Relaxing Waterside for As You See It Challenge #378 - Summer Days

 I'm ready for a Theme Challenge, how about you? And what's more appropriate than Summer Days, at least for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere! For those of you down under, you will have to dream of warmer days as you slog through winter, but at least you're headed in the right direction! Here's the challenge banner:

When I think of summer days, beaches, good books, Adirondack chairs, and maybe a good drink of something! Not tea for me, although that's something that my hubby would enjoy. Seagulls crying overhead, and the beach scented air keeping you cool, even in the heat.

Naturally, I got out my Relaxing Waterside bundle along with the accompanying Waterside Retreat DSP to come up with a card. I wanted a diorama kind of effect, so I ended up using a "step fold card". Here's what it looks like from the side:

And it can fold flat to fit in a regular medium envelope:

• I started with a base of Basic White 12" x 12" cardstock, cut at 5 1/2" x 11". Then I scored it on the long side at 3", 6", 7 1/2", 9" & 10". Burnish each score line into zigzag folds.
• On the outside of the smallest one in front, add, from the front of the Waterside Retreat DSP pack, the beach picture, as shown, trimmed down to the horizon, fussy cutting the grass that goes beyond the horizon, and mounting it first on a piece of Basic White cardstock measuring 2 1/2" x 5 1/2", then gluing to the first step.
• On the front of the middle step, take a 4" x 5 1/2" piece of the seagull design paper (as shown) from the same DSP pack, mount it on a piece of Basic White with the same dimensions, then glue it on the front of the second step.
• On the last step, use the wood plank design from the DSP pack, cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" (with the wood planks oriented horizontally). Adhere that piece to a piece of Basic White cardstock of the same dimensions, and adhere to the last step. On the back you can add some sentiments and images if you like to decorate where you will write your greetings.
• Create a sentiment on a piece of the wood plank DSP measuring 3/4" x 3". Stamp the sentiment in Memento Jet Black ink in the center then punch the arrow ends and mount with dimensionals on the middle panel.
• Die cut 2 adirondack style chairs using the Relaxing Waterside dies and assemble them. I used Coastal Cabana and Daffodil Delight cardstock. I stamped the book and the cup of coffee or tea and die cut them and attached them to the arms of the chairs.
• I mounted the chairs to the card front using mini dimensionals, doubling up the dimensionals on the right side of the yellow chair the the left side of the Coastal Cabana chair to give the impression that they are partly facing each other.
• I added an anchor trinket with linen thread pulled through and tied in a bow on the right side of the sentiment with a glue dot.

Waterside Retreat for Challenge #372 - Beach Combing

I wanted a chance to use my new suite from the May - August catalogue, Waterside Retreat. I was particularly intrigued by the first pages of the DSP that have several different individual card fronts on them. Most are beach scenes of some kind, but I picked the best one for a Beach Combing theme and mounted it on a Gray Granite card base.

This theme was chosen by myself for the As You See It Team for Challenge #372, because I'm a coastal design lover! Take a look at the Challenge Banner:

To get the full idea of the card, you will need two photos:

• I'm not sure what to call this fun fold: Maybe a peek-a-boo fun fold??Basically, a flap is folded over the card front from the top, whether it's a vertical or horizontal orientation. It has a window in it to reveal some of the scene behind it, but it also covers up some of the scene as well. When it's opened it reveals a sentiment and some additional surprises behind it.
• This card base still opens as a regular card with an interior to write your own greetings in.
• Start with a Gray Granite card base, 4 1/4" x 11", scored on the long edge at 5 1/2". Fold on the score line and burnish.
• On the card front add one of the card fronts from the Waterside Retreat DSP. This one is cut at 4" x 5 1/4". If it's too small, cut a piece of background design, like the green plaid, or blue stripes at 4" x 5 1/4", add to the card front, then center the card front.
• Cut a piece of Gray Granite 4 1/2" x 4" and score on the 4 1/2" side at 1". Cover with a piece of the Waterside Retreat DSP that's the woodgrain design. If your card front is landscape orientation,  have the wood pieces running across horizontally in a 4" x 4 1/2" direction.  If your card front is portrait orientation, have the wood pieces running across horizontally in a 4 1/2" x 4"  direction. Fold the piece on the 1" score line and burnish. Round all the edges with a corner rounder punch.
• If your card front is landscape, you will be gluing the attachment over the top of your card, so use the Rounded Rectangle punch to punch a window in your piece with the bottom of the piece hitting the bottom of the punch and horizontally finding a strategic spot to be seen through the window. Leave room on the sides to attach the chair and the tall grasses.
• If your card front is portrait, you will be gluing the attachment around the right side of your card, so use the Rounded Rectangle punch to punch a window in your piece, with the bottom of it hitting the bottom of the punch and finding a strategic spot to be seen through the hole you're punching. Again, leave room for the chair and long grasses on either side.
• Keep the punched out piece as a backing for your sentiment.
• Die cut the three pieces of the Adirondack chair from Pecan Pie cardstock. Assemble and add to the left side of the hole using glue and mini-dimensionals.  
• Stamp the grasses with Mossy Meadow and die cut. Add to the left of the hole using mini-dimensionals.
• Stamp the sentiment in Pool Party, punch it out with an oval punch and mount it on the backing of the Rounded Rectangular punch. Glue on the card where it will be hidden by the top piece. Die cut some shells with the dies from the Rolling Waves dies and add to the beach.
• I fussy cut a small float and added it to the grasses on the beach.
• To hold the addition closed, I used a stack of 2 mini dimensionals on the bottom edge of an anchor trinket so the edge could be tucked underneath. 
• Finish the card inside as you like it.

Filled with Sweetness for As You See It Challenge #366

We have a Theme Challenge over at As You See It Challenges this week, and the theme is CANDY! How appropriate for the closest challenge to Valentine's Day! We can all thank the ever-creative Heather H. for that! Initially, I had a hard time finding something that worked for the candy theme, because I had no candy stamps, but then I found some retired Vintage Bottle Shaker Domes that I thought I could combine with the Loose Valentines Assortment of Valentine pieces and make a shaker card. First, take a look at the challenge banner:

And here's a closer look at my card, with quick instructions:

• Card base: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" of Thick Basic White cardstock, scored at 4 1/4".
• Adhered a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of Beautiful Bokeh DSP in Berry Burst. Saved a small piece of the slice I cut off the 6" x 6" piece to be used as the backing on the shaker dome.
• I used the Joined Together 3D embossing folder to dry emboss a piece of Basic White cardstock 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" in size.
• I used the Vintage Jar punch to make the opening for the Vintage Jar Shaker Dome. After removing the protective film from the top rim of the dome, I inserted the dome up through the hole and sealed it to the back of the cardstock.
• I turned the whole thing over and filled the dome with the Loose Valentine's Assortment hearts and "sticks", but kept out any envelopes because they didn't look like candy. I filled it about 1/3 full.
• I removed the protective film on the bottom rim of the dome and used a piece of the left-over Bokeh paper, Berry Burst pattern down to seal off the shaker dome. I used Tombo glue to secure the rest of the DSP to the cardstock and added glue over all the back of the white cardstock as well and adhered it to the card front, centering it.
• I stamped the sentiment, from the Filled with Sweetness stamp set, in Berry Burst ink, on Basic White, then die cut it using the Filled with Sweetness dies. I added the sentiment using Stampin' Dimensionals. 
• I used a Three Colour Pack of Baker's Twine that I had in my stash, to tie a double finger bow and attach it to the neck of the vintage bottle.
• I added 3 Frosted Iridescent Dots to finish off.

I hope it looks enough like candy!
