The Summer of the Minions

With the release of The Minion Movie in July, the kids around here are all about the minions! They finally got a starring role in their own story, not just as Gru's sidekicks, and are now everywhere on TV ads, toys, decor items and you name it!

But that's okay! I kinda like these little creatures and they are so much fun to create using punch art for cards! I have a Mom & Me class coming up this Saturday, and so I came up with a female version of a minion to go along with this card:

This was one I made a while back, but since I have quite a mostly girls coming to the class, I thought a more feminine version might be appreciated.

  • Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight were meant for each other! Pair them with Basic Black and Whisper White and you have a striking colour combination.
  • To round off the top of the minions head, I place the yellow strip of cardstock through the middle of the Circle Framelit and under one edge, then roll through the Big Shot only far enough to cut the edge and no further so that you don't get the impression of the framelit on the lower part.

  • I got the idea for using the Bow Builder Punch (which just happens to be one of the Weekly Deals this week, and the little insignia on the overalls from Pinterest on a treat bag created by Robin Anderson and displayed on Dawn Olchefski's blog although I wasn't able to find it there. Got to give credit where it is due, right?!
  • I used both Circle Punches and the Circles Collection Framelits to make the various parts of the goggles and the eye, as well as the mouth, which is just another sliver punched off the 1" circle.
  • The sentiment from A Dozen Thoughts, is just perfect for this card, don't you think?
If you think your child would like to learn how to make this minion card, in their choice of pink or blue, and if you live in my area, register here  for the Mom & Me class this Saturday. Let me know the name of your child and if they would like to do the pink version or the blue version.

It's Tuesday again, and time for some new Weekly Deals:
