Happy Hibiscus for As You See It Challenge #351

happy hibiscus for aysi #351 1

As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I'm driven or motivated by colour, so colour challenges are some of my favourites (or not, depending on the combinations)! This week AYSI has a vibrant mix of colours that remind me of Hawaii. This palette was suggested by my team mate, Deborah, and I've named the challenge Tropical Floral. Here's the challenge banner:

(The other thing it reminds me of is watermelon, but that's another card.) I have had the Happy Hibiscus bundle for awhile, but haven't had a chance to use it, so at the fund raiser I held a few weeks ago, once I got a little breathing space, I actually got a chance to work on a couple of cards and this was one of them.

  • The card base is Basic White Thick cardstock 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".
  • The first panel is Basic White cardstock cut at 5 1/4" x 4", and embossed with the Happy Hibiscus 3D embossing folder.
  • I stamped the outlines of the hibiscus flowers and leaves in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and filled in the centers with Melon Mambo and Garden Green, respectively. Then they were die cut with the Happy Hibiscus dies.
  • The Peach Pie Plumeria flowers were die cut with dies from the Happy Hibiscus dies as well as the other leaves and were made from straight Peach Pie and Garden Green cardstock.
  • The sentiment was from the Happy Hibiscus stamp set and was stamped in Tuxedo Black ink and die cut with a banner from the Happy Hibiscus stamp set.
  • Everything was adhered to the card front, using Stampin' Seal and Dimensionals. The 2024-2026 In Colour Shimmer Gems form the center for some of the flowers. The ribbon under the sentiment is Peach Pie bordered ribbon.

Kintsugi Inspirations Suite for As You See It Challenge #350 - Triptych

kintsugi inspirations for aysi#350 1

Which are your favourite As You See It challenges? I think Sketch challenges are among my favourites, because they lay out the structure for my projects. In this challenge, #350, we get a trio of panels creating interest in the top of the card, so I named the sketch Triptych, which refers to a 3 panel art display. This sketch was designed by my Design Teammate Joanne.

challenge #350

I just happened to be at a crop fund raiser when I tackled this challenge, and we got a half pack of the Kintsugi Inspirations DSP to work with, so I decided to use some of that suite to create the card. Here's the result:

  • I used a card base of Azure Afternoon with a 4" x 5 1/4" panel of Lemon Lime Twist on top. The holes were cut with one of the retired Stitched Rectangle Dies spaced evenly across the top of the card.
  • Behind the rectangular openings is a piece of Kintsugi Inspirations DSP glued to the card base.
  • The sentiment, stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, is from the Inspiring Imperfections bundle, and is die cut using one of the Stylish Shapes dies.
  • The flowers are stamped with Petal Pink and Lemon Lime Twist and die cut using the Inspiring Imperfections dies. They are tucked in amongst the die cut rectangular openings.
  • The strip of 3/8" Gold Striped Mesh Ribbon takes the place of the twine bow in the sketch.
