Trusty Tools for As You See It Challenge #316

trusty tools for aysi #316

As you read this, I am nearly on my way to the Caribbean to enjoy some time in the sun, to break up the winter doldrums. That's one way to overcome the winter blues! The other way I often cheer my self up in the dead of winter is to buy more craft supplies!! What? You, too? Huh! I'd never have guessed!

Well, then, you could play along with As You See It Challenges newest event, our Fill-In-The-Blank Challenge #316, entitled "Yes, I do Need a Bigger Craft Room!" Thanks to our team member Jan, this one was fun to do, because, presumably one really likes their latest craft purchase and can't wait to play with it. Such was the case for the Trust Tool Bundle! I was trying to use my time very wisely, knowing that I had a Catalogue Launch before and two new AYSI Challenges in the time I was on holidays, so I needed 2 cards for both. I designed the 2 cards for the catalogue launch based on the criteria for the 2 challenges.  Here's the challenge banner for the first:

challenge #316

I made a Father's Day card using the tools and sentiments from the Trusty Tools stamp set and coloured them in various ways, then die cut them with the Trust Tools Dies. I used the dies for the background as well as some of the Trusty Toolbox DSP, which is a coordinating Sale-A-Bration reward you could earn if you bought the Trusty Tools bundled (or any other products that totaled $60 before tax and shipping)!

Purchase this bundle yourself if you want to make awesome masculine cards, or feminine cards too, judging from all the female DIYers out there on Instagram and TicToc.

Beary Cute for As You See It Challenge #310

beary cute for aysi #310 1

Vellum. One of the most versatile and lovely materials we crafters get to play with! Have you used vellum much? Do you have a favourite technique you like to use it with? If so then you will want to play along with As You See It Challenges #310 today, because we have a Fill-In-The-Blank Challenge that asks what your favourite way of using vellum is! Here's the challenge banner, created by yours truly:

challenge #310

My favourite thing to use vellum for is alcohol ink blended backgrounds, as you can see in the background of this card using the Beary Cute bundle:

  • To make the alcohol ink blended background, I took a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of vellum and scribbled various patches of Stampin' Blends markers in different shades of blues including Dark Night of Navy, Dark Pool Party, Dark Balmy Blue and Dark Tahitian Tide from the top left to the bottom right of the sheet.
  • I then spritzed them with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Make sure it is at least 97% alcohol, or the water content will be too great and your vellum will curl up and be unusable. You can let the alcohol sit until it dries, or you can let it run a bit and dry it with a heat tool, depending on the look you want. Here, I let it run a bit and dried it with a heat tool. I adhered the sheet onto the Basic White Thick card base.
  • On regular Basic White cardstock, I stamped the tree image, the two bears, the small snowflake and the gift in Memento ink, as you see here.
  • I stamped the tree filler image in Shaded Spruce, then again, slightly offset with Pool Party, to add a bit of a snowy effect and some depth. I coloured in the outlines of the polar bears with Light Pool Party Stampin' Blends marker and the stripes on the gift with Light Tahitian Tide.
  • I stamped the scarf image on the larger bear using Tahitian Tide ink and stamped the toque on a separate piece of Basic White with Lost Lagoon ink.
  • I fussy cut the tree down to a section of ice where the bears were sitting or standing right to the edge of the paper at 4 1/4". I added this section to the card front, on top of the vellum, using dimensionals. I adhered the toque to the head of the small bear.
  • I stamped the sentiment in Memento and die cut it using the Stylish Shapes dies, modified to make a rectangle. I adhered it with Stampin' Seal.
  • I added Glitter Sequins and Wink of Stella.

Two-Tone Flora for As You See It Challenge #292 - Raindrops on Roses

two-tone flora for aysi #292 1

This week it's a Fill In the Blank Challenge over at As You See It Challenge. This one was created by Team Member Deborah and has to do with our favourite thing about spring. Here is the challenge banner:

challenge #292

To do a Fill In the Blank Challenge, you simply complete the sentence on the challenge banner by filling in the blank and then make a project to illustrate those words.

My favourite thing about spring is all the new flowers blooming and here's my card to illustrate that, using the Two-Tone Flora stamp set & dies:

To be honest, it was a toss-up between new flowers blooming or the birds returning, because I love both, but I don't have a lot of bird stamps that I like and I was dying to try out the new Two-Tone Flora stamp set along with the Fancy Flora DSP that comes in the same suite, so flowers was a no-brainer!

  • On a card base of Starry Sky cardstock, I added a layer of the Fancy Flora 6" x 6" Designer Series paper. I love the look of an oil painting texture.
  • I stamped several flowers using the two-step stamping technique. The colours I used were Petal Pink with Flirty Flamingo, Highland Heather with Starry Sky, Pool Party with Soft Succulent, and Daffodil Delight with Soft Succulent.
  • I stamped the long trailing leaves in Early Evergreen, and the smaller leaves in Soft Succulent ink.
  • I die cut all the pieces and adhered them to the card front, using glue dots for everything but the largest purple flower and one blue flower. These I used Stampin' Dimensionals for.
  • I added Festive Pearls in Pool Party to the Yellow Flowers.
  • Since I didn't purchase the Something Fancy Bundle that goes with this suite, I used the Charming Sentiments bundle to add a sentiment.
Pop on over to As You See It Challenges today to play along! You have until Feb. 22 to enter.
