Traveller for As You See It Challenges

Happy Good Friday! Probably a lot of you are travelling this weekend to visit family. So this card is in honour of you! When I saw the sketch for As You See It Challenges this week, I immediately thought vintage design. And I've been consciously looking for an opportunity to use my Traveler Stamp Set again as it has been forever since I last got it out, so this was the perfect time!

I am not travelling this weekend. My daughter and family will be coming here to spend some time, and I am doing something I haven't done in over a year - a drama presentation! I was asked to organize one for our new church for the Easter service so we've been working hard at rehearsals over the last month and a half. I'm a little nervous, but I'm sure it will go fine.

Here's the As You See It Challenge #081 sketch:

Doesn't that say vintage to you? Anyway, here is my Design Team card:

  • Does it look like the label die cut with the suitcase on it is really popped up on Dimensionals? Actually, it is glued down flat but it is backed with the same size and shape label (cut from the Labels Collection Framelits) in Soft Suede cardstock and the backing is offset to the bottom right so that it looks like a shadow and gives the appearance of height. As I mentioned, the image is from the stamp set, Traveler, a great one for vintage style cards.
  • The background DSP is from Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper, perfect for a vintage look. Everything is sponged around the edges with Soft Suede ink using a Stamping Sponge.
  • I used the World of Dreams stamp set for the foliage in the background. I love those silhouette images that add the delicate design touch.
  • The sentiment was stamped using the Rotary Alphabet stamp, as I couldn't find one that said, "Bon Voyage".  It was just barely big enough for the Modern Label punch and I backed it with another of the same size, punched from Soft Suede cardstock and cut in half and glued on either end of the sentiment panel.
  • Don't you love my little cherub? He was another of the findings given to me by my customers in OK Falls. He looks like he is pulling both the suitcase panel and the sentiment along to the destination! Handy!
I hope you'll consider playing along with this great sketch and finding a little time over this Easter Weekend to do a little crafting!  Happy Easter and see you Monday!

Peek-A-Boo Card Featured at Technique Nights

One of the techniques that I learned how to do at my retreat weekend was the Peek-A-Boo card technique, thanks to the talents of my friend, Amy Jasper! It was such fun to put together and almost magic the way it works. And it features my current favourite DSP, Something Borrowed along with Crisp Cantaloupe accents! (Whatever will I do when Crisp Cantaloupe retires? I can't even...)

Take a look at how it works:

Isn't that awesome? Do you want to know how to make one? Sign up for my classes this week, Technique Nights 1 and 2 on Wednesday and Thursday, and we'll all put one together! Your card recipients will think you're an absolute genius! Once you know the measurements and mechanism, you can make up dozens of designs on your own!

Because Technique Nights fall on April 1 and 2, April Fool's Day, the theme for the classes is Tricky Techniques such as this one, multicoloured embossing, and a splattered cut-out frame that I'll show you Wednesday. Do sign up by tomorrow as I am preparing the packages for the attendees then.

All good things must come to an end! And one of those good things is Sale-A-Bration!

Sale-A-Bration this year has been amazing and, unfortunately, it ends today! I loved the rewards Stampin' Up! offered those who purchased $60 or more in one order. If there was something you wanted to get, there is still a little time. I will be putting in an order tonight at 5 pm. Message me with what you want before then and you'll be able to slip in under the wire!

If you want to sign up and become a demonstrator on my team, you can still do that and earn two Sale-A-Bration rewards for doing that as well (or choose one Simply Created kit from the Occasions catalogue). Again, message me or simply go to the Join My Team button and follow the prompts. To join Stampin' Up! it only costs $125 and you get a custom starter kit of $155 worth of your choice of any current catalogue products with no shipping charges! Even if you choose to do nothing more than order the kit, you will get 3 months worth of 20% discounts on all the products, an early look at the new Annual Catalogue and a chance to pre-order from it a whole month ahead of the public, and access to great stamping community sites such as Stampin' Connection. You don't have to carry an inventory and I will help you every step of the journey to run your business your way.

Oh, yeah, it's Tuesday!

In Colour Palette for The Paper Players

Once a month, I do a card class for a group of amazing crafters in a little town about 60 kilometers south of where I live. (That's about 40 miles for my American readers.)  I love doing this class even when it means getting up really early (remember, I'm a night owl)!  The ladies in the class are warm, genuine and they love to craft!  We meet in a local coffee shop and the paper and ink fly for about two and a half hours, along with laughter and great conversation.  And the coffee shop makes amazing chai lattes and clubhouse sandwiches.

This is one of the cards I designed for the class, based on a Pinterest pin one of the members sent me. I changed the colours and some of the stamps but the layout is basically the same.  I'm hoping it's a hit.

It suits the criteria for The Paper Players' Challenge #217:

It's interesting that this challenge, hosted by Ann Schach, uses 3 of the 5 new Stampin' Up! In Colours this year:  Hello Honey, Mossy Meadow and Tangelo Twist.  Here's my take on the colour challenge:

  • The card base is Mossy Meadow. It's such a rich green colour. I also used Mossy Meadow ink on the sentiment, from the And Many More stamp set.
  • The background on the oval consists of two images from the World of Dreams stamp set.  The grass was stamped in Crumb Cake ink and then the flower stalks were stamped in VersaMark and Gold Stampin' Emboss powder was added and heat set.  Too bad the photo doesn't show the shiny images.
  • The flower images, all from the Flower Shop stamp set were stamped in Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist and the middle one was stamped in VersaMark ink and embossed with the gold embossing powder.  They were all punched out with the .Pansy Punch  It can be hard to line up these images with the punch, but once you figure it out, mark the bottom right on the wood block or maybe on the label for your clear mount choices, so you won't have to puzzle over it the next time you use it.
  • I just love the Stitched Satin Ribbons.  They add an elegant touch to the overall effect.
