Beautiful Moments, Over So Fast, For As You See It Challenges

Friday, and time for another As You See It Challenge! And it's a Speed Stamping Challenge, and I was actually looking forward to it! Can you believe it? It just goes to show that exposure therapy really does work to overcome your anxieties!

This time our Speed Stamping Challenge was created by Design Team member Amy, and it's in Shades of Brown!

I won't claim to have visions, but I could picture exactly what I wanted to do with this card, the minute I tried to visualize my project! I saw one of the new sketched images from the Beautiful Moments stamp set in the Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue on a Shimmery White cardstock panel (which looks almost vanilla) and then by using an Aqua Painter, having the lines blurred in one horizontal direction, almost like the wind blowing the sand.

  • The blurred lines, which look like wind blowing the sand, erasing an image, to me symbolize the way a beautiful moment can be over so quickly no matter how hard you try to hold on to it! It slips through your fingers, like sand. You just have to be in the moment and enjoy it and hope your memory keeps the feelings and events and people safe!
  • I completed this card in 9 minutes and 4 seconds. It would have been faster, but I had to redo the front, in order to change the ink from Crumb Cake, which was too pale, to Soft Suede which gave the sepia tone I was looking for.
  • The Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder makes the perfect backdrop for this front panel, using a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock. This is mounted on a Soft Suede card base.
  • A piece of Braided Burlap trim with a Tropical Oasis trinket created the finishing touch on the front.

Shades of Grey Speed Stamping for As You See It Challenge

It's an As You See It Friday, and time for another new challenge from Amanda! This week is one of my most scary challenges - Speed Stamping - but exhilarating in an adrenaline rush  kind of way. Your colour choices are all taken care of because it's supposed to be monochromatic in different shades of grey!

I got a big chuckle out of the Challenge #175 banner! I laughed because we used to joke that in Stampin' Up! we had 50 Shades of Cardstock, but for this challenge we're only using greys. We can't make that joke anymore after June 1st, because then, due to the colour revamp we will officially have 53 Shades of Cardstock and the joke loses its punch!

These will be the 40 families, plus 10 In Colours, plus 3 Basics - Whisper White, Basic Black, and Very Vanilla.

But back to the challenge. The rules for Speed Stamping are as follows:
  • You can come up with your design and gather materials before you start the clock, but once you start work, you have to complete your project in 10 min.
  • Use only shades of grey and other neutrals in your project.
Here's how mine turned out:

  • It took me just under ten minutes, 9m55sec, to complete the card. I had to abort an attempt at emboss resist with the sentiment on the tree trunk cross section, because it just didn't turn out clear enough.
  • I used the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set* for the images. I really love those veiny, delicate leaves. They make a great background, and I love the way you can overlap them and they look see through. I was going to make the background panel a banner, but ran out of time to make the flagged end, so just had to throw it on the card base as is.
  • My original plan was to emboss the sentiment, also from Rooted in Nature*, in Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder on some Whisper White cardstock and then stamp the tree trunk cross section in Basic Gray Archival**, but that ink did not work well for an emboss resist, so I ditched that one and, instead, stamped the tree trunk in Sahara Sand and the sentiment over top in Basic Gray Archival**. I like the look of the second so much better, but it did cost me time.
  • The third layer of the card is the new neutral colour, Gray Granite*. I was glad I had it in time for this challenge!
*New products from the 2018/19 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue available to purchase starting June 1, 2018.
**Retiring products from the 2017/18 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue and 2018 Occasions Catalogue, only available until May 31 or while supplies last.

Why don't you give Speed Stamping a try and enter our challenge this weekend? It can be challenging and a bit nerve-wracking, but it's also a lot of fun, and it's amazing what you can create in that time! Share it with the world!

Have a great weekend!

Timed Stamping for As You See It Challenges

Arggggh!  Another timed stamping challenge for As You See It Challenges!  Do. Not. Like.  But it does challenge me and that's what challenges are all about.  This one turned out not half bad!

Here's the challenge:

When I saw Shades of Yellow, I immediately thought Sunflowers!  I went looking for a sunflower image among my stamp sets and many were close, but I didn't see a good one until I opened up Bloom with Hope! I feel I must apologize for featuring this set so much, but versatility and usability, along with great design are the marks of a classic stamp set.  I'm sad that it is a Hostess set because they always retire at the end of the year and so your time is limited.  Make sure you don't miss it!  You must be a Hostess in order to have access to this set.  Contact me and we can set up a date for your own workshop.

Speaking of which:  If you book a workshop and hold it before October 31, you will win a free stamp set called Good Greetings!

  • We had 10 minutes to complete the card from start to finish.  I finished just under the wire in 9 minutes, 45 seconds.
  • After a couple of false starts with the stem and some Pear Pizzazz, I decided to do without the stem and just stamped the sunflower-like bloom in Crushed Curry and added some So Saffron splotches from Gorgeous Grunge.
  • The sentiment is also from Bloom with Hope and I really like the script for all the sentiments in the set.
  • I used almost all the yellow shades I have in stock:  Crushed Curry, Daffodil Delight and So Saffron.  I didn't use Hello Honey because it has some grayness in that shade that didn't mix well with the warm feel of the other yellows.
  • The burlap ribbon with the Crushed Curry Candy Dots is a perfect finish.
Have some fun yourself with this challenge.  Don't be intimidated by the time, just do your best and if you go over the 10 minute mark, just say so on your entry.  And let me know if you want to schedule your own workshop.  You can earn fabulous hostess rewards, plus win a free stamp set!
