I have many recommendations, which I will list for you on Friday, but my favourite out of the whole catalogue has to be the Painted Harvest stamp set! The one that I used to make this card:

The reason I love it so much is because of the artwork. It creates a masterpiece and all you have to do is stamp! And it's versatile. Depending what colours you use, you can use it all year long! So that might be at the top of your wish list!

Making Waves with Big on Birthdays

This week, I'm taking a bit of a well-deserved break, as I've had a really busy summer, full of classes and visitors. We've just bought a fifth wheel and we are taking it on its maiden voyage. The problem is that the route we were planning on taking has been closed due to a massive forest fire, so we had to take an alternate route, which had a very steep hill that we were trying to avoid.

I'm just looking forward to a week of relaxation in the outdoors. (Breathe deeply!)

But I wanted to let you know about the card that I will be using for the FREE TUTORIAL on my September newsletter! It features a way of layering ink using a mask that creates an interesting monochromatic wave pattern. Take a look below:

  • I don't want to give away too much, as the tutorial is a photo tutorial that contains a list of materials used, as well as all measurements. This uses many shades of blue green from the Stampin' Up! repetoire.
  • The stamp set used here is Big on Birthdays, a great set for bold sentiments for birthdays!
  • You can use different shades of monochromatic families for this technique and make a rainbow grouping of cards!

How do you get this FREE PHOTO TUTORIAL, you ask? I'm glad you did!  All you have to do is to sign up for my free monthly newsletter, with the understanding that you can easily unsubscribe at any time. I usually only send out one email a month, the newsletter, but occasionally, if Stampin' Up! has a promotion that I didn't catch with my newletter at the beginning of the month, I will let my customers know about it when it happens. That's very rare.

To subscribe to my newsletter, which contains a free photo tutorial and a stamping tip each month, just enter your email address below and hit GO:

Flourishing Phrases Bundle for As You See It Challenges

I've go two very inspirational challenges to work from for today's card. First is As You See It Challenge #157, for which I had to design a DT sample!  It's a unique sketch challenge, unique as only Amanda can make it! The challenge is entitled Flower Frenzy, although you certainly don't have to use flowers on your design, but I immediately thought of an August garden, run riot! At the peak of it's glory, full bloom and full foliage, vines running amok and general gorgeousness before the autumn frosts begin! And the stamp set that that vision suggested to me was Flourishing Phrases along with the coordinating Flourish Thinlits!

But I needed a colour palette, and Color Throwdown has an absolutely gorgeous one this week! Check it out:

And when you throw all that in the hat, tap once with the magic wand, and say the magic words....
SHAZAAM!!:

  • I actually used the Flourish Thinlits more than the Flourishing Phrases stamp set on this card because they seemed made to order for this particular challenge. And if you have been reading my blog lately, you know I've been making good use of the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets with my intricate die cuts, by applying the adhesive sheet to the cardstock before die cutting and turning each die cut into a sticker which is simple to apply with no glue globs to worry about! Very easy to use! I'm sold!
  • I got out my Smoky Slate, Powder Pink and Daffodil Delight cardstock and ink to comply with the Color Throwdown challenge and I'm loving this combination! It's one to tuck away for further use later.
  • I stamped and hand cut the yellow flower three times, each time cutting a smaller and smaller layer and added them to the largest layer using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to add depth and dimension.
  • The sentiment is from Flourishing Phrases, but the bottom line "FROM ME" was masked out and then the top line was able to be punched out using the Classic Label Punch.
I hope you can take a little time to play along with Amanda's great sketch this weekend. Just upload your photo to a public site such as Pinterest, Splitcoast Stampers, or your own blog, copy the URL and paste it on the linky tool to enter! Have fun!

Just a reminder that time is running out to redeem your Bonus Days Coupons that you earned in July. You have until Aug. 31 to use them on all the great stuff in the Annual Catalogue or get the new Carols of Christmas Bundle! You'll be glad you did!!

You Move Me for Global Design Project

Over at Global Design Project, the challenge this week is an absolutely gorgeous colour combination that I couldn't ignore! I had to play along and I decided to make use of a really fun and unique stamp set and thinlit bundle called You Move Me, which has the unique feature of some images that actually appear to move when you raise and lower them behind the specially designed grid. I previously tried out the butterfly images here, but had not yet inked up the hummingbird, although hummingbirds are some of my favourite feathered friends. I thought that the colours in this week's challenge would really suit a hummingbird.  Here's the challenge banner:

And here's how my project turned out:

Now to get the full effect, you really have to see the action of the hummingbird in the grid so watch the short video below:

  • I die cut the grid in a 3 3/4" square of Bermuda Bay cardstock, then punched a thumbhold in it using a 3/4" circle punch so I could grip the 3 3/8" x 3 1/2" piece of Whisper White cardstock holding the special hummingbird motion image, stamped in Night of Navy ink, and move it up and down to make the wings appear to flutter.
  • The Bermuda Bay cardstock with the grid cut in it is mounted on the card front using Foam Adhesive Strips on the bottom and sides. This leaves room for the Whisper White piece to move up and down within it. When die-cutting the grid, it is imperative that you use the Precision Base Plate or you will not get a clean cut of the strips in the grid.
  • The Bermuda Bay hummingbird, all the flowers, leaves and sentiments are all images from the You Move Me Photopolymer stamp set and they all, except the sentiments, have framelits to die cut them using the Move Me Thinlits that are part of the bundle.
