Beautiful Promenade for As You See It Challenge

My eyes are heavy as I'm writing this blog post. Earlier today we took our Syrian refugee family on a field trip to show them how to use the bus system in our city. To be honest, it's been a really long time since I used the bus system myself, so it was a learning curve for me too! And it involved a lot of walking, which is really good for me, but hoo, boy, am I tired tonight!! I managed to stay awake long enough to create this card, though, for the next As You See It Challenge, which happens to be a colour challenge this time! I love colour challenges, especially this one, which we are sub-titling Warmth!

I had a favourite herbal tea called Warmth and it was an Orange Cinnamon flavoured concoction that I loved and this reminds me of it and of a sunny day in the garden and of this stamp set, Beautiful Promenade!

This stamp set reminds me a little of one of my old favourites, Everything Eleanor, so I had to have it. I love the shape of the large flowers and I love that you can fill the outlines with the striped fillers. Then there's the beautiful sentiments! It's a wow set for me and it is a bundle along with coordinating Beautiful Layers thinlits!

Here's how my Design Team sample turned out:

  • I took the challenge colour palette and added a neutral - Crumb Cake - to it, to ease the intensity of the colours a little without making the background stark white. I embossed the piece of Crumb Cake cardstock using the Simple Stripes embossing folder, and wrapped some 3/8" Basic Black Shimmer Ribbon around it, fastening it at either end underneath.
  • I created layers with a Basic Black card base, a 5 1/4" x 4" Whisper White layer, then a 5" x 3 3/4" layer of Crushed Curry cardstock and finally a 4 7/8" x  3 5/8" layer of Flirty Flamingo.
  • The flowers were created using the Stamparatus. Did you know you can order that through this catalogue now? I stamped the outline stamp, by placing it on one flap, inking it in either Memento Tuxedo Black ink or Flirty Flamingo ink and stamping it on Whisper White. I then placed the striped filler image stamp face down on this image matching it exactly to the stamped image and picked up the stamp with the other flap. It was then inked up with either Flirty Flamingo ink or Crushed Curry ink and stamped right over top of the outline. It was a perfect match up!
  • The little flowers were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured in with Flirty Flamingo and Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Markers.

  • Everything was die cut with the matching dies from the Beautiful Layers Thinlits and added to the card front. The large flowers were shaped a bit with the bonefolder for more 3D look. I added them with Glue Dots and Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from the same set and it's punched out from Whisper White card stock with the Everyday Label Punch. Don't you love that sentiment??

Little Twinkle for The Paper Players

How much fun is it when you have a whole bunch of new stamp sets that you love, Designer Series Paper that you adore AND a whole bunch of new colours to play with and combine? I'll tell you! It's more fun than popping an acre of bubble wrap! Yesterday, after finally getting around to cleaning up my Craft Cave again, I pulled out another new bundle, the Little Twinkle Bundle along with the coordinating Twinkle, Twinkle Designer Series Paper and had some more fun! This bundle has a stamp set and a punch instead of dies.

For the layout, I used the latest challenge from The Paper Players. Here's the sketch:

It seemed like it would be a good fit with the Little Twinkle stamp set, and the DSP made designing the different panels a bit easier.

  • Another new colour combination arose from this card using several of the new colours from our Colour Revamp! If you are keen on getting more of those colours at a good bargain, make sure you read about the amazing offer at the bottom of this post!
  • The two samples of DSP on the card are from the Twinkle, Twinkle collection and are two sides of the same piece actually. The Gray Granite one in the background is a wonderful multipurpose design in a neutral that I am falling in love with. Look how well it coordinates with the Night of Navy, Silver, Petal Pink and Soft Sea Foam - not to mention the Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder!
  • The sentiment is from the Little Twinkle stamp set and I heat embossed it in silver on Whisper White and quickly added a little watercolour background with Petal Pink. When you watercolour on Whisper White, you can't use much water and you can only paint quickly and go over it once, or the paper fibers begin to break down. It's not really meant for watercolouring, but you can get away with it under the conditions I outlined above.
  • The little circle with the moon and stars is created using the coordinating Twinkle Builder Punch. From a sparkly piece of Shimmery White cardstock, which I had watercoloured using an Aqua Painter and Soft Sea Foam and Pool Party ink and then dried, I punched out the moon and three stars. (Actually, you can't help but punch out more stars, but I only used the three largest.) I punched the same from some Silver Foil Sheets. I matched up and adhered the watercoloured punched images to the same foil images, making sure they were offset a little to give a shadow effect, and mounted them on a Night of Navy circle (punched with a 1 3/4" circle punch). The moon and two largest stars are popped up on Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • A little bow of Silver and Whisper White Baker's Twine adds the finishing touch.

And now for that screaming deal I was telling you about! How would you like to get 10 of our new stamp pads for free? From July 1st - July 31st, if you purchase the Stampin' Up! starter kit and join my team, not only do you get an already fantastic deal of paying $135 for $165 worth of your choice of any Stampin' Up! products with free shipping, with the bonus of ongoing 20% discounts for as long as you keep your demonstrator status (a guarantee of at least 4 months), but for the month of July, you will get 10 Ink pads in one colour family free!
