Finally! Finally, I have found the occasion to use a bundle that is right up my alley - the Gears & Textures bundle! I love making masculine themed cards, I love steampunk and gears, etc., but even though I've had this set for a couple of months now (Maybe even more, the days fly by!) I haven't found the occasion to use it yet!! But this week at As You See It Challenges, it's a Fill In the Blank Challenge, designed by our team member, LeAnne, and she knows how to design a good challenge. Take a look at the Challenge Banner:

There are quite a few embossing folders that I would classify as favourites, but I don't currently have all of them. Of the ones I do have, this one has to rank pretty high: the Exposed Brick 3D Embossing Folder! And the distressed aspect of this folder works out perfectly for the Gears & Textures bundle! Things just progressed from there!

  • It starts with a card base of Early Espresso, 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".
  • A panel of Gray Granite, 5 1/4" x 4", is embossed using my favourite Exposed Brick 3D embossing folder. Then it is blended over with Gray Granite ink using a small blending brush. This shows up the texture better.
  • Several of the texture stamps are stamped on the front of the Gray Granite panel using Early Espresso ink, then the panel is glued to the front of the card.
  • Gears, chains and light bulbs are die cut using the Gears & Texture dies, from Gray Granite, Early Espresso and Crumb Cake cardstock, then they are adhered to the card front using glue, mini black dimensionals, and glue dots. A ruler line of Stampin' Write marker in Early Espresso makes the light bulb wires.
  • The sentiment is from a retired set and cut out on a straight piece of scrap cardstock.
