PJ Masks Punch Art Birthday Card

As I've said before, June is Family Birthday Month for us, and coming up soon a couple of my grandsons will be celebrating their birthdays. One, of them, Wyatt, will be turning 5 years old and one of his favourite shows to watch on TV is PJ Masks.

It's kind of Grandma's fault that he watches that show, because I wanted to send him an activity book at Easter, instead of candy, a lot of which he can't eat because he is celiac. The only good one I could find was a PJ Masks activity book and so I sent it to him, and I'm afraid he has watched the show ever since. (Sorry, daughter and son-in-law!) So I might as well compound my sins and send him a PJ Masks birthday card, too, right?

Again I looked all over Google images and Pinterest for a sample of PJ Masks in punch art, but couldn't find anything, so I had to strike out on my own again and blaze a trail.

• The three kids on PJ Masks turn into super heros called Cat Boy, Gecko and Owlette and here's what they really look like: 

• Mine are reasonable facsimiles, I think. I'll give you a character-by-character run down.
• Cat Boy uses Blueberry Bushel cardstock and Pacific Point for the lighter colour. They all use Petal Pink, sponged with Blushing Bride for the skin bits. I used the retired Owl Builder Punch for the main shape of his head (minus the feet, which I trimmed off.) I used the Fox Builder Punch shape, trimmed down for his face shape and the larger circles on the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch for his nose (again trimmed down). For the eyes, I used the 1/2" Circle Punch for the white and the two circles from the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch for the blue and the black parts. The whites were trimmed to make the characteristic shape for Cat Boy. I just used scraps of Pacific Point for the eyebrows and markings.
• For Gecko, his head is made from the 1 1/2" Circle Punch, trimmed to square off the sides a bit. The mouth area is the retired Small Oval Punch trimmed down to the right size and shape and the nose, eyes and eyebrows are as above for Cat Boy but in the different colours. Gecko is punches from Call Me Clover with the lighter areas made from Granny Apple Green cardstock.

• Owlette is made with Real Red Cardstock and a little black for the eyebrow area. Her head is the upside down, retired Owl Builder Punch of the owl's body with the feet trimmed off. The mouth is also the trimmed down Small Oval Punch and the eyes are made the same way as the others, just trimmed to a different shape and using the different colours. The wing design on her helmet is made using the Fox Tail on the Fox Builder Punch, but trimmed down quite substantially and the lower feathers are made from the fox tail cut in half and mounted together with glue dots.
• The background is made from the 3 coloured strips of paper on a black card base. I used the Happy Birthday Thinlit die for the sentiment on Whisper White backed with the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets, so I just had to remove the backing and stick it down on the card front like a sticker. The 5 is die cut using the retired Little Numbers Framelit dies on Gold Glimmer Paper, again backed with the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets.

Free Shipping Today Only & Danish Nisse Punch Art for Color Throwdown

Looking for some challenges to spur me on yesterday, I found a new colour challenge at the Color Throwdown challenge blog:

Black, red and gray immediately made me think of the Danish nisse - Christmas gnomes, so prevalent in Scandinavian holiday decor:

So, I began to formulate how I could create one using punch art! Here's how it turned out:

• The card is not layered, as the single card base really adds to the cleanness of the Scandinavian look. I just added some ink splotches along with some embossed splotches using White Stampin' Emboss Power and the stamp from Timeless Textures.
• The sentiment is from the Christmas Pines stamp set. I really liked the font from this set for this challenge.
• The foliage is from the Pretty Pines Thinlits, die cut from Whisper White, Smoky Slate and Basic Black cardstock, and bow die cut from Real Red cardstock. I also used the Martha Stewart leaf punch.
• The little nisse himself is created from the following punches and put together with Glue Dots: the Fox Builder punch for the body with the haunches trimmed off; the Holly Berry Builder punch for the bow at his neck; the 3/4" circle punch for the head; the Bow Builder* punch for the hat and stripe on the body; the 1/2" circle punch for the pompom on his hat. 
• *I punched out the long loop piece of the bow and cut it in two, one end slightly longer than the other. The longer end, I curved using the 3/4" punch. I punched a 1/2" pompom from Whisper White cardstock and glued it on the end of the hat where the square tab from the bow is at.
