Breathtaking Bouquet with Pigment Sprinkles for the March Newsletter Tutorial

Today's card looks rather spectacular and like a lot of work, but nothing could be further from the truth! It was gobs of fun, if a teensy bit messy, but fairly quick to do, if you don't count drying time.

It's based on the full-sized Breathtaking Bouquet background stamp from the Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue and emboss resist, along with the Pigment Sprinkles from the Annual Catalogue. It will be the free tutorial available to all the subscribers to my free monthly newsletter. And how can you do that? Simply add your email to the blank and hit "Go"!

CASIng the Catalogue with the So Many Stars Bundle

As my Christmas Buffet Card Class gets closer, it's always a scramble to come up with enough samples for the class. I found a sample in the catalogue that I loved for the *So Many Stars bundle, which I just got through a demo order. This is what the catalogue sample looked like:

I was so excited to try it, but I thought that the background would be too fussy for a card buffet class. I looked around to see if I could find some DSP that give the same effect. See a Silhouette came the closest, but didn't have the same colours or variety, and suddenly it hit me: I had not tried out the new Pigment Sprinkles from the Annual Catalogue yet! I knew that it would still be too fussy for the class to each make their own background, but I could use my large 9 x 12 sheets of Strathmore Watercolour paper and sprinkle them up and spritz them ahead of time, then dry them and cut them into the 4 x 5 1/4 backgrounds for them to just use in the class.

Here's how it turned out:

  • I used the Gorgeous Grape, Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo Sprinkles in different areas of the paper and then spritzed the paper with water.  I recommend taping it down as it definitely  warps when wet. I used a heat tool to dry it. A tissue came in handy to wick up any big puddles of colour that accumulate around the edges.
  • When dry, I gave the paper a good treatment with the embossing buddy. Then I stamped the little star flurry stamp all around the outside of the stamp working into the middle, using Versamark ink. I added Gold Stampin' Emboss powder and heat set. Definitely gave it a sparkly look.
  • The banner is actually the largest of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies with one end cut off. The sentiment is from the *So Many Stars stamp set stamped in Gorgeous Grape.
  • I love the star swirl die from the *Stitched Stars Dies and the cool thing is that when you die cut it you get all the little stars from it too. It's mounted at the bottom of the banner, as shown, and the extra stars are mounted with glue dots all around the bottom of the banner.
