Vintage Roots and Timely Reminders!

Well, it's July 30th and I'm in so much shock that summer is already half over! Where the heck did the time go? Right now it's incredibly hot and smoky where we live, so not so much fun outside, but hopefully that will all clear up soon. What we need is a good rain! Can someone please send some soon? Preferably without thunder and lightening, please!
I'm doing  a Technique class on Wednesday and Thursday evenings on vintage cards. We haven't done vintage techniques in quite a while, but it seems that elements of them are making a bit of a come-back, so I wanted to introduce these unique methods to a new generation of stampers. The card I'm sharing today is one of three samples that we will be doing at the class. I'd love to have you join us. To sign up, click the link at the top of the left hand menu on this page!

  • This card features a monochromatic look in Neutrals: Soft Suede, Sahara Sand and Copper.
  • I've used a design from the Nature's Poem Designer Series Paper which is part of the sales promotion that is still on for today and tomorrow only. See the details below and act fast!
  • I'm using up some retired Delicate White Doilies for this class, but you can purchase some current Pearlized Doilies that would do the same job.
  • The sentiment, from the Very Vintage Host Stamp Set, is embossed in Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder on a circle die cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits and stamped with an image from the same Very Vintage set. The image is stamped in Sahara Sand ink, stamped off once, for a fainter image that doesn't interfere with the sentiment.
  • Behind the circle, I've used glue dots to attach a selection of foliage stamped with images from the Rooted in Nature stamp set and die cut with the coordinating Nature's Root's Framelit Dies. (The stamp set and framelits can be bundled and purchased for a 10% savings) The leaves are stamped with Versamark ink and covered with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder and then heat set using the Heat Tool. The circle is added to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The little bow you see is made by taking a 6" length of Burlap Ribbon and cutting out the individual fibres and bunching 4 of them together to tie a bow. It's attached with a glue dot. The card is finished with some gold metallic pearls

Follow Your Obsessions for As You See It #181!

Friday again and another As You See It Challenge opens today! Challenge #181 is a favourite, fill in the blank challenge that anyone can do. It's easy...you just fill in the blank in the statement and then design and make a card based on your answer! Here is this week's challenge banner:

And what I'm totally obsessed with, ever since I saw it in the 2018/19 Annual Catalogue is the Follow Your Dreams suite with the Dreamcatchers! I love them - not so much the native meaning behind them. I never dream much anyway - well, not so that I remember. I love the design of them. The shapes, the feathers, the colours! When we were in Banff, we visited the Buffalo Museum there and the gift shop had a plethora of dreamcatchers of every size and shape. Ken had to pull me away before I bought one of each!!

Here's my design:

  • I love neutrals and muted pastels together. Here I've used:
  • You really can't tell from the photograph although I tried hard to get it to show up like it does IRL, but the Petal Pink layer has been embossed with the Subtle Dynamic Embossing Folder. It gives a very cool, texture - kind of like raw silk, or textured card stock. I wish you could see it in the photo here.
  • The Whisper White panel has been stamped with the herringbone wood texture stamp from the Gallery Grunge stamp set. I love the subtle texture it gives the background here.
  • I stamped the large dreamcatcher image from Follow Your Dreams in Gray Granite on anther piece of Whisper White and die cut it with the corresponding die from the Chase Your Dreams Framelits. I also die cut the mandela-like circle from some Gray Granite cardstock to glue over top of the stamped image. I stamped the single and double feather double images in Petal Pink, Smoky Slate, and Gray Granite to use to embellish the dream catcher. One die die cuts both the single and double feather images. I added them with Glue Dots.
  • The small pink mandela was stamped with a single stamp belonging to the Follow Your Dreams stamp set. There is not a corresponding die in the Chase Your Dreams set, so after hunting for awhile, I found the perfect fit in one of the old retired Circles Collection Framelits. I used a regular single holed paper punch to punch the hole in the middle. That was glued on to the dreamcatcher as well.
  • I die cut a couple of the large feathers from vellum and tied them on to the Grapefruit Grove Baker's Twine using some Silver Metallic thread. The sentiment is die cut from the same coordinating die set.
Time is Running Out

Only 5 days left in all the July Promos! Plus I'm adding one of my own! Make sure you don't miss out. Here's a run down of the promotions that will end on July 31st:

Here is one of my own that I'm adding:

The last one you have until Aug. 10 to sign up for, if you have never subscribed to Paper Pumpkin before:

Well, that's it! Have a great weekend!
