Merriest Trees for New at SU

 2023 hop banner

Welcome to our December NEW AT SU! Blog Hop! We love to share creative ideas from Stampin' Up! with you. Today we have projects featuring Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla, two neutrals. I'm using Merriest Trees to showcase these colours.

I associate Very Vanilla and Crumb Cake with rustic winter scenes, woolen scarves, mittens and blankets, snow and wooden structures. Cozy feelings. But when I looked over my current cache of products, the best set I had to use for winter was the Merriest Trees bundle. I decided to add the Distressed Gold Specialty paper to the mix as well for the stars and for some contrast and artistic flare.

  • The card base is Crumb Cake cardstock. On that is a layer of 5 1/4" x 4" Distressed Gold Specialty Paper centered, and centered on that is a 5" x 3 3/4" Very Vanilla cardstock.
  • I die cut the second largest tree section out of Crumb Cake. Then I die cut the tree smallest sections out of Crumb Cake cardstock, Very Vanilla cardstock and the Distressed Gold Specialty paper.
  • Mixing and matching as you see above, I constructed 2 trees from the pieces, using dimensionals to add on each successive layer for 3D effect.
  • I die cut all the stars from the Distressed Gold and added them to the sky as shown.
  • The sentiment, from the Merriest Trees stamp set, was embossed using gold embossing powder on a Very Vanilla flag and mounted on the card front with dimensionals.
  • Small gold coloured Blooming Pearls were added as embellishments.

Stargazing Suite for As You See It Challenge #313

stargazing suite for aysi #313 1

Welcome to the last As You See It Challenge of 2023! This is a speed stamping challenge, created by fellow Design Team member, Deborah. A speed challenge means you have to design and create your card in 10 minutes or less. You can plan it all out and gather your materials, but the minute you start cutting or stamping, you must start your timer. It's a fun challenge that really gets the adrenaline pumping! The theme for this speed challenge is Stars! Perfect for the season, but there's lots you can do with it!

challenge #313
The first thing I thought about was the O Holy Night Suite from the Sept/Dec Mini Catalogue, but since I figured that everyone else would also be thinking of that, I decided to go back to the Annual Catalogue to the Stargazing Suite and leave the holiday themes to the others.

  • On a card base of Night of Navy cardstock I added two pieces of the Stargazing DSP, one in Berry Burst, measuring 4" x 5 1/4", and one in Blueberry Bushel, moved to the right end, measuring 4" x 3 7/8". This  created a Berry Burst column on the left side.
  • Then I centered a Blueberry Bushel "Galaxy" design piece of DSP, measuring  4 3/4" x 3 1/4" on the card front and adhered it down.
  • I embossed the sentiment from the Reach for the Stars stamp set in White embossing powder on Brushed Gold Metallic cardstock and die cut it using the second smallest Deckled Circle die.
  • I folded the Night of Navy & Gold 1/2" Glittered Ribbon over itself and adhered it to the card front in the bottom left corner, then added the sentiment using Dimensionals over top.
  • The last step was adding some Adhesive Backed Star Trinkets.
I completed my card in 8 minutes and 48 minutes by the timer:

Winter Meadow Suite for As You See It Challenge #312 - The Most Wonderful Time

winter meadow suite for aysi #312 1

This week at As You See It Challenges, we have a Theme Challenge, created by our lovely Team Member, Joanne, and the theme is Christmas - the most wonderful time of the year. I have been making a lot of Christmas cards lately and I haven't been posting all of them, but this one is my favourite, because it uses my favourite suite from the 2023 Sept/Dec Mini Catalogue, the Winter Meadow Suite. Let me share it with you now. Here's the challenge banner:

challenge #312

So, the only requirement is that the card has to have a Christmas theme, but I wanted to bring out some of the most wonderful things about the season as well. Part of what makes the Winter Meadow suite my favourite is the colours, and I really like those blues and greens and whites as opposed to the traditional reds and greens of the season. Check out my usual Christmas tree decor:

So here are the directions for making my card:

  • I started with a card base of Basic White Thick cardstock measuring 5" x 10" and scored at 5" so when folded on the score line, gave me a 5" square card front.
  • I added a 4 3/4" square piece of Blueberry Bushel, which, by the way, is such an appealing colour of blue. I used to dismiss it as being too primary, but it really has an undertone of teal in it, which rescues it from that fate!
  • On top of that I added a layer of Basic White, 4 5/8" square, embossed using the Merry Melody 3D EF. Music is a huge part of what I love about Christmas. I have some very particular Christmas favourites including Mary Did You Know by Kathy Mattea, I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day by Casting Crowns, and Enya's Emmanuel. Oh, and I can't forget This Baby by Steven Curtis Chapman.
  • The next layer is a 3 1/2" square of more Blueberry Bushel, and on top of that is a 3 1/4" square of the Winter Meadow DSP.
  • I used a twist of the White 1/2" Iridescent Ribbon under the sentiment which is from the Magical Meadow stamp set, and it's die cut with a die from the Natural Prints Die set.
  • Adhered behind the die are foliage die cuts from the Magical Meadow Die set, in Pretty Peacock, Garden Green and vellum.
This is not a difficult card to make, but does require a square envelope larger than the regular ones SU sells, unfortunately. I was able to find some inexpensive ones on Amazon. If you only need one or two, you could make your own.
