This was a good card for me to make today. I'm having a bit of a hard time with gratitude right now. We are enmeshed in a labour dispute with the future of public education in our province at stake. Our government has refused any opportunity to bargain or solve the problem and the kids are still not back in the classrooms. We believe that the government is going to introduce privatization and sell our schools to corporate interests. I'm having a hard time finding something to be grateful for. But when I see the many citizens who are starting to speak up and support the teachers, that is where I find the opportunity to be grateful. I just hope that it is enough.
Mojo Monday has a challenge this week with an interesting layout, so I thought I would give it a try:
It has clean lines, but off center. So have a look at what I came up with:
- I was excited to see that Truly Grateful, a stamp set from last year's Holiday Catalogue, had made it into the Annual Catalogue. I love the texture in these images, very earthy and rustic looking.
- After doing a bit of looking, I decided on this background DSP from Colour Me Autumn. This DSP is so vibrant that it has a really hard time playing background design. It wants to be the star of the show. So you have to work hard to find something that will be the visual focus for your card. I think I succeeded with the sentiment on clean, Very Vanilla cardstock in a balanced spot on the card. Using Early Espresso helped as well.
- I love the texture on this card. With the sheaf of wheat, the hardwood chevron design in Crumb Cake, the Natural Chevron Ribbon and the tree cookie with the Autumn Wooden Elements Acorn plus the Honeycomb Embossing Folder, texture is everywhere you look.
Aaaaand, it's Tuesday and time for more....
