Happy Thanksgiving Weekend

happy thanksgiving weekend 1

This is a quick post to wish all my Canadian readers and friends a Happy Thanksgiving weekend! I hope you are all having a great time with family and friends, gobbling turkey (see what I did there?) and pumpkin pie, and enjoying yourselves! At the time I am writing this, I am still awaiting word about whether or not my youngest daughter and family with be with us, but if not we will be inviting someone to Thanksgiving dinner.

I wanted to make a card to mark the occasion, so I got out my beautiful All About Autumn DSP and my Autumn leaves bundle, some Fluid 100 watercolour paper and the Timber 3D embossing folder and I was set to create. Here's what ensued:

  • On a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolour paper, I started, using a wet-on-wet technique, to apply gradually darkening shades of ink to the bottom. I used Lemon Lime Twist, Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, and Cajun Craze. After drying the ink, I spattered some water onto the paper and soaked up the droplets with a paper towel after letting it sit for a minute. I redried the paper and then, using the Autumn Leaves dies, die cut several of the small leaf shapes out of the whole paper.
  • I trimmed a small rectangle of Copper Clay and ran it through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine with the Timber 3D embossing folder. Then I sponged on some Copper Clay ink around the edges and over the raised bits to enhance the embossing.
  • I stamped the sentiment from Autumn Leaves in Pumpkin Pie ink and die cut it with one of the labels from the Autumn Leaves dies.
  • For the background I took the two patterns you see behind and cut 4 1/4" x 4" pieces and arranged one on the left and one on the right of the card front.
  • Then I adhered the main image piece.
  • On the Copper Clay rectangle, I arranged all the leaves I wanted (including a gold leftover sprig from a Paper Pumpkin kit) into a nice spray and adhered them down using glue dots. I added the sentiment, using Seal, then mounted the whole rectangle using dimensionals.
  • Finally, I doubled a strand of Linen Thread and tied a bow to add with a glue dot.
