Whale Done for As You See It Challenges

I really can't believe it's time for another As You See It Challenge today. And this time it's a recipe challenge concocted by Design Team member, Amy! Here are all the elements in the recipe:

I had thought about going gingham and flowery with the paper scraps and repeat images, which seemed to go along well with the pink colour in the recipe, but as I was looking over my new stamp sets, my eye fell on the Whale Done stamp set with it's Jellyfish image and I immediately thought, "Jellyfish would look great as repeat images done in shades of pink!" Then, my new Rainbow Glimmer Paper caught my eye and I envisioned using scraps of that to go along with my shimmery looking jellyfish and my vision came together. Here it is:

  • On a Pool Party base, I added a piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock that I embossed with the very intricate Seabed 3D Embossing Folder. This one is so cool because different elements are embossed at different depths, giving it a true 3D appearance, and they're all undersea images.
  • I took a 2" strip of Whisper White and sponged it with Coastal Cabana, Pool Party and Soft Sea Foam Ink. Then, using the Hinge Technique with the Stamparatus, I stamped several images of the jellyfish from the Whale Done stamp set. Each one was stamped in a different shade of pink/purple starting from Blushing Bride to Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, Magenta Madness and Gorgeous Grape. I added this panel to the front of the Soft Sea Foam panel.
  • I had a 1/2" strip of Rainbow Glimmer paper that I cut into two 5 1/4" lengths to use for my paper scraps. I tried my new Stampin' Seal+ adhesive to see how well it would work on the glimmer paper and it seems to be holding really well.
  • I needed a one word sentiment and the closest I had in the Whale Done stamp set was Thanks a ton, so I masked the "a ton" in tape, inked up the thanks in Magenta Madness, removed the tape and stamped the one word, Thanks, on to a 1/2" wide strip of Whisper White. I then trimmed and flagged the end and mounted it on the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The last element I needed was a bow. The Whale of a Time Suite has some beautiful ribbon to go with it that I wanted to try:  the Pool Party 3/8" Sheer Ribbon. It's sheer and shimmery and really easy to work with. I added the bow to the top left to balance the sentiment in the bottom right, but I think it might look really good with the sentiment as well.

You have only 10 days left to take advantage of my Suite Shares! They will only be available until the end of June. With Suite Shares, I offer you a half share of all the paper, ribbon and embellishments that are part of one particular suite in the new 2020/2021 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue. That way you get enough to work with, all the products coordinate, you only choose the suites you really like and you have the option of adding the stamp set and tool bundle to your share and earning a special treat from me, if you do. The shares themselves are very affordable, so you can afford to do more than one if you would like to.

Celebrate Sunflowers for New at SU Blog Hop

Welcome to our NEW AT SU! Blog hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with creative paper crafting ideas to share with you. Today we are showcasing new Floral Bundles from the 2020/2021 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue.

The new floral bundle that I'm showcasing this month is the Celebrate Sunflowers bundle consisting of the Celebrate Sunflowers cling stamp set and the Sunflower dies. I've played with this bundle before, but this time I really wanted to explore the full range of what I could do using both the stamps and the dies to their fullest capacity. I also got a chance to try out the new Water Painters, which are the replacements for the old Aqua Painters, and the new Stampin' Seal, which is the replacement for the Snail. It was my first project after getting shipment of the new In Colour stamp pads, too, so I got to try out some of the new inks.
Here's a closer look at my card:

  • I used Soft Suede as a warm neutral for my base and on top of that I used a design from the new Peony Garden Designer Series Paper, a series that I just love! This particular design has a marble look to it.
  • For my sunflowers, I started by watercolouring a washed background on Shimmery White cardstock. For the lighter one, I used Bumble Bee and Mango Melody and for the darker one I used a combination of Pumpkin Pie and Terracotta Tile. Then I die cut the outline shape of the sunflower. I was going to just put the colour-washed background behind the die-cut detailed sunflower, which I did in Terracotta Tile for the lighter one and Cinnamon  Cider for the darker one. But it just looked too plain and didn't make enough use of the stamp set. But then I had to figure out how to match the large sunflower stamp to the background shape.
  • Enter the Stamparatus to the rescue!! I used some of the Stamparatus grid paper and held it down with the magnets. Then I mounted the sunflower stamp on one of the plates, inked it up and stamped it on the grid paper. After that I put a glue dot on the back of one of the colour-washed outlines and matched it up with the outline of the stamped image and adhered it in place on the grid paper. (Don't worry, it's easy to get off again.
  • Then I inked up the stamp, but put a piece of paper in between  the background and the stamp and lightly stamped off once so the stamped image wouldn't be super strong, then removed the waste paper and stamped the colour-washed background. It worked out really well. The lighter one I stamped in Terracotta Tile and the darker one in Cinnamon Cider, just like their paper outlines. Then I glued on the cardstock outlines.
  • The leaves are colour-washed in Old Olive and die cut, while the detailed leaves are die cut from the green design from the World of Good Specialty DSP. The grasses are cut from Soft Suede, Cinnamon Cider cardstock, and the same DSP as the leaves.
  • The sentiment is from the same stamp set and I used the Lovely Label Pick a Punch to shape the cardstock.

I hope you enjoyed my project with the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set and the Sunflower Dies. Now please hop on over to Jackie Bultje's blog to see what's new with SU in her world:
