Sailing Home 70th Birthday Card

Yesterday was my hubby's 70th birthday! It was very sad. We had a big party planned. All our girls and grandkids were coming and we had rented a facility to throw a fun dinner for family and friends. And then COVID-19 happened and we had to cancel that. And the kids couldn't come. And I'm isolating and couldn't even cook him a nice meal and bake him a cake, because I still had 2 days to go. We ended up ordering in a meal from Skip the Dishes to support a local restaurant that we both like. It's closed to patrons in the restaurant, but can still make food for delivery.

This is the old guy back in his heyday, not long after we first met, 44 years ago:

Not bad, eh? He hasn't changed all that much! ;)

But at least I could still make him a card! (I wore gloves and a mask!)

I used the Sailing Home stamp set along with Smooth Sailing and Under the Sea Dies.

  • Two different designs from the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper are used on the card base. My hubby said he wanted a Nautical design for a birthday card this year, and I was excited because it was so long ago that I last used these great nautical themed papers.
  • I stamped the lighthouse in Basic Gray ink and the anchor in Gray Granite and die cut them from the Whisper White cardstock with the Smooth Sailing coordinating dies.
  • The Congrats was embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder on Night of Navy cardstock and die cut with the banner die from the Smooth Sailing Dies. From the same piece of Night of Navy, I die cut the ship's wheel and added a retired **mini brad I still had.
  • The fish net and the seaweed were die cut from the Under the Water dies and the Smooth Sailing dies respectively. The word 'happy' was die cut from Silver Foil using the Well Written dies. The numbers are from an old set called the **Little Numbers thinlits.
  • The last and bottom sentiment is from the Sailing Home stamp set.

Perennial Essence Makes a Quick & Easy Card

This is the first of two blog posts today, as I'm participating in an international blog hop this afternoon with Kylie Bertucci's Demonstrator Training Team. You can look for that post around 2 pm. PDT. But this morning, I wanted to demonstrate the way that the Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper, paired with the Floral Essence stamp set and the Well Written Dies, can make a quick and easy birthday card that looks like you graduated from art school!

Of course, it's all due to the DSP, because it's so beautiful! It looks like an impressionist painting, and the colours are rich and vibrant! But the new Floral Essence photopolymer stamp set that is designed to go with it, enhances the effect. Here's a closer look:

  • I used Blackberry Bliss as the card base and adhered a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of the Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper on it as the background.
  • Using the Stamparatus, I stamped the three flowers: the outline one and larger solid flower in Blackberry Bliss and the smaller solid one in Blueberry Bushel, all from the Floral Essence set.
  • I have to make mention here of the new Stamp Cleaning Pad in this Annual Catalogue. It works like a dream. It's miraculous. Imagine in the past, when you used Blackberry Bliss on a photopolymer stamp. It was instant stain of a deep purply red that would never come out. But I used the new Stamp Cleaning pad on them for the first time and was amazed at the amount of stain it got out. There was a slight pink tinge left, but hardly anything. You've got to try it if the staining of your photopolymers bothers you at all.
  • I coordinated the flower center stamps onto the appropriate flowers and picked them up with the Stamparatus flap, them used Daffodil Delight and Petal Pink to stamp them. I also stamped the two leaf stamps in Mossy Meadow and coloured them in with the Old Olive Stampin' Blends Combo. Then everything had to be fussy cut out.
  • I used the birthday and wishes dies from the Well Written dies set and die cut those words from Sparkle Glimmer Paper. You can either use glue to adhere them on your project, or use Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to turn them into stickers, however, Stampin' Up! no longer sells those as part of its adhesive line.
  • The three flowers and the leaves are grouped at the top left of the card and glue, glue dots and dimensionals are used to adhere them to the front.
  • The two words are die cut and glued to the front of the card as shown. Then you add Gold and Clear Faceted Gems to the centers of the flowers to finish off.
And that's it! Easy peasy! And you have a gorgeous card without a ton of effort!

And speaking of beautiful Designer Series paper, you can get your hands on more variety of it for less money by participating in one of my paper shares. You do that by basically sharing packs with other people, but I coordinate that for you. You just need to sign up, then pay for it, and I will deliver to you part packages of a variety of DSP packs in the catalogue. There are several options to choose from.
