Beauty of the Deep for As You See It Challenge #302

beauty of the deep for aysi #302 1Well, what a week I've had. I went camping, which was a lot of fun, but while camping, I managed to spill water on my computer, which was pretty hard to do, considering it was in a case, and the water was in a water tight container with only a 1/4" straw for it to exit from. Nevertheless, I managed somehow to fry the motherboard and all my apps and data with it. I'm working on a new laptop now which I will be refunded for, should they, by some miracle, manage to restore my old one. Needless to say, I've spent the week trying to find all my useful old apps and download them again.

But I did manage to create a new card for As You See It Challenge #302, a sketch challenge entitled Build with the Basics! Here's the Challenge Banner:

A circle in the center and a rectangle or stripe down the middle: that's the basics, right? This was designed by Team Member Jan, who is really good at coming up with sketches that allow the maximum freedom and creativity.

I just got the Beauty of the Deep bundle and I was dying to use it, but I thought that a horizontal version of the sketch would suit the set better, and I also thought that a blended ink stripe in the middle would work well as the stripe with some images from the Season of Chic stamp set to add to it. Take a closer look at the design:

  • I started with a card base of Basic White Thick cardstock and added a layer of Basic White regular cardstock measuring 5 3/8" x 4 1/8", embossed with the retired Seashells 3D embossing folder. I also added some Tahitian Tide 1/8" Metallic Woven Ribbon across the middle before adhering it to the card base using Stampin' Seal.
  • On a 3 3/8" x 5" piece of Basic White cardstock, I blended three colours of ink between two pieces of ripped cardstock anchored in place. The ink I used with the Blending Brushes was Coastal Cabana, Tahitian Tide and Lost Lagoon.
  • Once the ink was blended into the horizontal stripe, I stamped the dotted image and the seashell from the Season of Chic stamp set using Wild Wheat ink with second generation stamping. I'm really warming up to that colour, and it was the perfect one to use with these blues.
  • This layer was added to the card front using dimensionals.
  • I die cut the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes dies and stamped it with images from the Beauty of the Deep stamp set. The colours I used were Pretty Peacock, Gray Granite, Crumb Cake, Calypso Coral, Lemon Lime Twist,  and then I blended some Lost Lagoon over it all.
  • I die cut fish and coral, an urchin and an anchor and adhered them to the circle then adhered it to the card front using dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from Season of Chic and I stamped it in Lost Lagoon ink over some of the ink blending "overspray" so to speak, then fussy cut it.

  5. What a beauty, Heather! The more I look, the more I see. You know I'm a big fan of a faux torn paper strip, and sea sets so it was a winner already. Adding in the embossed layer behind and popping up the panel was genius! I feel a CASE coming on!
