Punch Art Elsa for As You See It Challenge #346

punch art elsa for aysi #346 1

This week, As You See It Challenges has a Fill In The Blank challenge created by yours truly, and the sentence you have to finish by filling in the blank is: The one discontinued/retired crafting tool I will never get rid of is____.

challenge #346
I have to fill in that blank with a plural, though. It's punches. Why? Because I fancy myself a punch art aficionado. At least I've done a lot of it! "Why would you do that to yourself?" you might ask, and with good reason. Well, because my grandkids love the cards I make them using punch art, and once I started, they wouldn't let me stop! Therefore, I hang onto every punch that is really useful for making things other than for what it was intended! Like the owl builder punch: it's great for making big cartoon eyes, used along with the 1/2" Circle punch. The Fox Builder punch makes wonderful tresses of hair and braids, and the Lemon Builder punch is a great base shape for faces, with a little trimming. The Vases punch makes great necks, and there are so many more! Anyway to illustrate, I CASED a card I made about 5 years ago for my youngest granddaughter. You can see it here.

And here is the redo:

  • I will never get rid of the **Fox Builder Punch because that fox tail has helped me create hair so many times and it was instrumental in me being able to make that great braid, by weaving those fox tails together, and trimming one pair down to a narrower size so that the braid tapers. Because Elsa's hair is so platinum blonde I used a combination of Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstock to create it. The very tip of the braid is one of the 3 leaves on the **Bough Punch.
  • Elsa's head shape was closest to and big enough for the **Lemon Builder Punch with the wider bump at the top and the narrower one at the chin. I also trimmed off the "jowls" a bit. Lol!
  • The nose is what's punched out when you punch the hole for the Detailed Trio Punch. The mouth is created using two punches with the **Lemon Builder Punch at the "chin end".
  • The eyes needed shaping and are time consuming but they are started in Whisper White with the 1/2" punch and shaped exactly alike, one used to trace the other. Her neck is one of the vases from the **Vases Builder Punch and her shoulders and upper chest is the **Story Label Punch, in Powder Pink.
  • Her dress is made from Pastel Ombre Glimmer Paper. The shoulders and front are an arc double punched with the Story Label punch. Her arms attach underneath and are also punched from Pastel Ombre Glimmer Paper with the **Word Window Punch - which is another I will never give up, just for this purpose.

My Biggest Halloween Fear for As You See It Challenge #286

my biggest halloween fear for aysi #286 1

As spooky as Halloween can be, I usually have only one fear on Halloween night...I have a black cat named Beetle and I'm always worried that she'll get out when kids come to the door and that some evil cult will get a hold of her and use her for nefarious purposes! Now I know the likelihood of that is pretty slim, but every Halloween, I hear those same warnings about being careful with your cats and I can't help but worry! That's why, when As You See It Challenges came up with this Fill In The Blank Challenge, it was the first thing I thought of to fill in the blank:

challenge #286

"For me, the spookiest thing on Halloween is always worrying about keeping my black cat safe!"

It worked for me, too, because my Halloween stash is pretty limited! As it was, I had to use a retired punch for my cat. And a Paper Pumpkin stamp for my sentiment, as I didn't have either in my current product stash. But I love how it turned out!

my biggest halloween fear for AYSI #286 2

  • I found some perfect background DSP in my pack of Celebrate Everything DSP, which is a Host Reward from the July/Dec. Mini Catalogue! It has come in handy several times now. I backed it with Parakeet Party and mounted it on a Basic Black card base.
  • Using the Rustic Pumpkin Dies, I die cut a pumpkin, stalk and vines (saving some of the negative pieces from the vines for ghost and cat eyes).
  • I used sponge daubers to sponge Pumpkin Pie ink around and over the pumpkin pieces to give them definition, and Garden Green for the stalk and vines. Then I assemble the pumpkin.
  • I punched the cat out of Basic Black using the cat punch and added the two Parakeet Party eyes using Tombo glue.
  • Using the Tulip Builder Punch, I punched a tulip bloom from Basic White and turned it upside down. After added the eyes, I added my ghost to the back of the pumpkin. I added dimensionals to all and adhered to the card front.
  • I embossed the sentiment in black onto Parakeet Party, then die cut using a die from the Stylish Shapes dies. I added it using dimensionals.

Ninjago Punch Art for My Grandson

ninjango punch art for my grandson 1

Kids! Their interests vary from year to year. I guess that's a good thing for a card maker. You never run out of different ideas to try. This month is my grandson Kesten's birthday! I can't believe he's going to be 10 already! He is apparently really interested in Ninjago lego videos so that's what I decided to recreate with punch art.  This is Kesten:

kesten

He's a speed skater, soccer player and mountain bike rider!

And here is the Ninjago picture I was using as my model:

ninjago

You can totally see the resemblance right? Haha! I knew nothing about Ninjago before I started. Now I know that these three characters are called (l. to r.) Zane, Lloyd and Nya. And I know that this image is from Season 11 Episode 13. And that Lloyd is kind of a heart throb and Nya has anger issues. Zane apparently has powers over ice and Nya over water. Not sure about Lloyd. But they are all obviously ninjas.

Consider yourself partially educated.

The punches I used to make these characters included:

Label Me Lovely Punch, Jar Punch, Tulip Builder Punch.

The retired punches I used were the Classic Label Punch, the Word Window Punch, the Fox Builder Punch, the Detailed Trio Punch, and the Story Label Punch.

The colours I used were: Silver Foil, Daffodil Delight, So Saffron, Sahara Sand and Very Vanilla, Garden Green, Evening Evergreen, Balmy Blue and Pool Party, Early Espresso, Soft Suede, Basic Gray, Basic White as well as Pacific Point.

Anyway, I hope you like the design, and I hope my grandson does, too!
