Elements of Text for As You See It Challenge #340

elements of text for aysi challenge #340

For our next As You See It Challenge of 2025, we have a Fill in the Blank Challenge. For this type of challenge, you fill in the blank to complete the sentence, then make your card or project based on the words you used to fill in the blank. Here's the Challenge Banner:

challenge #340

This was a timely seasonal challenge, created by teammate, Heather H.
I completed the sentence with the words: to enter more card challenges, so I looked around to see which challenge I would be able to enter that coincided with our posting date, and found I would just be able to squeak into the Paper Players challenge this week. Here's their banner:

Now, as soon as I checked their banner again, I realized it was a CLEAN & SIMPLE Challenge, and my card is anything but clean and simple! So I don't think I can enter it. But the letter theme did prove to be an inspiration and I really enjoyed getting creative with it! Oh, well! I'll read the banners better next time!
Let's take a look at the card again to see what I did:

  • I used a base of Pecan Pie to make a gate-fold base the vertical way, cutting the base at 4 1/4" x 11", then scoring along the 11" edge at 2 3/4" and 8 1/4" to make the top and bottom flaps.
  • Using a Deckled Rectangle die I cut away a bit of the inside edge of the flaps to give them a distressed look. Then I used a Sponge Dauber and Pecan Pie ink to add an aged look to all the edges, inside and out. The flaps were also distressed with the bone folder to curl the corners and separate the layers of the cardstock.
  • With the Perennial Postage dies I die cut some of the Nature's Sweetness DSP patterns for the top and bottom panels. The Perennial Postage dies were either too big or too small so I used one too big, then modified the cut. These were also sponged with Pecan Pie or Pebbled Path around the edges, depending on their colour, then adhered to the flaps.

  • On the inside I layered one panel of the Nature's Sweetness Specialty DSP and one layer of Very Vanilla cardstock, both die cut with different sizes of the Deckled Rectangle Dies. I stamped the Very Vanilla panel with images of the text and ink spatters from the Elements of Text stamp set, using Pebbled Path ink. It was inked around the edges with Pecan Pie. The DSP behind was sponged with Pebbled Path.
  • The bottom flap was held in place using a retired Floral Romance Seal. It needed help from some glue dots to stick properly. The edge of the top flap tucks underneath.
  • I didn't add a sentiment, but anything would work, so you could take your choice. I would add it to the bottom panel. The back of the card has a place to write your greetings.

New at SU!: Friendly Seagulls Coordination

new at su banner

Welcome to our January NEW AT SU! Blog Hop! We love to share creative ideas from Stampin' Up!®️ with you. Today we have cards featuring the products from the new Sale-A-Bration brochure teamed up with other current products. I chose the adorable Friendly Seagulls stamp set, which is a Sale-A-Bration stamp set and teamed it with another seaside product, the Friends of the Ocean Designer Series Paper.

For this card, I decided to use a variation of the side step fun fold to add more visual interest. This version I got from Connie Stewart, and it is much easier than the original version of the fun fold.

For the card:
  • I started with a cardstock base in Lemon Lime Twist, measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored along the long edge at 1 1/4", 2 1/2" and 5 1/2". The folds were done accordion style to form a z shape.
  • I cut another Lemon Lime piece at 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" and scored it along the long edge at 4 1/4". Fold to form a V.
  • On the z fold card, I cut two pieces of the Friends of the Ocean DSP, one 1" x 5 1/4", and one 2 3/4" x 5 1/4" to cover to two front facing surfaces, and adhered them.
  • On the v fold card I cut some Basic White cardstock at 2 3/4" x 3 1/2" and some Friends of the Ocean DSP as a backing at 3 1/4" x 4". I used the images from the Friendly Seagulls stamp set that you see to stamp the Basic White Cardstock, then coloured it using Stampin' Blends markers in Lost Lagoon, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight and Crumb Cake. On a separate piece of cardstock I stamped and coloured two more seagulls, fussy cut them, and mounted them on the side steps using glue dots.
  • I adhered the stamped panel and DSP backing on the front of the v fold card then glued it to the z fold card on the right hand side.
  • I cut a 2 1/4" x 5" piece of Basic White cardstock to be the message panel for the back of the card, with a backing of DSP measuring 2 3/4" x 5 1/2". This was stamped with the images you see and coloured with Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake and Summer Splash Stampin' Blends markers, then affixed to the back of the card.

Magnolia Mood Dies for As You See It Challenge #339

magnolia mood dies for aysi #339 1

It feels like forever since I last wrote a blog post. We've had a bit of a hiatus over at As You See It Challenges, but we're back now and the first challenge of 2025 is a colour challenge, chosen by yours truly. Take a look at our challenge banner to see the colour palette I chose:

challenge #339

The challenge is entitled Winter Frost, thanks to the inspiration photo, but the colours are Berry Burst, Basic Gray, Smoky Slate and Peach Pie.
I picked out the Magnolia Mood bundle for this one because I felt the colours would look good with the images, but when I went to colour them in with my Stampin' Blends markers, I found that my Light Smoky Slate marker was dry. So, instead, I decided to use the dies to create the images using a kind of paper piecing technique. By the way, this bundle is on the Last Chance list as long as supplies last.

Here's how it turned out:

I die cut the image 4 times, once in each of the colours in the challenge. Using the Berry Burst image as the base, I cut out the flower centers from the Peach Pie die cut and glued it on the flower centers. I cut out all the Smoky Slate leaves from the larger die cut and glued them over the leaves on the Berry Burst die cut, matching them exactly. I cut out all the solid leaves on the Basic Gray large die cut and glued those over the Smoky Slate solid leaves on the large die cut.  I die cut some individual loose leaves in Smoky Slate and Basic Gray and used those behind the smaller die cut.

The sentiment is from the Magnolia Mood stamp set and I stamped it in Berry Burst ink and die cut it with a banner from the Stylish Shapes dies, then added it to the card front with dimensionals.

It's Sale-A-Bration Time:
