Free As A Bird for GDP and The Paper Player

Oh, my goodness, I so rarely have the chance to enter one challenge, but today I get to enter two! I'm so excited! I just got home from visiting my youngest daughter for a week along with her hubby and my two grandsons, Parker and Jackson! But, after arriving home at 5 pm and unpacking and cleaning up after my cats, who had been mostly on their own for a week, except for my neighbour who came in to feed them, I still had a card to make and an order to prepare for delivery! It was so nice to have a couple of challenges to inspire me.

The first challenge was the Global Design Project Challenge #191 and their theme challenge was Bees, Birds and Butterflies:

So, I decided to use one of the new sets that comes in the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue, (which you will be able to purchase from in 3 more sleeps), *Free As A Bird. This cling stamp set is part of the *Bird Ballad Suite and I actually used some of the *Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper on my card as well.

*These products will be available in the 2019 - 2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue, starting June 4, 2019.

The next challenge I am entering is a sketch challenge from The Paper Players #443:

This sketch was created by my fellow As You See It Design Team member, LeAnne Pugliese, so I was excited and challenged by it!

Here's what I came up with:

  • On a base of Basic Gray, I added a panel of Crumb Cake embossed with the Layered Leaves 3D Embossing Folder. Something we just learned from Stampin' Up! is that the new 3D Embossing Folders by our new manufacturer will be quite a bit thinner than the old ones and will require a new Embossing plate to make up that difference in thickness. It will be $13.50 and will be available in early June.
  • A strip of *Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper in Petal Pink is added to the left side of the card front.
  • I stamped the single bird image in Memento ink on some Whisper White along with a sprig of leaves, the three flowers and the sentiment, all from the Free As A Bird stamp set.
  • I stamped the same bird image and leaf sprig image on to a Silicone Craft sheet  in Memento ink and then pressed the Whisper White cardstock on top of it and pressed well all over top of the images. The ink transferred to the cardstock, but the image is reversed.
  • All the images were coloured in using Stampin' Blends Combos in the following colours:  Smoky Slate, Petal Pink, Mossy Meadow, and Calypso Coral. The images were then all fussy cut, except for the sentiment which was punched out with the new *Timeless Label Punch.
  • I repunched the ends of the sentiment so that it would be shorter and then could be matted with a full-sized *Timeless Label Punch in Petal Pink.
  • All the images were arrange and adhered on the card front using glue or Mini Stampin' Dimensionals. I used some retiring **Share What You Love Artisan Pearls, plus some regular Pearl Basic Jewels, coloured with Stampin' Blends in Petal Pink and Calypso Coral for the finishing embellishments.
*These products will be available in the 2019 - 2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue, starting June 4, 2019.
**These products will be retiring and no longer available in the 2019 - 2020 Annual Catalogue starting June 4, 2019.

Elsa for Pippa's Third Birthday!

My youngest grandchild will be turning 3 years old soon and, like most three year old girls, she is enamoured with Frozen and Elsa and Anna. We got her a Frozen Lego set for her birthday, as she and her brother are very much into playing with Lego right now, but I wanted to see if I could make an Elsa with Punch Art. Again, I searched Pinterest for someone who had already done the deed, so I could easily copy it, as I was pressed for time, but alas, there was nothing there that really looked like Elsa, so I was on my own again. I did find a picture there to work from:

Then I went through my stash of punches to find ones that would work to make the different elements of Elsa's features. Here's how it turned out:

  • I was pretty pleased with the way it turned out, especially with her hair and the braid! I will never get rid of the **Fox Builder Punch because that fox tail has helped me create hair so many times and it was instrumental in me being able to make that great braid, by weaving those fox tails together, and trimming one pair down to a narrower size so that the braid tapers. Because Elsa's hair is so platinum blonde I used a combination of Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstock to create it. The very tip of the braid is one of the 3 leaves on the Leaf Punch.
  • Elsa's head shape was closest to and big enough for the **Lemon Builder Punch with the wider bump at the top and the narrower one at the chin. I also trimmed off the "jowls" a bit. Lol!
  • The nose is what's punched out when you punch the hole for the Detailed Trio Punch. The mouth is created using two punches with the **Lemon Builder Punch at the "chin end".
  • The eyes needed shaping and are time consuming but they are started in Whisper White with the 1/2" punch and shaped exactly alike, one used to trace the other. Her neck is one of the vases from the Vases Builder Punch and her shoulders and upper chest is the Pretty Label Punch, in Powder Pink.
  • Her dress is made from Sparkle Glimmer Paper and coloured with Stampin' Blends, Light Pool Party and Light Mint Macaron. The shoulders and front are an arc double punched with the Story Label punch. Her arms attach underneath and are also punched from Sparkle Glimmer Paper with the Word Window Punch - which is another I will never give up, just for this purpose.

  • The bodice of the dress is a heart - an old retired punch which I kept because it's so handy, and the bottom is the Story Label punch on end again.
  • The greeting is from a retiring stamp set **Vertical Greeting, and I added Pip's name using the Make a Difference stamp set. The 3 is from an old retired die set called ***Little Numbers. (Nope, not letting that one go either!!)
  • The final touch is a few Iridescent Sequins around the card and a retired snowflake ornament on the bodice.
  • Oops, forgot the eyebrows! They're made from the top of the ***Owl Builder punch, punched twice in a thin slice and cut in half to make 2 eyebrows.
*These products will be available in the 2019 - 2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue, starting June 4, 2019.

Here's the birthday girl now:

Aren't those blonde curls adorable? Don't be fooled though. She's pretty tough and fearless!

June's Paper Pumpkin is all about Random Acts of Kindness! How cool is that?
