Leftovers Again???!!!

When my kids were still at home, I would often try to use left-overs from roasts and chickens and pasta meals for subsequent meals, but I could only get away with it on a limited basis before the cry would arise, "Leftovers again??!!!" followed by a groan of gargantuan proportions! But it was a real money saver to be thrifty with our food, and well worth the effort and the complaints!

Right now, you may have bits and pieces of left-over DSP and cardstock and they just sit there and never get used and the pile just builds. It doesn't have to be that way. In fact, if you purposefully look at using them up you can create all kinds of useful and beautiful things.

I always have a need for Thank You cards, as I try to include one with every order I deliver. I used to create 3 x 3 cards, but have since started using our Note Cards & Envelopes for the job, and that is what I've used as the card base here:

  • I dug out what was left of the retiring In Colours, so these are colours you can't buy any more, but perhaps you have some leftovers, too! In this case, I used Crisp Cantaloupe and Coastal Cabana as the background panel.
  • I had only a small amount of the Something Borrowed left over from the Occasions Catalogue. Again it is retired and you can't order it anymore, but I'll bet you have some of it in your craft room, and if you have small pieces, this is the ideal project for them.  You can copy this design with any colour cardstock and matching DSP you want, really.
  • I used one new item and that is the Triple Banner Punch to make the flagged ends in the banners.  I tried out the two biggest widths on the punch 2" and 1 1/2" for these banners.
  • Finally, I used up some old embellishments, the Rosette Trim from the Artisan Embellishment kit in the Occasions Catalogue and the Something Borrowed Embellishments. You can no longer order these either, but this is a good way to use up your leftovers!
  • I stamped the greeting from the Petite Pairs Stamp Set in Sahara Sand ink.

Here's a piece of good news! If you join my team in June you will get your choice of two free stamp sets in your Starter Kit! That's on top of the already great deal you get when you join Stampin' Up! as a demonstrator! Normally, you get $155 worth of any current product you want for only $125, but with this promotion, you can add on up to $120 depending which stamp sets you chose. (A few stamp sets in the Annual Catalogue are worth $60 or more!)

"Why would I want to join Stampin' Up!?" you ask.
And my reply is, "Why would you NOT want to join Stampin' Up!?"

You can sign up again at any time with the same up line, and if you are a dropped demonstrator, we welcome you back! In fact this is a pretty great deal to get back in!

Summer Silhouettes for The Paper Players

April and May are anniversary months around here. Two of my daughters were married during those months and my hubby and I celebrate our anniversary on May 6 (in 1978 - so our anniversary is 5/6/78! - and we didn't plan that on purpose!) So you can understand why I'm making so many anniversary cards lately. This one is for my middle daughter and her husband and she LOVES dandelions - so I got out my Summer Silhouettes Stamp set and used the sketch from The Paper Players Challenge #242 for the layout:

Just to give you an idea about how my daughter loves dandelions, look at the dress she designed for her daughter, our only granddaughter:

And here's a picture of my daughter on her wedding day. Take a good look at the bouquet, because she sneaked a dandelion into it, because I had objected when she wanted a bouquet full of them!!

So in honour of that memory, here is her and her husband's anniversary card:

  • I'm sorry, but I love the Something Borrowed DSP so much, I have to use it as much as possible before it retires. Both pieces of background Design Series Paper are from that set. I wish Stampin' Up! would break precedent and bring back this series in the Annual Catalogue, which is coming out June 2, 2015! It's just so pretty!
  • I stamped the images in Sahara Sand and Crisp Cantaloupe and die cut them and a matte of Crisp Cantaloupe using the Ovals Collection Framelits. The flags are made from Sahara Sand cardstock, Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock and Whisper White cardstock stamped with another image from Summer Silhouettes.
  • I added some small Rhinestone Basic Jewels and a little bow made from Crisp Cantaloupe Thick Baker's Twine (retiring) and that's all there is to this simple card!
News from Stampin' Up!

The premiere of the new 2015/16 Annual Catalogue is getting very close. We're just over a month away from it going live! I know, after seeing the retiring list, that I'm very excited and curious about all the new products we'll get to see and purchase!
Become a Demonstrator for the Sneak Peek!

As a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, one of the best perks is being able to view the new catalogues a month ahead of the public, and being able to preorder products during that month! If you want in on this privilege then all you have to do is join my team and order the Starter Kit in the next few days! It's only $125 with free shipping, and you can choose $155 worth of any current product! You might want to wait until May 5 or later, so you can order new sneak peek products in your Starter Kit!

Want a New Catalogue?

We will be able to ship catalogues to our customers starting May 7th or so. If you are a member of my stamp club, or an active customer, I will be mailing one to you for free, automatically. If you are not an active customer but would still like to receive a free copy, simply place an order for $50 or more before May 12th and I will see that you get a copy. Please make sure I have your mailing address for that purpose.

Price Changes

Stampin' Up! also announced yesterday, that there will be some price changes with the new Annual Catalogue. Stamp pads, refills and cardstock prices haven't changed since 2009, but prices will increase slightly starting June 3. There will be a larger increase for Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstock. As well, the Big Shot and its cutting and crease pads will also see an increase, due to the manufacturer's increased prices.  And due to increased costs, background stamps will see a slight increase. This might be a good time to stock up on paper and ink, as well as to purchase a Big Shot if you haven't already.

The good news is that there will also be some price decreases on several products including several punches, Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, and various tools, trims, and embellishments. So everything should even itself out!
One Day Overlap on June 2, 2015

There is an overlap of 1 day on June 2, where the old 2014/15 catalogue products and 2015 Occasions catalogue products can still be ordered at the old prices, as well as being able to order from the new 2015/16 Annual Catalogue. Where the same product is in both catalogues, on June 2 only, it will be available at the 2014/15 price. After that it all changes to 2015/16 prices.

Stippled Blossoms Mother's Day Card

Mother's Day is coming up in about a month and you're going to need a card for that special lady! In the next couple of weeks I'm going to show you some different designs in the hopes that one of them will be just right for your mom. This card is just right for the mom who loves vintage, pastel and delicate. It features the Stippled Blossoms stamp set and the Something Borrowed Designer Series Paper.

This is the Mojo Monday Sketch for Challenge #393. I was intrigued by the unique shape in the middle and I had to try it out. Although it looks too modern for a vintage looking card, using a pastel cardstock like Crisp Cantaloupe made it work.

  • The Stippled Blossoms Stamp Set was used to create the flowers on the center circle panel. This is a Two Step Stamping set and the Stamp-a-ma-jig was needed to get the second step located accurately and also to get the leaves and the two roses placed correctly. If you are unsure as to how to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig, click on this link to take you to one of my video tutorials on just that topic. I even used the same stamp set for the video.
  • You'll notice that one flower overlaps the other and both overlap the leaves. This is done by using a masking technique. I stamped the solid image from the set on a sheet of Post It Notes, then pulled off 2 sheets and cut out the image, making sure to leave some of the sticky adhesive at the top. That gave me two masks. I stamped the Crisp Cantaloupe image and then used one of the masks and lined it up with the rose. I stamped the Sahara Sand rose. Part of the image overlapped the Crisp Cantaloupe flower, but the mask took the ink and left the Cantaloupe rose intact. It looked as though the Sahara Sand flower was beneath it. I used the other mask to cover up the the Sahara Sand rose and stamped the leaves where I wanted them
  • The background DSP is from the Something Borrowed collection and the smaller doily is from the Artisan Embellishment kit. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and punched using the Word Window Punch.
  • The circles for the main image were die cut using two Circles Collection framelits. The smaller was used to cut the image and the next larger to cut the Crisp Cantaloupe matte. I glued them together, but used my paper snips to trim down the Cantaloupe circle so that it was just a narrow margin around the stamped image.
