My YouTube Tutorials on Making Custom-Sized Gift Boxes & Bags

I completed my Stampin' Up! Holiday Solutions event on Saturday and it was an interesting experience. It was the first time I had tried something like that online and I had everything planned out down to the wire. However, just because it is all planned out, does not mean it's going to go smoothly! I decided that I would introduce myself and the event using Facebook Live at the beginning of the event and sign off by Facebook Live at the end of the event, but instead of doing the demos by Facebook Live as well, all the while trying to monitor comments and posting photos and games, which would be too overwhelming, I decided it would be better to film them ahead of time and post the videos on the group page during the event.

I spent a lot of time filming and editing the videos, only to find out that most of them were too big for Facebook. I didn't realize that because I've only ever done Facebook Lives and they have been long, so I didn't think there would be a difference. Once the event was over, I was able to split a couple of the videos and then post them quickly within the hour, so most of the attendees saw them anyway, but it was stressful during the event.

Since I edited these videos, I uploaded them to YouTube, so I thought I would share them with you today:

The first one is how to make custom boxes for gift giving:

Here is the calculation to make the box:

Custom Sized Boxes
Bottom

______________ + ______________ + ______________ = ______________
Side                         Length                     Side               Total Length of paper

______________ + ______________ + ______________ = ______________
Side                         Width                       Side                Total Width of paper

Top

______________ + ______________ + ______________ = ______________
Side                         Length                     Side               Total Length of paper

______________ + ______________ + ______________ = ______________
Side                         Width                      Side                Total Width of paper

This video is the sequel to the first, actually the second half of the first video when I had to cut it in half to be able to be able to post it:

And here's the calculation you need to figure out your paper size for this one:

Custom Sized Bags

___½”_____ + ____________ + ____________ + ____________ +

    Flap                Width                    Length                Width

____________ = ____________

Length                Total Length of Paper

______________ + ______________ = ______________
Width                Height  of Item    Total  Width of Paper                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                I hope these are helpful to you in wrapping up some of those awkward presents this Holiday Season!

Curvy Dies for As You See It Challenges #237

curvy dies for aysi 237 1

Back when I created the sketch for As You See It Challenge #237, I didn't have any idea that Stampin' Up! would be bringing out the Curvy Celebration Suite with it's Curvy Dies and the Curvy Christmas stamp set, but the Curvy dies turned out to be the perfect ones to use for the diagonal stripe on the sketch.

Here's the Challenge Banner:

Because the  curvy die only cuts on one edge, I thought I would go crazy trying to figure out how to get the same curve on both sides of a slit or channel cut in a top layer, but it's impossible, trust me! I ended up creating an effect by layering a small curve of Crumb Cake, a wider curve of Real Red design paper (Classic Christmas 6 x 6 DSP) on top of a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Crumb Cake. See if you can see what I did to understand better:

  • I stamped a sentiment from the Quite Curvy stamp set in the bottom left to fulfill the requirements of the challenge, but I really prefer the design without that sentiment:

  • The plainer version suits the Scandinavian design a bit better. And the Merry Christmas message is better on it's own. What do you think?
  • I used one of the Gold Hoops Embellishments from the Annual Catalogue to hold the white foliage. Most of it is the backside of the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty Paper, also found in the Annual Catalogue. One of the pairs of foliage come from the Curvy Dies, cut from Whisper White cardstock.
  • The stars are die cut using the Stitched Stars dies. The sentiment from Curvy Christmas stamp set is embossed on Crumb Cake in White Stampin' Emboss Powder. Everything is attached to the Gold Hoop using Glue Dots.

The November Paper Pumpkin Subscription period is only available until November 10 and in case supplies are running low, it's best not to leave it until the last minute! It looks like a sweet one, for sure!

Packaging Solutions with Stampin' Up!

Just a quick post today as I am in the throes of preparing for a Facebook event on Saturday called Stampin' Up! Holiday Solutions! This is a free event that will show you some simple ways that Stampin' Up! can help you with your Christmas and other holiday preparations.

Part of those preparations is packaging gifts and treats! One of the things I will demonstrate on Saturday is how to create custom sized boxes and bags for small gifts out of our Designer Series Paper and cardstock. This is especially timely with our Designer Series Paper Promotion on now!

Take a look at the bag and box I made:

I don't want to give away too many details about these projects right now as I will be demonstrating how to figure out the measurements you need depending on the size of the article you want to package and how to cut and assemble it. I am focussing on the Poinsettia Place DSP for these activities.

You can join in the festivities at any time Saturday and beyond by joining this Facebook Group:  https://www.facebook.com/events/852402291964782

The actual event will be held live on Saturday, Oct. 24th, 2020 from 10:00 - 10:45 am and it's free to attend, but you can attend any time after that for a week, before the group will be closed. I am running the event along with Marion Hall, a member of my downline.

Here are the details of the Designer Series Paper Promotion:
