Rock-A-Bye Baby

Have you ever stopped to think how twisted most of our well-known fairy tales, songs and lullabies are?  Really!  Cruelty, murder and mayhem are the norm.  Snow White escaped from the huntsman, who was instructed by the evil queen to cut her heart out.  She lived for a time under the protection of 7 strange little men, until the evil queen caught up with her and poisoned her into a coma.  Nightmarish!

How about lullabies?  Rock-a-bye baby was a common lullaby in my growing up and mothering years, but just listen to the lyrics:

Rock-a-bye, baby  - Is someone trying to get rid of this infant??

In the tree tops -       Why is the baby in the tree tops?  This would NOT earn the approval of the National

When the wind blows -   Are we talking gentle breeze or gale force winds?

The cradle will rock. -     Phew!  Just a gentle breeze!  Or is it?

When the bough breaks - Oops! I think we are leaving the baby out in the storm

The cradle will fall,    - Yep!  The laws of gravity coming in to play here.  Hard to believe they didn't
                                    anticipate this when hanging the cradle in the tree tops.                                                      
And down will come baby - ummm.......        
                                                                                
 Cradle and all!  -  Unless this cradle is made of reinforced bubble wrap, that baby  is toast!       
                                                                 

Do you mean to tell me that you think I'm going to close my eyes when you sing that song? 

Well, thankfully, Stampin' Up has no such images or sentiments among it's collection of baby stamps and sentiments!  I created this card to send to my niece on the birth of her third child, a little girl.

It's a little bit of punch art, crafting a baby buggy using the 2 1/2" Circle punch, the 3/4" Circle punch and the Ticket Duo punch.  As well, I used the Adorning Accents Edgelits.  The colour palette is from The Paper Players Challenge #136:

These are lovely together, and I added Crumb Cake as a neutral.  I think my favourite part is the little fork bow in the Striped Organdy ribbon.  Fork bows are so adorable and I'm going to have to do a video tutorial on how to make them, I think.
