Country Home Stamp Set in Pastels

I have been so inspired by a set of cards made by Laurin Alarid from the Artisan Design Team for Stampin' Up! using the Country Home stamp set and pastel colours with lots of texture and layering. Laurin's inspirational blog is Crafty Little Peach. I'm used to seeing this set with more intense colours like Blackberry Bliss and Crushed Curry, so when I saw her designs in shades of Balmy Blue and Frost White Shimmer Paint, I wanted to get on the pastel bandwagon right away.

I used Petal Pink for my pastel along with Sahara Sand as my neutral and Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint (and a little Frost White as well). Here's how it turned out:

  • I embossed my Petal Pink card base with the Tin Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder to add texture to the project and just because I love it so much!
  • My front panel is Shimmery White cardstock because I wanted to do some watercolour smooshing and Whisper White won't stand up to the water you need to use to do that. To smoosh,  I used a Stampin' Write Marker and scribbled on an acetate sheet, then spritzed with a little water and pressed it to my paper, rubbing the ink around by rubbing the back of the acetate with my fingers, making the ink go roughly where I wanted it to go. I lifted off the acetate and blotted the extra puddles with some paper towel, then dried the paper on both sides with the Heat Tool. Once dry, I repeated the steps with another layer of the same colour or added another colour, in this case Sahara Sand.
  • I love the combo of the Petal Pink and the touch of Sahara Sand. I ended up with a very marble-like design.
  • You can use the Chicken Wire Element as a mask. I taped some down and painted over it with the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint. I think I needed to add more paint to really get the feel of the chicken wire, but I was still left with a really neat shimmery, textury looking area that I really liked.
  • I stamped my images from the Country Home stamp set on Shimmery White cardstock as well so I could watercolour them using an Aqua Painter. I stuck to Petal Pink, Sahara Sand and I threw in some Frost White Shimmer Paint for the cotton balls. It gives them a little dimension as well as shine. The images were fussy cut and added to the stamped front panel, bumping up the milk tin with Dimensionals.

Snowflake Showcase Strikes Again

I'm still drooling over the stamp sets and dies that are part of the Snowflake Showcase promotion that Stampin' Up! will be offering all it's customers starting November 1. It's a limited time offer that ends at the end of November, however, so be prepared to act quickly, because it's while supplies last as well, and I have a feeling this one is going to be very popular. First, it's beautiful with so many detailed and amazing images and dies, and second, it's versatile. Between the two stamp sets, it will keep you going all year long and the dies coordinate with both.

So far, I just have the Snow is Glistening stamp set and the Snowfall Thinlit Dies, but I may spring for the other set, called Happiness Surrounds, soon. It would ensure that I got the most out of my die set. In the meantime, I've been posting other samples to my Snowflake Showcase Pinterest Board for your chance to see all the possibilities.

I wanted to make another sample to show you some of the other images that come in the Snow is Glistening photopolymer stamp set and one of my favourite die cuts made from the beautiful White Velveteen Sheets that you can also purchase as part of this promotion.

  • I really love the border stamp that is part of the Snow is Glistening set. It kind of reminds me of a snow globe just after you shake it and the 'snow' starts to fall to the bottom of the globe. I used the same stamp at the bottom of the front panel as well, just not as much of it. The image is stamped in Versamark and embossed using White Stampin' Emboss Powder.
  • The super sentiment is also from the Snow is Glistening set. There are several I really like in this set. I also embossed 4 sizes of snowflakes on the front panel.
  • The snowflake flourish that you see is my favourite die from the Snowfall Thinlit dies. It looks just like a gust of wind whirling the snow around. I like how each snowflake is different. I have die cut it from the White Velveteen Sheets that are part of this promotion. I know that you can't tell the difference from Whisper White cardstock in this photo, but in real life, it looks soft and feels softer!
  • On my card, I used small pieces of Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to pop it up over the embossed snowflakes behind. I added some Rhinestone Basic Jewels to draw the eye to it over the background snowflakes.

Signs of Santa for Christmas Card Buffet Class

This coming Saturday, I will be doing a Christmas Card Buffet class and I needed one last sample for it. I had several beautiful cards and I needed one more cute design, so I got out the Signs of Santa stamp set to see what I could come up with. Now with a Card Buffet, the class members are completing up to 16 cards in 3 hours so they have to be fairly simple to do. I hope this one will be okay if I do some of the die cutting ahead of time. It not only features the Signs of Santa bundle but also the Hometown Greetings Edgelit dies for the village.

You can see how I created that here:

  • I die cut the one edgelit twice, once in Poppy Parade and once in Whisper White. I trimmed off the trees on both die cuts, because there are no trees at the North Pole, right? and then I also trimmed the snowman off the red piece and all the houses off the white one. Then I adhered them together so that the white would make the ground snowy instead of red.
  • This was mounted on a Whisper White panel run through the Big Shot with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder.
  • I stamped the sentiment from Signs of Santa at the bottom first, in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Santa and the signpost images were stamped in the same ink and coloured in with Stampin' Write Markers: I used Poppy Parade, Crushed Curry, Pool Party, Crumb Cake, Powder Pink and Blushing Bride.
  • These two images and the three large snowflakes were die cut with framelits from the Santa's Signposts Framelits and added to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals and the mini versions as well.
  • Rhinestones were added to the center of the snowflakes. This panel was adhered to a Poppy Parade card base.
