Vintage Leaves Thank Yous

We decided to leave a couple of days early to visit my daughter and her family up north, and so that meant a bit of scrambling to get everything ready in time! And, of course, a huge order came in just a couple of days away from departure date! That needed sorting and thank you cards written up for customers so I had to make some cards pronto! I got out an old favourite stamp set, Vintage Leaves to help me with the task, along with a package of Whisper White Notecards and Envelopes.

The Notecards & Envelopes are just the right size for a batch of thank yous. They are 3 1/2" x 5" which is not such a large area to fill, but you can still use a sizeable sentiment on them and it looks good. I got out my go-to thank you sentiment set: One Big Meaning and got busy.

  • I used a 3 1/4" x 4 3/4" panel on the front of each card and stamped it with three of the leaf images in the Vintage Leaves set. I stuck to warm fall colours such as Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Pumpkin Pie for the leaves and Early Espresso for the sentiments.
  • I stamped off all the leaves at least once (twice for the Cajun Craze) before stamping them so they wouldn't overpower the card. That way, too, the sentiments which are both very large, could be stamped over the images and not be lost with the leaves have too intense a colour.
  • Some Regal Enamel Shapes added a few finishing touches.

Last weekend for this sale. Grab a couple of friends and share the cost and the paper to make it worth your while!!

Steampunk Leaflets for The Paper Players

I get the urge to do some steampunk work at the oddest times. Like for a clean-and-simple challenge such as the one over at The Paper Players this week. Everyone knows that Steampunk is the antithesis of Clean-and-Simple, right? Nevertheless, I had a hankering to play with gears and copper and I had this vision of adding them to a maple leaf for some reason. So, keeping in mind that this might be the first step in a long slide toward a complete breakdown, I kind of like how it turned out. You could let me know what you think, to reassure me that I'm still somewhat in control or to send me on a quest for help!

Here's the Challenge banner from The Paper Players:

All the leaves around my house are getting very coppery, and will all be on the ground very soon! I'm thinking we are all wishing they had wheels and gears and could clean themselves up to save us from raking! Take a closer look at my invention here:

  • There is a lot of Copper Foil Sheet in this card and it just happens to be backordered right now, but there should be another shipment of it coming in today, so if you want to try something like this, you're in luck! I die cut the maple leaf from it using the Leaflet Framelits and the gears were die cut using a memory box die I've had for a while called Deluxe Gear Set.
  • I also stamped a coordinating maple leaf using the Vintage Leaves stamp set in Versamark Ink and embossed it using Copper Embossing Powder, which happens to be in low inventory right now so should be ordered right away if you need it. I used the same Leaflet Framelits to die cut it, and tucked it behind the Copper Foil leaf, just offset a little. This was added to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals after adding the largest of the gears with a glue dot.
  • The other gears were added as shown in the photo above using glue dots or dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from the Wetlands stamp set, stamped in Cajun Craze ink.
So what do you think? Does it work? Can you have a steampunk, clean-and-simple leaf?

Thanksgiving with Vintage Leaves and Paisleys

I don't really send Thanksgiving cards, but it's a nice idea. I do send or give thank you cards, however, and this one could be used for both. It has a background of paper from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper collection and the sentiment is from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set. I used the leaf stamped from the Vintage Leaves stamp set and die cut with the Leaflets Framelits dies and another couple die cut from the same framelit set.

  • The colour palette is taken from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper: Delightful Dijon, Cajun Craze, Rich Razzleberry, Soft Suede, Copper and Very Vanilla. These are all rich, warm, fall shades and can be a bit overpowering if you're not careful.
  • The leaves that are just die cut and not stamped have been worked with the bone folder to weaken and separate the fibres so that the layers of the cardstock could be peeled apart. This gives a suede-like texture to the leaves and allows you to scrunch them easily and have the wrinkles remain. I then added some random Versamark Ink and some Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set it. It set REALLY quickly on this thinner paper, but it definitely gave the appearance of weathered leaves.
  • The Delightful Dijon leaf was stamped with an image from Vintage Leaves and embossed with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder, then die cut with the coordinating image from the Leaflet frameits.
  • The sentiment is from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set and die cut with the framelit from the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelit Dies. I recut it to make it shorter, then die cut a regular length from Soft Suede cardstock for a backing. The ribbon behind it is from the 3/8" Ribbon Trio Pack in the Holiday Catalogue. It coordinates with the Petals & Paisleys Suite of products.

It's the last day to get in on these awesome savings on cardmaking basics!

And you're running out of time to get in on this promotion! Only on until October 10th!
