Rose Wonder and One Day Craft Crop to Aid Refugees

Saturday was the One Day Craft Crop to Aid Refugees that I have been planning for several weeks. We did most of the set up on Friday night so that we were already to go at 9:00 am and people started arriving around 8:45 am. The day was beautiful which meant that we had lots of natural light in the church lobby and there's was lots of room for all 29 participants. There were a lot of scrapbookers and an equal number of card makers and we had a few other interesting crafts as well!

My friend, Janice and her crew cooked up some amazing meals, and our pastor's wife, Nikki, came in twice on her day off just to run our specialty coffee bar for a couple of hours! We had lots of muscles, male and female, helping with the set up and take down and hauling my equipment back and forth, including my dear hubby, Ken! I'll share a few photos of the day in a bit, but first I wanted to share one card that I made at the retreat.

Because I was hosting, I didn't have a lot of time to craft, but I did get some things done and one of my main goals was to make a birthday card for my friend, Lorraine, who was helping me all week with the preparations for the event! Her birthday was over two weeks ago, so it was long overdue, but we both had been travelling, and working on this event, so this was the first opportunity! I used the rose stamp from the set, Rose Wonder and enjoyed myself with the Watercolour Pencils and Blender Pens!

  • The first step was to stamp the image in Versamark ink on Whisper White paper and heat emboss it using White Stampin' Emboss Powder. That gives you a nice boundary for all the areas you will be colouring in with the Watercolour Pencils. It also gives a nice, soft look to the finished image.
  • I used the Rich Razzleberry Watercolour pencil to colour at the base of each petal where it joins the flower or where it emerges from under another petal. That changed toward the center, as it looked to me as if the petals stopped curling outward, and stood upright to form the tighter core of the rose. The Blender Pen is used lightly to blend that colour toward the center of the petal.
  • Then I used the Melon Mambo Watercolour pencil to add a thin line of colour at the outer edge of each petal and next to the Rich Razzleberry. Again, the Blender Pen was used to draw the colour to the center of the petal from both top and bottom.
  • For the leaf, I used Old Olive and Daffodil Delight in the same way.
  • The sentiment is from Rose Wonder and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry ink, and outlined with the image from the Rose Wonder set stamped in Garden Green. The Rose Garden Thinlit Dies have a die to cut that exact shape. It's hard to catch the background paper of the card in this photo, but it is a card base of Rich Razzleberry and a backing of Garden Green.

Only 3 more sleeps until the new Annual Catalogue comes out and the old Annual Catalogue and the 2017 Occasions Catalogue are history! Make sure you get your orders in before it's too late. I am putting in an order today which will likely be my last one for the retiring products so message me with your order before 7 pm.

Floral Boutique for As You See It Challenges

It seems like the last two weeks have flown by, but then it's been really busy! I've been preparing to head to Calgary for Stampin' Up!'s OnStage Local presentation and will be on my way later this morning! It's so exciting, and I will tell you more about that later, but right now the business at hand is As You See It Challenge's latest Challenge #147, which is a sketch challenge from Amanda. It is a sketch that intrigues me because... well, I'll let you take a look and you can let me know if you think it's intriguing as well:

I don't think I've ever run across a sketch quite like this one! I'm really curious to see what everyone will do with the background design. Lack of time made me a little less imaginative, so I resorted to Designer Series Paper - Floral Boutique Series to be exact, and I went with a crisp palette of Night of Navy and Whisper White, with a little silver thrown in.

  • The matte for the Floral Boutique DSP is actually the silver side of one of the designs of the Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate. That's where the silver element comes in. I wish you could see more. Next time, I might have cut the Floral Boutique strip a little narrower to let it show more.
  • The sentiment, stamped in Night of Navy is from the Rose Wonder Stamp Set.
  • I die cut the rose outline using the Rose Garden Thinlits from Night of Navy cardstock. I mounted it on a Lace Doily (on the Whisper White side) which was, in turn, adhered to a scallop circle die cut using a framelit from the Layering Circles Framelits. I experimented embedding the little pieces left over after the die cut ( I believe they are called the chits), both the Night of Navy pieces and also some Whisper White pieces left over when I used the thinlit to do the same die cut in Whisper White. I also tried a combination of the two. But in the end, it just looked better with the simple rose outline in navy with the doily underneath.
  • The little white bow is tied using the 1/8" white grosgrain ribbon from the Sending Love Ribbon Combo Pack.

I want to let you know that while I am in Calgary this weekend, I will be viewing the 2017/18 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue for the first time! How awesome is that? I will also be able to order from a selected assortment of products and start to produce samples to show you, so within a week or so you will be able to see some of the wonders from the new catty, as well as the new In Colours. In another 2 - 3 weeks, the Retiring List should be out for the current catalogues, so you  will know what will be going for good to make room for the new! You'll definitely be wanting to keep your eyes on this space for the next month or so!! By next Wednesday, I'll have some pictures for you!
