Gorgeous Leaves for The Paper Players

gorgeous leaves 1

My house is sadly empty again after having all my kids and grandkids visiting last week, all together for the first time in about five years. It was total chaos, but wonderful! I'm exhausted but missing them terribly! However it's time to get back to crafting, and I'm into fall mode here as I pull out the Gorgeous Leaves bundle from the new July/Dec Mini Catalogue and design a card to enter in The Paper Player's latest Colour Challenge:

I also tried some Cork Specialty Paper weaving for the Global Design Project's Case the Designer Challenge:

Here's a closer look at the weaving:

  • The feature of this card is the centerpiece of woven specialty cork paper. I cut strips of 1/2' of the cork paper and arranged about 6 along one strip above and below alternately, gluing them so that they would stay fixed.
  • I added additional horizontal strips, alternating above and below the vertical strips. I used glue dots to adhere the ends to keep them in place.
  • When done, I trimmed it on the Paper Trimmer to a 2 1/2" square and glued it to a piece of Real Red cardstock, cut to 2 5/8" square.
  • I used the splatter image from the Gorgeous Leaves stamp set and inked it in Daffodil Delight, then used sponge daubers to add Real Red and Old Olive ink on either side and stamped it on the top right and bottom left of a 4 1/2" x 3 1/4" piece of Basic White cardstock. I glued the woven cork square on this centering it in a diamond orientation.
  • I stamped the leaf images you see above from the Gorgeous Leaves stamp set on Basic White. I inked them in one of the challenge colours and added another colour by sponge daubing it on before stamping.
  • The sentiment is from the Delicate Dahlias stamp set (a Sale-a-Bration Level 2 reward) and is stamped in Old Olive ink on a left-over Kits Collection label.
  • The other two layers are Daffodil Delight and Old Olive on the Basic White Thick card base.

What is Your Favourite Animal - for As You See It Challenge #256

sloth 1

There is quite a story behind this card and I'm not sure how much of it I can share with you right now. First of all, I have two of my three daughters and their families visiting right now and the house is almost completely FULL, waiting until tonight when my third daughter arrives with her family, and then the house will be COMPLETELY FULL! I'm trying to craft and write posts around playing with a houseful of grandkids, which isn't easy, but is a wonderful problem to have after the last year and a half! They are having a ball together!

It's a new As You See It Challenge today and this one is a Fill In The Blank Challenge:

challenge #256

When I looked for a current stamp set to depict one of my favourite animals, I drew a blank! But then my middle daughter (who loves sloths, by the way)pulled off a major coup!

My youngest daughter has been fangirling a major local celebrity for years and every time she comes home for a visit, she says," I wonder if I'll see J----- while I'm here?"

My middle daughter, saw that this same celebrity was selling bouquets of her flowers for charity, hand delivered, so she bought a bouquet for my youngest daughter so she would be sure to meet this celebrity! But it turned out that on the day in question, the celebrity was under the weather and postponed the transaction until the next day. Knowing this, I thought I would make a get well card for her to take with them, and since I needed a favourite animal card, I decided to use the Back On Your Feet stamp set and the sloth image for the get well card.

back on your feet 1
  • I used some of the jungle themed paper from In the Wild Designer Series Paper as background for my poor, under-the-weather sloth. I chose a colour from the background, Merry Merlot, for the card base.
  • The first Sahara Sand layer is dry embossed with one of the Greenery Embossing Folders. I had to use it twice to emboss the whole sheet.
  • The sloth image is coloured in with the Smoky Slate, Gray Granite, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Evening Evergreen Stampin' Blends Markers. Then I die cut it using the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I used them as well for it's Merry Merlot backing.
  • The sentiment is from the Back on Your Feet stamp set and I die cut it out with the same Stitched Rectangle Dies.
  • A little Linen Thread bow finishes it off.
The girls said the celebrity was really touched by the card. If I get permission, I will share a photo of the girls with her.

I have a couple of photos of the grandkids, but I've really been so busy playing with them, I've largely forgotten to take photos. I'll have to improve over the last two days, but here they are:

Cedar is showing her two cousins, Parker and Jackson, the intricacies of make up and how to do a make over. Below, Gramps gets to model the results.
