Cheers & Sips for As You See It Challenge #353 - Recipe for the Gala

cheers & sips for aysi #353 1

It's a Recipe Challenge over at As You See It Challenges this week and the theme is Recipe for the Gala, so elegance and black tie occasions are what we're looking for. And nothing says elegance like black and white, especially if you throw in a little gold with it. Am I right? Since I created the challenge, you're going to have to take my word for it. Take a look at our Challenge Banner:

challenge #353

I got out the Cheers & Sips set for something a little different. I figure that most galas feature some Cheers and Sips sometime during the evening by way of celebrating the occasion! I kept my drinks clear so as not to compromise the black & white elegance of the theme and even though I attempted to stamp on the Gold foil paper, I needed a more permanent ink for that to hold. So I left them die cuts. Here's a close up:

  • On a Basic Black card base, a Basic White layer was added, embossed using the Softly Sophisticated 3D embossing folder.
  • The images of the glasses and the ice cubes were stamped on Basic White with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and die cut with the Cheers & Sips dies.
  • The swizzle stick and olive were die cut from Basic Black cardstock and the cocktail umbrella and orange slice were die cut from Brushed Metallic Gold Foil.
  • I used a ruler and the bullet tip of the Basic Black Dark Stamping Blends Marker to draw the liquid level across each glass.
  • The sentiment was embossed in gold on a banner die cut with the Stylish Shapes dies.
  • The glasses, when assembled, were mounted on the card front on a section of retired Navy Blue Gold Glittered Ribbon.
  • A selection of black and regular rhinestones were added.

Hearts and Hugs for As You See It Challenge #347

hugs & hearts for aysi #347

I just love doing Recipe challenges! They are so much fun! It's like a chopped challenge on a food network. Everyone has the same ingredients to work with, but the final products turn out differently for everyone! I had to rely on some retired products to complete my Recipe challenge this time, because I didn't have any new animal stamp sets. So I got out my Hearts & Hugs bundle which, as of writing this post, is still available on the Last Chance list. Here's the Challenge Banner:

challenge #347

Here's how I put all my elements together:

  • This is a gate fold card. I used a Crumb Cake card base of 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 2 1/8" on both ends of the long side to get the gate fold.
  • In about the middle of each "gate side" I added an 8" piece of Baker's Twine, glued down and covered with the additions below:
  • I covered the outside "gates" with Pretty Peacock cardstock cut at 1 7/8" x 5 1/4", then on top of that added some of the Perennial Lavender DSP (which is carrying over into the new Annual Catalogue, by the way) cut at 1 5/8" x 5".
  • In the center of the card I added another piece of the Perennial Lavender DSP, with a gingham design, cut at 5 1/4" x 4".
  • I stamped the mouse and the hamster (?) with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Basic White cardstock and coloured them in with Stampin' Blends Markers. I used Gray Granite, Copper Clay and Peach Pie, and Poppy Parade.
  • I die cut the images and mounted them with dimensionals on panels consisting of a Pretty Peacock backing and an embossed Basic White front. The die sets I used for these panels were Stylish Shapes and Unbounded Love. The embossing folders were Basics and Timber 3D EFs.
  • The sentiments were from the Hearts & Hugs stamp set again and they were stamped with the Memento ink on Basic White, and die cut and backed using the Stylish Shapes Banners. I had to adjust the length of the shortest one.
  • These were added to the card front and inside as shown.

That gave me all 5 elements: animals, colouring, die cuts, twine and texture or embossing.

I hope you give it a try!

Memorable Blooms for As You See It Challenge #341

memorable blooms for aysi #341 1

Today's card is for As You See It Challenge #341 which is a Recipe Challenge, which requires you to make a card using all five elements in the recipe. Our team mate, Jan C., came up with this beauty, and it has been fun to work with:

challenge #341

I was thinking spring and pastel colours, so I decided to use a new bundle from the Jan - Apr Mini Catalogue, called the Memorable Blooms bundle. Here's my first result:

I don't mind telling you, I had a bit of a struggle with it! I knew I wanted to use the hexagon die to make an opening and to emboss the large flower swag and colour it in, but I didn't know whether or not to leave the card front all white or to add some of the Wildflower Birthday DSP to the front as well as behind the hexagonal opening. I also couldn't decide whether to emboss the flower swag in white or gold. Here is the other option. Which do you like better?

In the end, I opted for the less busy, white one, but I think I liked the flowers embossed in gold better.

Did someone say Sale-A-Bration? Well, I heard that Stampin' Up!® has added a bunch of new Sale-A-Bration Rewards. Take a look:
