Everything Eleanor Open Frame Card Tutorial

Of all the stamp sets that I love that are retiring, there is one set that I am sending off with tears in my eyes. One that I fell in love with the moment I saw it and it breaks my heart to see it go far too soon: Everything Eleanor!

I love the flourish - it's one of the best ever and has graced the background of many a card. That worn label has been stamped and fussy cut so many time. Then there are those beautiful flowers. You can stamp them and hand trim them and decorate them with pearls, or emboss and watercolour. They are so pretty!

So today I decided to use it for one last time (but maybe not!)

If you like this set as much as I do, I have a free tutorial for you, so that you can make this card. To get the tutorial, all you have to do is sign up for my free monthly newsletter, with the understanding that you may unsubscribe at any time.

Zoo Babies Baptism Card for The Paper Players

Sometime soon we are travelling to my sister's place and going to the baptism of my second great nephew, Logan, the son of my niece, Katie.  Here's the little guy here:

I am so looking forward to meeting him and spending some time with my sisters. It's going to be fun! But, of course I had to make a card for the baptism and I thought I'd use the layout from The Paper Player's Challenge this week: (And Linda Callahan, I didn't copy you, I promise! I only really saw your card when I had finished mine!)

I also wanted to feature more of the retiring products from the old Annual Catalogue and the perfect stamp set is Zoo Babies! I also have a lot of Designer Series Paper left this year so I welcomed the chance to use some of it in this design:

  • I used Sweet L'il Things Designer Series Paper along with the colour palette from the set, so Hello Honey, Pool Party, Tangelo Twist and Tip Top Taupe all got to shine here.
  • I think this giraffe is my favourite image from Zoo Babies. I inked him up here in Hello Honey and added the Tip Top Taupe accents right onto the stamp with a Stampin' Write Marker.
  • The sentiment is from another retiring stamp set, Trust God. This was, of course, very appropriate for a baptism.
  • I made great use of the Circles Collection Framelits and the 2 3/8" Scallop Circle Punch, which is retiring. The little heart was punched with one of the three punches in the retiring Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.
  • The lettering for "Logan's Baptism" was done with the Alphabet Rotary Stamp, which is also gone for good after May 31, but I am planning to hang on to mine, because it's really handy when you want to make your own sentiments!
Thanks for dropping by! Have a great day!

African Sunset with Serene Silhouettes

It's been a long time since I made a square card, but I decided to go for it  today after seeing Mojo Monday's Sketch Challenge for a round or square card.

And in keeping with my plan to showcase retiring stamp sets and other retiring products, today I decided to use the Serene Silhouettes stamp set, another one of my favourites. One of the trees in the set reminds me of the African Plains and so I decided to do a sunset design kind of like these:

My colour palette is a striking one using Watermelon Wonder, Basic Gray and Whisper White.

Here it is:

  •  I love the look of all the layers in this design and I love the two colours and white look. Basic Gray just makes the Watermelon Wonder pop!
  • It's another chance (Yay!) to use the gorgeous Watermelon Wonder Stitched Satin ribbon that is retiring soon.
  • The image panel is actually Whisper White that was inked in Watermelon Wonder using a brayer and a mask for the sun. The current brayer is retiring in favour of a new design, but I really like the firm surface of the current ones and will be hanging on to the ones I have.
  • I found that after doing the brayering, I could add some variety and interest using an Aqua Painter to remove some of the ink and draw it into the sun, looking like clouds!
  • I stamped the image from Serene Silhouettes and the sentiments in Basic Gray Archival ink. Doesn't that tree look African to you? The sentiment is from the Petite Pairs stamp set, another retiree come June. I like how all the sentiments in the set come in pairs, which is also great for having an inside message. The sentiments are really varied, too, so that they cover a lot of different occasions.
  • All the Scallop Circle punches will be retiring. I haven't used them a lot lately, but when I do, I remember why I have them all!! lol
