Delicate Pines & Lights of Aurora for AYSI #356

delicate pines & lights of aurora for aysi #356 1

This has been an amazing year for anyone who wanted to see aurora borealis (or the Northern Lights). Because of the sun's electromagnetic forces being extra active this year, Aurora was seen often and very intensely. Except for me! I haven't really seen it much myself, due to light pollution where I live, and I really, really want to. So I have to make it a priority to get out of the city on a night when it's predicted to be strong and go where I can really see a show!

Anyway, when I saw the sketch for this week's As You See It Challenge, The new Lights of Aurora came to mind right away as a great way to show off those horizontal strips. I was a bit stumped as to what to make the circles in the sketch, but then I saw the Delicate Pines stamp set and it gave me all sorts of options.

Here's the Challenge Banner:

So, I manipulated the sketch by turning the card on it's side and changed from portrait to landscape orientation, but kept the rectangular strips horizontal. I did this because to trim off any more of the pattern from the DSP, would have ruined the effect in my opinion, and that would have meant that the strips would have taken up the whole width of the card front if I had stayed in portrait orientation.

Take another look:

  • On a regular cardbase of Pretty Peacock cardstock, I added a 4 1/4" x 3 1/2" piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock that was embossed using the Soft Waves 3D Embossing Folder, to the upper left hand corner, as you see it.
  • From the design you see of the Lights of Aurora DSP, cut three 1" x 4" consecutive strips from the design. Glue these in the right order on the Lost Lagoon cardstock, top to bottom, as shown.
  • Using the Delicate Pines stamp set, stamp 3 of the small pine stars in Pretty Peacock on some Basic White cardstock. Die cut them with the coordinating die from the Delicate Pines dies.
  • Add them to the left of each rectangular strip using a Stampin' Dimensional. Add a Frosted Iridescent Dot to the center, as shown.
  • On Basic White cardstock, stamp the sentiment in Lost Lagoon ink. Trim out the sentiment with the Paper Trimmer. Add to the bottom right using dimensionals. Add two more Iridescent dots.

Amber Autumn for As You See It Speed Challenge #355

amber autumn for aysi #355

Well, it's another speed challenge at As You See It Challenges and this time the theme for it is Leaves, which is appropriate as the fall season approaches, at least in my part of the world. With more stamp sets and bundles hitting the Last Chance list, I find my stash of current stamp sets dwindling quickly, which is a problem when I try to find sets to match a theme. Luckily, I had just ordered and received the Amber Autumn bundle from the upcoming Sept./Dec. Mini Catalogue, so I was able to use that even though some of my choices were probably a bit time consuming for a speed challenge. Here's the challenge banner:

And here's how it turned out:

  • The card base is an 5 1/2" x 11" piece of Timid Tiger cardstock, scored and folded at 4 1/4".
  • On the card front the large 4" x 5 1/4" die from the Amber Autumn bundle was used to die cut the leaf cut outs. The extra pieces were removed using the brush attachment to the Take Your Pick Tool.
  • A piece of the Autumn Toile DSP was glued just behind the leafy cut out to provide contrast to it.
  • Using Tuxedo Black Memento ink, the leaves and acorns image was stamped on Basic White cardstock. I started by ink blending some Crumb Cake and Timid Tiger ink on to the image, to save time, but I wasn't happy with the outcome, so I brought in some Stampin' Blends Combos to even out the colour: Gray Granite, Timid Tiger, and Strawberry Slush. That took up most of the time.
  • I die cut the image and added it to the card front with dimensionals.
  • I stamped the sentiment, from the same stamp set, in Tuxedo Black ink and trimmed the sentiment strip with the Stampin' Trimmer.
  • I added the sentiment with dimensionals and also some Streaked Dots as embellishments.

Weekend Adventures with Adventure Together for AYSI #354

weekend adventures with adventure for aysi#354 1

Oh man! I'm getting so behind! I'm not getting to use sets until they are on the Last Chance list! I've got to do better! You see, we have a Theme Challenge this week and the theme, decided on by clever team mate, Heather H. is Picnics! I was so stumped by this one! I couldn't think of any picnic sets I had. But then I remembered my latest order from the Online Exclusives and it was some DSP and stickers called Weekend Adventures and with the checkered pattern and outdoors motif, I thought it would be a start. And the stickers had a sweet little mug that would work! Then I remembered a stamp bundle called Adventure Together, that I had loved, because we enjoy RVing. The trouble is, it's already on the Last Chance list and I hadn't touched it yet! Well, better late than never! Here's the Challenge Banner:

Take a closer look at how it all worked out:

  • On a Crumb Cake card base, I added a 4" x 5 1/4" layer of the Weekend Adventures DSP in Old Olive shades, then added the Cajun Craze checked pattern die cut with the largest Stylish Shape square die.
  • I trimmed the Cajun Craze mug sticker from the Weekend Adventures sticker sheet and added it as shown on the checkered "rug" and removed the round sticker, as shown, and added it to the card front.
  • From the Adventure Together bundle, I stamped the trailer, and the largest tree, coloured and die cut them and added them to the card front, the tree with glue dots, and the trailer with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Finally, from the More Than Autumn Bundle, I stamped three of the apples, coloured them and die cut them, also adding them to the card front; two of the apples with glue dots and the front one with a Stampin' Dimensional.
