Memorable Blooms for As You See It Challenge #341

memorable blooms for aysi #341 1

Today's card is for As You See It Challenge #341 which is a Recipe Challenge, which requires you to make a card using all five elements in the recipe. Our team mate, Jan C., came up with this beauty, and it has been fun to work with:

challenge #341

I was thinking spring and pastel colours, so I decided to use a new bundle from the Jan - Apr Mini Catalogue, called the Memorable Blooms bundle. Here's my first result:

I don't mind telling you, I had a bit of a struggle with it! I knew I wanted to use the hexagon die to make an opening and to emboss the large flower swag and colour it in, but I didn't know whether or not to leave the card front all white or to add some of the Wildflower Birthday DSP to the front as well as behind the hexagonal opening. I also couldn't decide whether to emboss the flower swag in white or gold. Here is the other option. Which do you like better?

In the end, I opted for the less busy, white one, but I think I liked the flowers embossed in gold better.

Elements of Text for As You See It Challenge #340

elements of text for aysi challenge #340

For our next As You See It Challenge of 2025, we have a Fill in the Blank Challenge. For this type of challenge, you fill in the blank to complete the sentence, then make your card or project based on the words you used to fill in the blank. Here's the Challenge Banner:

challenge #340

This was a timely seasonal challenge, created by teammate, Heather H.
I completed the sentence with the words: to enter more card challenges, so I looked around to see which challenge I would be able to enter that coincided with our posting date, and found I would just be able to squeak into the Paper Players challenge this week. Here's their banner:

Now, as soon as I checked their banner again, I realized it was a CLEAN & SIMPLE Challenge, and my card is anything but clean and simple! So I don't think I can enter it. But the letter theme did prove to be an inspiration and I really enjoyed getting creative with it! Oh, well! I'll read the banners better next time!
Let's take a look at the card again to see what I did:

  • I used a base of Pecan Pie to make a gate-fold base the vertical way, cutting the base at 4 1/4" x 11", then scoring along the 11" edge at 2 3/4" and 8 1/4" to make the top and bottom flaps.
  • Using a Deckled Rectangle die I cut away a bit of the inside edge of the flaps to give them a distressed look. Then I used a Sponge Dauber and Pecan Pie ink to add an aged look to all the edges, inside and out. The flaps were also distressed with the bone folder to curl the corners and separate the layers of the cardstock.
  • With the Perennial Postage dies I die cut some of the Nature's Sweetness DSP patterns for the top and bottom panels. The Perennial Postage dies were either too big or too small so I used one too big, then modified the cut. These were also sponged with Pecan Pie or Pebbled Path around the edges, depending on their colour, then adhered to the flaps.

  • On the inside I layered one panel of the Nature's Sweetness Specialty DSP and one layer of Very Vanilla cardstock, both die cut with different sizes of the Deckled Rectangle Dies. I stamped the Very Vanilla panel with images of the text and ink spatters from the Elements of Text stamp set, using Pebbled Path ink. It was inked around the edges with Pecan Pie. The DSP behind was sponged with Pebbled Path.
  • The bottom flap was held in place using a retired Floral Romance Seal. It needed help from some glue dots to stick properly. The edge of the top flap tucks underneath.
  • I didn't add a sentiment, but anything would work, so you could take your choice. I would add it to the bottom panel. The back of the card has a place to write your greetings.
