Jar of Haunts Thank Yous for Pals Paper Arts

A large order came in yesterday and I had a great many thank you cards to make for my customers. I got out a package of Whisper White Note Cards and Envelopes and set out to make some fall themed thank yous. I had been looking at the Pals Paper Arts Challenge earlier on today and I thought it would make a great layout. Besides, it's been ages since I played with the Pals. Here's Susan Itell's great sketch:

This is a great way to use up scraps of Designer Series Paper, which, as you all know, is on sale all month at buy 3 packages, get 1 package free! I looked around for something to put in the shape at the bottom and decided to use a pumpkin, but since I was making 20 cards at once I wanted to use a brush mark stamp for the colour inside it so it would be quick and easy. Here's how it all came together:

• It's really hard to tell with the white on white background but the Woodgrain Embossing Folder has been used on the white panel mounted on the card base. Here's a bit better photo:

• I had a great time with the pumpkin image. It is from the Jar of Haunts stamp set and I stamped it and the stem with Memento Tuxedo Black ink over top of a brush mark from the Work of Art stamp set inked up with Pumpkin Pie.
• The little thank you sentiment is from Thoughtful Banners and it's the perfect font and size for this card.
• Then I dug out my Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set. There are some real hidden treasures in that stamp set. I was originally going to use the watercolour mark from it, but it was too large for the pumpkin. Instead, I decided to use the falling maple leaves in Cajun Craze and Real Red overlapping the pumpkin slightly and the splotch marks in Pear Pizzazz up where the stem and leaf is to add some green colouring. All in all, I'm very pleased at how it worked out.
• I used some scrap pieces of  Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper cut into 1/2" strips for the background.

Rosy Thoughts for Freshly Made Sketches

First of all, I want to wish all of my Canadian readers, a Happy Thanksgiving! May your turkey be tender and your gratitude great! As a Canadian, I too celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend and my turkey roast is in the oven today. I'm missing my girls and their families today, but I have much to be thankful for. I have good health, a lovely warm house to live in, food to eat each and every day, a loving family and good friends and I have my Stampin' Up! business which has given me not only a creative outlet, but a whole new group of friends as well. Life is good!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend?

Not everyone has it great all the time and it's always good to have some cards handy for when the hard times hit. I was a little low in that department so I decided to get out my Rose Wonder stamp set and my Rose Garden thinlits along with my Copper Foil Sheets and see what I could come up with.

I used the Freshly Made Sketches Challenges sketch as a layout:

Here is how I interpreted the sketch:

• I used the smaller rose thinlit from the Rose Garden Thinlits for this card. The larger die cut would not fit on the smaller background piece. I still wanted the rose bush leaves though, so I used the large die just to cut out the leaves as you see them here and tucked the edges just under the rose diecut when I adhered them to the Designer Series paper. They look like the whole die came that way, don't you think? (Just don't look too close.)
• The rose and leaves were die cut using the Copper Foil Sheets. I found, as I have on previous occasions, that the Copper Foil is difficult to get out of the dies. It seems to have more bulk to it that makes it so that it jams right in the die and makes it so that you have to gently but firmly coax it out. Keep that in mind when using the more intricate dies.
• The beautiful Specialty Designer Series Paper that you're looking at is from the Petals & Paisleys collection. This Very Vanilla design has copper foil dots on it. You can see them shine where the light hits them at the top right and the bottom.
• The sentiment is from the Wetlands stamp set, but the frame and the die that cut it out are from the Rose Wonder stamp set and Rose Garden  Thinlits.

Thanksgiving with Vintage Leaves and Paisleys

I don't really send Thanksgiving cards, but it's a nice idea. I do send or give thank you cards, however, and this one could be used for both. It has a background of paper from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper collection and the sentiment is from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set. I used the leaf stamped from the Vintage Leaves stamp set and die cut with the Leaflets Framelits dies and another couple die cut from the same framelit set.

• The colour palette is taken from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper: Delightful Dijon, Cajun Craze, Rich Razzleberry, Soft Suede, Copper and Very Vanilla. These are all rich, warm, fall shades and can be a bit overpowering if you're not careful.
• The leaves that are just die cut and not stamped have been worked with the bone folder to weaken and separate the fibres so that the layers of the cardstock could be peeled apart. This gives a suede-like texture to the leaves and allows you to scrunch them easily and have the wrinkles remain. I then added some random Versamark Ink and some Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set it. It set REALLY quickly on this thinner paper, but it definitely gave the appearance of weathered leaves.
• The Delightful Dijon leaf was stamped with an image from Vintage Leaves and embossed with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder, then die cut with the coordinating image from the Leaflet frameits.
• The sentiment is from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set and die cut with the framelit from the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelit Dies. I recut it to make it shorter, then die cut a regular length from Soft Suede cardstock for a backing. The ribbon behind it is from the 3/8" Ribbon Trio Pack in the Holiday Catalogue. It coordinates with the Petals & Paisleys Suite of products.
