Vintage Roots and Timely Reminders!

Well, it's July 30th and I'm in so much shock that summer is already half over! Where the heck did the time go? Right now it's incredibly hot and smoky where we live, so not so much fun outside, but hopefully that will all clear up soon. What we need is a good rain! Can someone please send some soon? Preferably without thunder and lightening, please!
I'm doing  a Technique class on Wednesday and Thursday evenings on vintage cards. We haven't done vintage techniques in quite a while, but it seems that elements of them are making a bit of a come-back, so I wanted to introduce these unique methods to a new generation of stampers. The card I'm sharing today is one of three samples that we will be doing at the class. I'd love to have you join us. To sign up, click the link at the top of the left hand menu on this page!

  • This card features a monochromatic look in Neutrals: Soft Suede, Sahara Sand and Copper.
  • I've used a design from the Nature's Poem Designer Series Paper which is part of the sales promotion that is still on for today and tomorrow only. See the details below and act fast!
  • I'm using up some retired Delicate White Doilies for this class, but you can purchase some current Pearlized Doilies that would do the same job.
  • The sentiment, from the Very Vintage Host Stamp Set, is embossed in Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder on a circle die cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits and stamped with an image from the same Very Vintage set. The image is stamped in Sahara Sand ink, stamped off once, for a fainter image that doesn't interfere with the sentiment.
  • Behind the circle, I've used glue dots to attach a selection of foliage stamped with images from the Rooted in Nature stamp set and die cut with the coordinating Nature's Root's Framelit Dies. (The stamp set and framelits can be bundled and purchased for a 10% savings) The leaves are stamped with Versamark ink and covered with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder and then heat set using the Heat Tool. The circle is added to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The little bow you see is made by taking a 6" length of Burlap Ribbon and cutting out the individual fibres and bunching 4 of them together to tie a bow. It's attached with a glue dot. The card is finished with some gold metallic pearls

Birthday Blooms for The Paper Players

The Paper Players have the most beautiful colour challenge this week. I couldn't resist playing along. In fact, I did two cards with the colour palette, I liked it so much. Today, I'm sharing the pretty card with you. On Friday, I'll share the fun card. The card today features the Birthday Blooms stamp set from the Annual Catalogue. It really is a gorgeous image and I haven't used it for so long. It really deserves much more time out of the box! First, take a look at the Inspiration Banner for The Paper Players Colour Challenge:

Is it just me, or does that combination rev up your mojo as well? So pretty. Here's how it turned out for my creation:

  • Dang! Photography just doesn't do that copper embossing justice! The beautiful Birthday Bloom itself is embossed using Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder as is the sentiment from the same stamp set and the splatters from Timeless Textures. The flower itself was sponged with some Blushing Bride Ink - just a hint, and the leaves with Smoky Slate. I fussy cut the bloom and removed some of the extra foliage and buds to simplify the image.
  • I created a little "texture nest" for the blossom with designs from Timeless Textures in Smoky Slate and Blushing Bride plus some splatter from Awesomely Artistic in Smoky Slate as well.
  • I kept the layering simple to focus on the Birthday Bloom and keep the card clean. The sentiment was die cut with the banner from Rose Garden Thinlits and another was cut in Smoky Slate and layered just underneath, looking like a shadow here.
