One of the cuter sets to catch my eye in the Annual Catalogue is Postcard Pals. The sketchy, shaded line drawings are great for colouring, but would look super just stamped in a dark ink as well. I was in a nautical mood when I made this one, so the pelican had to be my choice. I love how he turned out when I got all my new Stampin' Blends out and put them to use!
Take a closer look:
- Actually, I think the only new colour Stampin' Blends I used on this picture was the Light and Dark Soft Suede for his hat. The rest I already had: Pumpkin Pie combo, Calypso Coral combo, Pool Party and Daffodil Delight combos , and the Smoky Slate combo, plus the Colour Lifter.
- The background is from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack, and then a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock run through the Big Shot with the Seaside embossing folder.
- I created a gold foil frame for the pelican to look like a porthole of sorts. I used two nesting Layering Circles Framelits to create it.
- The sentiment is also from Postcard Pals and it has been stamped in Mint Macaron and punched out using the Modern Label Punch and mounted on a 1/2" strip of some leftover Wood Textures DSP.
- I gave myself a refresher course on how to tie a sailor's knot and using the Mint Macaron Thick Twine from the Nature's Twine collection and some Thick White Baker's Twine I had in my stash I tied and added one to the card front.
- The final touch was two little starfish, die cut from the center of the sand dollar dies in the Under the Sea Framelits.
