Vintage Grapevine for Monday Morning Facebook Live

vintage grapevine for monday morning live 1

Welcome back after the weekend! We're suffering through an intense heatwave here with highs in the 40s which is like 104 plus in Fahrenheit. We're lucky enough to have central air conditioning, but I really feel worried for those who don't. Thankfully, they are setting up cooling centers for people who don't have options.

Today is my regular Monday Morning Facebook Live and I wanted to do a simpler version of a vintage card that I did a couple of weeks ago so I could demonstrate it. I will post the You Tube video replay here after I upload it. (I apologize for the sound quality. Something went wrong with the editing program I use.)

Here is the more complicated version:

original vintage card 1

You can find it here.

My speedier, simplified version is this one, using the Forever Grapevine Bundle from page 76 in the 2021/22 Annual Catalogue.

  • Again I used an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock for my base. Soft Sea Foam is an awesome colour to use for vintage card making, especially paired with Very Vanilla and wood tones. The card base is scored along the 8 1/2" side at 4 1/4".
  • On another sheet of Soft Sea Foam cut at 4" x 5 1/4", I stamped some splatters from the Quiet Meadow stamp set in stamped off Crumb Cake ink.
  • Then this panel is embossed in the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder as a faster way of adding Embossing Paste texture. I then used a Blending Brush to lightly add Crumb Cake ink to areas on the top of this panel, after adding a strip of the Very Vanilla Scalloped Lace Trim down the left side of this panel about 3/4" from the left side.
  • I made a raised "wooden panel" by cutting a piece of the heavy chipboard that comes with our foil sheets to 2 3/4" x 4 1/2" and then a piece of the dark wood grain from the In Good Taste DSP to the same measurements and gluing the two together, matching the edges exactly. This panel is glued to the card front as shown.

  • I die cut the grapevine, extra leaves and a couple of the flourishes from the an extra piece of Soft Seafoam, measuring 5 3/4" x 4 1/4". The dies are from the Grapevine Dies. I glued on the grapevine and flourishes to the woodgrain panel and then added the extra grape leaves with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from the Forever Grapevine stamp set as is the shape around it and it is die cut with a coordinating die from the Grapevine Dies. I stamped it in Early Espresso ink on Very Vanilla cardstock and stamped the shape around it in Crumb Cake ink. I added Crumb Cake ink to the edges using a Blending Brush.
  • Dimensionals were used to add the sentiment to the card front as shown.
  • For a couple more days you can get the Ladybug trinkets from the Jan/June Mini Catalogue, then they will be gone. I added one to this card front.
  • The Bumblebee trinkets are back in stock and adding two to the card really adds to the look.

Soar Confidently for a Vintage Monday Morning Live

soar confidently for vintage monday morning live 1

Do you remember seeing the Soar Confidently stamp set on page 70 of the Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue? It's one that could easily skip your notice. It's not part of a big suite or bundle, but it has some unique features that you can create some pretty cool effects with like I did here with this vintage look card.

I recall seeing vintage sepia photos that had been hand coloured for an effect that looked something like this:

hand coloured sepia

That was the effect I was going for when I created this card. I stamped the images from the Soar Confidently stamp set on Crumb Cake cardstock using Soft Suede ink and coloured them in lightly with Night of Navy and Cherry Cobbler Watercolour Pencils, then used either a Water Painter or a Blender Pen to move the ink from the many lines over these images to create a sepia tone. This will be the effect I demonstrate on my regular Monday Morning Facebook Live on my Playing with Papercrafting Facebook page at 11 am PDT. When I'm finished I will upload it to YouTube and post it here as well. You can find the materials and measurements listed in this post.

Here's a closer look:

  • On a Crumb Cake card base cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4" on the long side, a background piece of Soft Suede cardstock, 4" x 5 1/4" was added and on that a piece of the World of Good Specialty DSP cut at 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" was centered and adhered.
  • Another piece of the World of Good Specialty DSP (the Misty Moonlight with the brass gridlines) cut at 1" x 4 7/8" was backed with a piece of Soft Suede cut at 1 1/8" x 5" and sponged on all sides with Soft Suede ink. A piece of the retiring Braided Linen Trim (I'm sure going to miss this!) is tied around this piece vertically as shown above. Make sure to watch the video for a cool hack for this! Then this panel is adhered to the far left side of the card front.
  • The balloon image is stamped in Soft Suede on a 2 3/8" x 3 1/16" piece of Crumb Cake cardstock. The stripes are coloured with a Night of Navy watercolour pencil while the stars are coloured with the Cherry Cobbler version. Then, using either a Water Painter or a Blender Pen, the Soft Suede ink is moved over the image from top towards the bottom, following the lines of the balloon. This panel is then sponged with Soft Suede ink and mounted on a Soft Suede panel cut at 2 1/2" x 3 3/16" and mounted on the bottom right of the card front.
  • The airship is stamped on a piece of Crumb Cake cut at 2 3/8" x 1 5/8" using Soft Suede Ink again. It's coloured in with Cherry Cobbler watercolour pencil then the Water Painter or Blender Pen moves the Soft Suede ink as before. Then that panel is sponged with Soft Suede before mounting on a  2 1/2" x 1 3/4" piece of Soft Suede and adhering to the card front.

The sentiment is from the Soar Confidently stamp set and is stamped in Soft Suede on a 5/8" x 2 5/8" piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, notched at one end with the Banners Pick a Punch. It's sponged with Soft Suede again and mounted on the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
