All About Autumn for As You See It Challenge #308

all about autumn for aysi #308 1

It's time for one of my two favourite kinds of challenges over at As You See It this week: a sketch challenge. (My other favourite is the colour challenge!) Heather H. came up with a really good sketch! It's so balances and any card you make with it will look amazing, trust me. Here's the challenge banner:

challenge #308

I was thinking about using the Winter Meadow Suite for this one, but the more I played around with it, the less suited I found it, so I switched to the All About Autumn Suite. I wanted to show the switch to warmth and indoor activities like curling up in a big leather chair in front of a fire and reading a good book with a knitted throw rug covering you. It was hard to fit all that in of course, but I managed to get the knitted throw rug and the leather chair in there as mattes for the leaves and shelved books respectively.

  • I used a Moody Mauve base and covered it to within 1/8" of the edges with a dese All About Autumn DSP, the used the largest square die to die cut a bign from one of the patterns from All About Autumn DSP.
  • I added the narrow rectangle of autumn leaves from the All About Autumn DSP and backed it with a rectangle 1/4" larger on both sides, cut from the knitted blanket pattern.
  • I used the second largest Stylish Shape Square Die to die cut the books from thacking for it from the leather furniture pattern of the All About Autumn DSP.
  • The sentiment was stamped with Early Espresso on Moody Mauve and die cut with the largest flag die from Stylish Shapes.
  • I wrapped linen thread around one end of the sentiment flag, and tied it in a secure bow, then I added the whole flag to the card front using dimensionals.
  • The last step was adding some Adhesive Backed Speckled Dots to embellish. (See Photo)

Crafting With You for As You See It Challenge #307

crafting with you for aysi #307 1

It's speed stamping time again over at As You See It Challenges and this time the theme is Hobbies, courtesy of yours truly! As a reminder, a Speed Stamping Challenge is where you have only 10 minutes to make a card, using the theme given!

Here is the Challenge Banner:

challenge #307

The obvious hobby to make the card about would be stamping, but I thought I would choose a different one. I have a side hobby that I love, but never get enough time for, and that's watercolour painting. Luckily, the Crafting With You bundle covers that hobby as well. Check it out:

  • I thought that the new Brushed Gold cards and envelopes from the upcoming Sept/Dec Mini Catalogue would be a great card base for this because the brushed gold looks just like painted brush strokes.
  • On a piece of Basic White cardstock I stamped the easel in Crumb Cake ink, then I took the flower image and coloured it in using Stampin' Write markers in Moody Mauve, Misty Moonlight and Parakeet Party, and stamped on the canvas. I used a Blender Pen to move the ink a bit to give it more of a water colour effect.
  • I die cut the easel and mounted it on the card front using dimensionals.
  • I stamped the sentiment and the brushes in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The brushes have a coordinating die in the Crafting with You dies, and I used the largest Stylish Shapes flag die for the sentiment.
  • I added some Elegant Trim in gold around the end of the sentiment and mounted it using dimensionals after adhering the paintbrushes to the back on the right.
  • At this point I had 13 seconds left. I could leave it or add some bling in the form of the new Blooming Pearls from the Sept/Dec Mini. I decided to go for it and placed the last gold pearl just as the timer dinged.
So it took me the whole 10 minutes to complete my card, but I could have left the embellishments off and it would have been plainer but faster.

Yes, the new Sept/Dec Mini Catalogue is now open for customer ordering and I'm sure you'll agree it's one of the best catalogues we've had for a long time! You're going to find it hard to choose just one thing, or even two or three. To see what's available click on the link below the cover photo for the digital PDF. And leave me a message if you'd like a hard copy!
