April New at SU Blog Hop: Love & Laughter Forever After

new at su blog hop banner 1

Welcome to our April NEW AT SU! Blog hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with creative paper crafting ideas to share with you. Today we are using continuing products from current 2021/2022 Annual Catalogue to make Wedding/Anniversary, Graduation, Mother's or Father's Day cards. I decided to use an old favourite, Forever Fern, to make a beautiful white on white with gold highlights wedding card.

I've always loved the Forever Fern bundle but I've always used it to make green or teal foliage type cards. This time I imagined it as a wedding card with white and gold foliage with sprigs of the Layering Designs vellum tucked in as well. You'll be able to see more detail in this photo:

Using Up Scraps Quickly for As You See It Challenges

using scraps quickly for aysi 1

Of all the speed challenges I've ever done with As You See It Challenges, this one was my favourite for two reasons. First, because we got to head to our scrap bin and use up some of the bits and pieces we have lying around, and second, because I finished a full minute and ten seconds before the ten minute deadline! That never happens!!

But I have some pretty sophisticated bits and pieces in my scrap bin, that I always mean to use, but never get around to using! I'm going to have to do this more often!

Here's the Challenge Banner:

Does this look a little different to you? That's because it is and you should definitely stop by the blog just to see our new look for the new year! Everything is redesigned by Amy, one of our Design Team Members.

Here's my card again, and it will be for a dear friend with a January birthday:

  • My first step was to go to my scrap bin to see what I had so I could plan things out a bit. I found a Peony die cut all put together, die cut from Magenta Madness cardstock with a Basic Black center. This was made with the Peonies Dies. I thought this would be perfect as a focal point.
  • I also found a sentiment in black which was the perfect complement and some stamped and die cut leaves from the Forever Greenery Suite.
  • There was was a vellum Stitched Nested Label that had been embossed in gold around some of the edges and finally an older die cut in Sahara Sand from the old Foliage Frames dies.
  • Having decided what I was going to use from my scrap box, I decided on a White card base and a Gold Foil layer, so my timer started as soon as cut my paper.
  • I layered the Gold Foil and Basic White, then added the embossed vellum label using a small strip of Seal in the middle.

  • I added the peony to the Sahara Sand Foliage Frame die cut using Glue Dots then used more glue dots to attach that to the Vellum Label.
  • I used glue dots again to tuck in the bits of foliage around the flowers.
  • I used tiny dots of liquid multipurpose glue to the sentiment and glued just the middle of it to the top of the peony flower. I stopped the timer at 8:50.

Alternatives to Bear Hugs - December's Paper Pumpkin

alternatives to bear hugs 1

Last Wednesday, I showed you how to put together December's Paper Pumpkin the way the kit recommends, and I promised you that I would show you some alternative ideas for it, since I was not really thrilled with the critters that came with the kit, except for the cute koalas. So today I'm showing you the alternatives that I came up with.

Now since I needed thank you cards, I used the Massive Thanks stamp set for the sentiments, but you could continue to use the kit stamp set for the sentiments or choose your own from whatever sets you have that would fit the labels.

I also used items from the Forever Greenery Suite in the Annual Catalogue to create some designs, including the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty Paper and the Forever Fern Bundle. I also used a leftover piece of *Love You Always Foil sheets from the upcoming 2021 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue. The rest is all from the kit.

*These products are from the upcoming 2021 Jan/June Mini Catalogue and will be available to order until Jan. 5, 2021.

  • This is the version of the cards that use the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty Paper. I used the card bases and the die cut backgrounds as is, but I added a laser cut label to each one as a backing to the sentiment label from the kit.
  • I also added some *Pastel Pearls from the upcoming 2021 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue.
  • The sentiments are stamped in Rich Razzleberry ink.
*These products are from the upcoming 2021 Jan/June Mini Catalogue and will be available to order until Jan. 5, 2021.

  • These versions required the most work and are my favourites, I think. I stamped three types of foliage, from the Forever Fern stamp set in Calypso Coral, Rich Razzleberry and Crumb Cake, then die cut them plus one more shape from the *Love You Always Foil Sheet, with the Forever Flourishing dies.
  • I added the die cut foliage, plus another shape from the Forever Gold Laser Cut sheets to the card base or the background die cut shape and added the sentiment.
*These products are from the upcoming 2021 Jan/June Mini Catalogue and will be available to order until Jan. 5, 2021.

  • This last set, I used those adorable koalas to hold the round sentiment labels, with the sentiments stamped in Calypso Coral, and mounted them with dimensionals on the card base or the background die cut, adding another piece from the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty paper behind them.
  • It's worth noting that the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty paper can be used on the antique gold side or the white side.
