Bear Hugs - December's Paper Pumpkin

With delivery services overrun by the Christmas rush, my December Paper Pumpkin kit only arrived two days ago. I put it together pretty quickly. I admit that I was not smitten with the critters except for the cute koalas, but the rest of the kit is stunning. I decided to put three of the cards together the way the kit was designed, but then I would use the background and some of the die cuts to create some alternative designs. I will show you the alternatives after Christmas and today I will display the Bear Hugs, as I call them.

I need more thank you cards and these designs work well for that sentiment, so I went to my Massive Thanks stamp set for some alternate words to use.

  • I love the colour and design of this card base and the accompanying designed circle die cut. I will definitely get a lot of use out of the rest of them.
  • These little koala bears are adorable, so I will be using them as well in my alternate cards, either together or separately! The cupcake is definitely usable as well.
  • The sentiment is stamped in the coordinating Rich Razzleberry ink.

  • This bear looks okay on the card, but when I first saw the die cut, I was not very impressed. Let's just say the flowers cover up the least attractive attributes of the critter.
  • Again, the background and die cut panel behind are gorgeous, and I have so many ideas for alternatives.
  • The sentiment is another from Massive Thanks stamp set, stamped in Rich Razzleberry!.

  • Same story with this little raccoon. I wasn't and am still not enamoured with the little guy, even though he looks better on the card than by himself, but the card base and die cut background are beautiful and I'm excited for the possibilities!

Let's Celebrate Giving the Boot to 2020!

let's celebrate giving the boot to 2020 1

I wanted to design a New Year's card and since we didn't really have a New Year's stamp set this year I had to get a bit creative! After all, if there ever was a New Year's Eve to celebrate, it has to be the turning over from 2020 to 2021, right?! I mean with the vaccines starting to roll out now, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, if we can just hang in there a little longer!

I picked and chose from several different sets: Itty Bitty Christmas and Band Together stamp sets for the sentiments, Whiskey Business for the stamped image, Stitched Stars Dies for the stars, the retired Little Numbers dies for the year, and the Wonder of the Season Specialty Designer Series Paper for the background.

let's celebrate giving the boot to 2020 2

  • I'll be recreating this card in my Monday Morning Facebook Live today at 11 am, and then I will upload the replay to YouTube and post it here.
  • I'll include materials & measurements here:
Basic Black cardstock: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4" on the 8 1/2" side.

                                 2 3/4" x 4 1/4" for the embossed sentiment

Black script pattern from the Wonder of the Season Specialty DSP: 5" x 3 3/4"

Basic White: 3/4" x 3 1/8" for the sentiment; 4 1/4" x 5" for the images.

Brushed Metallic Cardstock: Brass - 4" x 6"   Silver Foil Sheet - 4" x 4"

Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon - 3 3/4"

Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder, Heat Tool

Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, Versamark Ink, Mango Melody Stampin' Blends Combo, Pool Party Stampin' Blends Combo, So Saffron Light Stampin Blends, Paper Snips, Little Numbers Dies, Stitched Stars dies, 1 1/2" Circle Punch.

  • I had to mask part of the Celebrate sentiment on the stamp to isolate just the Celebrate word to use.
  • The old, retired Little Numbers dies leave the big bumps on the foil from the holes in the dies. This doesn't happen in newer die sets like the Playful Alphabet Dies, which would be a better choice. I think of them as marquis lights! Right?

Last Minute Gift Suggestions for Stampers in Your Family!

There are only 7 shopping days until Christmas, but there is not enough time to order any physical products from Stampin' Up! in order to get them here before the big day, but if you've left it too long, don't despair! There are still some things you can do to make your crafter happy! Here's what I can offer:

1. Gift Certificates: In any amount and I can even email you one while you etransfer me payment. They can be used for Stampin' Up! products, my retired products and classes.

2. I have only 2 left of this amazing Advent Calendar Kit called Christmas Countdown that I'm letting them go for 50% off - $20 only. It's not only good for Christmas, but the drawers turn around and can be used for other things the rest of the year! One is ready to be assembled. One is already assembled. If you live out of Kelowna, I wouldn't recommend this, as the mail is too slow to get it to you in time, but if you live here then I can deliver it to you.

3. This will work for anyone in Canada. Purchase a prepaid subscription to Paper Pumpkin for your crafter. Paper Pumpkin is a once a month creative break in a box delivered right to your doorstep with everything you need inside to make memorable stamping projects. You can get your crafter anywhere from a $28* one month prepaid subscription to a $300* year's subscription. (*plus tax & shipping) Perfect for someone who is short on time or space for crafting! Plus it is easy as pie to delay or stop your subscription once you have it. Contact me for more information or go to my Online Store to purchase.

4. If you live in Kelowna, you could purchase one of these little Christmas Stationery packs for a friend. They contain 4 Christmas cards, 4 thank you notes and 4 Christmas tags, all with the same theme. The price is $8 and I will deliver in Kelowna and surrounding area.

5. I have several little stocking stuffers and gift card holders for under $5. Message me if you see something you like.

6. Shop from amongst my many gently used retired products. If you live out of town and I have to ship the product, it will likely not make it in time for Christmas, but if you live near Kelowna, I could deliver it.

I hope these suggestions helped with the last minute panic! Happy Stampin'! Don't forget, if you steer your friends and family my way to shop for you, I'll include a small extra gift from me in with their gift for you!

Old Meets New: Poinsettia Dies with Love You Always Paper

old meets new love you always 1

Though I'm getting a bit jaded with Christmas cards, I thought some new materials might inject a little inspiration into the creative process and a marriage was born! Old meets new: the Poinsettia Dies working with some of the new paper in the up coming 2021 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue! The paper I used included the *Love You Always Foil Sheets, *Love You Always Specialty Designer Series Paper, and *Pearlescent Specialty Paper.

*These products are from the upcoming 2021 Jan/June Mini Catalogue and will be available to order until Jan. 5, 2021.

I worked with a palette of Blushing Bride, Soft Sea Foam, Sahara Sand and Silver.

I love the non-traditional, soft pastel palette, yet with the foil, it gives a festive look along with the poinsettia theme.

Looking more closely, you can see the details:

  • On a Sahara Sand base, the background paper is *Love You Always Specialty Designer Series Paper, so beautiful with foil accent designs in Blushing Bride, Rococo Rose and Sahara Sand. Shown here is the Blushing Bride.
  • The Stitched Nested Label Die cut is cut from *Pearlescent Specialty Paper. It provides a background for the beautiful poinsettia.
  • The *Love You Always Blushing Bride Foil Sheets were used to die cut the poinsettia petals with the Poinsettia Dies, which emboss and die cut at the same time. The leaves were cut from Soft Sea Foam, while the berries were also cut from the *Love You Always Blushing Bride Foil Sheets.
  • The center is Silver Foil Sheets. The sentiment, from the retiring Cherish the Season stamp set, is heat embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder. The sentiment strip was punched into a banner end using the Banners Pick a Punch.
*These products are from the upcoming 2021 Jan/June Mini Catalogue and will be available to order until Jan. 5, 2021.
