Handwritten Sunshine Wishes with Itty Bitty Greetings

Along with all the birthday celebrations that I've been attending, we had an engagement party to go to this past weekend. I don't very often get to design an engagement card so this was fun to work on. I used three new products, one continuing product that I love and three retired products! See if you can guess what they are before you scroll down much further.

  • One of the new products is a new background stamp called Handwritten, which is a script stamp. I used a couple of techniques with it. One I like to call the Background Whisper Technique. I leave the background stamp face up on the work surface and ink it up, here with the returning Mint Macaron. I placed my watercolour paper on the surface of the stamp very gently and then press lightly in the areas I want the background images to appear in. The other areas get only a very light image or none at all.
  • I then used a fairly wet Aqua Painter, or paint brush, while the ink was still fresh, to spread the ink around and make it bleed around the paper to form a watercolour background. I dried that layer, then added a little more ink, this time Bermuda Bay ink, over top of the previous background, again with the Aqua Painter and dried it with the Heat Tool.
  • I die cut two hearts using the Sunshine Wishes Thinlit Dies, one from retired Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and one from Silver Foil sheets, from which I also die cut the word Congrats from the same die set. The Glimmer paper and the Silver Foil had been mounted on Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets before being die cut, turning them into easily adhered stickers, simply by removing the backing. The sentiment, Congrats, had the same treatment.

  • The "You're Engaged" sentiment is from the new Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set, which fills the gap for the newly retired Teeny Tiny Wishes, in case you're missing it. The sentiments are still tiny, but they are a little more up-to-date. It was stamped in Mint Macaron, punched with the old retired Word Window punch (which I refuse to let go of) and mounted on a backing made by the Classic Label Punch using Silver Foil.
  • A little bow made from some retired Shimmer Ribbon in Bermuda Bay, from the Occasions Catalogue, and some Tranquil Tide coloured pearls from the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls provided the finishing touches.
I'm Offering Product Shares

I am offering Ribbon and Paper Shares for this term of the new Annual Catalogue. It's so hard to get enough variety of DSP and Ribbon, especially when the prices have made a jump! But if you were to share a variety of Paper and/or Ribbon with 3 other people and divide the cost between you, it starts to look affordable! To see what I am offering check out this link.

Brusho Butterflies for As You See It Challenge

Just a quick post for today, because the Syrian refugee family that we have been raising money for in the past two years, is finally arriving so we will be at the airport to greet them and I must get all my posting done before we leave! So excited to finally meet them in person!

It's time for a new As You See It Challenge, and this time Amanda has created quite the sketch challenge for us! I confess I was stumped as to what to do with it at first. Take a look:

What do you see there? After staring at it for quite some time, I decided I could see a butterfly, intersecting with a flower, intersecting with another butterfly. When I considered the colours that I would use, I found The Paper Players latest colour challenge:

As two of those colours are now retired Stampin' Up! ink colours that I no longer have, I decided I could do this colour challenge with reasonable facsimiles using Brusho Crystal Colours.

Here's what happened:

  • I took a piece of Strathmore cold press 140 lb watercolour paper and, after taping it down to prevent warping, I sprinkled the Brusho Crystal Colour on it, first Brilliant Red, then Gamboge, then Yellow and finally, Moss Green. I was quite sparing with the amount of each colour I sprinkled. Using the spritzer, I carefully added water, enough to get the colours mixing, but not so much that I didn't still have some of the grainy texture left by the undissolved crystals.
  • I dried the paper using my heat tool, because that adds to the texture and interest as well.
  • Two butterflies were die cut using the Butterflies thinlits which are retiring and have already sold out unfortunately. One I cut from the red/orange section and one from the yellow/green section.
  • I also used the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits to die cut the middle flower from the orange/yellow section of my watercoloured paper. I actually die cut two of the flower and cut off the stems, to join them to make one large flower.
  • The sentiment is from A Good Day stamp set. I punched out the middle sentiment with the 1" Circle Punch and made two backings for it. One was punched with a 1 1/8" Scallop Circle Punch from Crushed Curry cardstock and one was punched with the 1 3/8" Scallop Circle Punch from Wild Wasabi cardstock.

  •  Wink of Stella added a bit of glimmer to each piece, although that is hard to see in a photograph and the Glitter Enamel Dots helped to accent the butterflies and the flower center.
That's it for today's post! Don't forget to get your orders in for any last minute items from both the 2017/18 Annual Catalogue or the 2018 Occasions Catalogue, so you don't miss out. Thirteen days left!! Stock up on bundles and paper basics as you will pay more for them in the new Annual Catalogue!

Have a great weekend!
