dots and some liquid multipurpose glue.
  • I used the Christmas Messages stamp set for the sentiment, stamping it in Island Indigo over a Coastal Cabana snowflake from the Festive Flurries stamp set. (Stamp off the Coastal Cabana snowflake once or twice to get a nice light image to stamp over with the sentiment.
  • I die cut the sentiment first with the 2 3/8" diameter Circle Framelit and used the 2 1/2" Circle Punch to punch out the matte in Island Indigo.  I mounted these on the Deco Label die cut and popped the whole thing up on Dimensionals to form the lip to catch the top of the easel card.
  • The whole card can be closed flat for mailing.  I was wishing I had smaller snowflake framelits to use so that the sentiment could be read through the front, but those were the smallest I had.
