The theme of my Technique Nights this week is, of course, the new Annual Catalogue, and one product that I know is going to wow my class members is the You Move Me bundle from page 170. This is a fascinating set of stamps and thinlits that creates the illusion of fluttering wings. I've never seen anything quite like it before.
Quite apart from this fluttering feature, there are a lot of really cute images in this set and some two step stamping as well - flowers, butterflies and hummingbirds! But when you add in the movement feature, well... that just sends it over the top. Take a look at this quick video showing the fluttering motion:
The colours featured in this card are Flirty Flamingo, Sahara Sand, and Sweet Sugarplum.
- You make the pocket for the card to slip inside using Foam Adhesive Strips on the two sides and the bottom of the Sahara Sand panel. By using the 1" Circle punch to punch a thumbhole, it make it easier to grasp the Whisper White panel and pull it out. By the way, you MUST use the Precision Base Plate to die cut the grid you use to view the fluttering butterfly through. The magnetic platform does not work at all!
- The fluttering wings are accomplished by two step stamping with the You Move Me stamp set, using Sweet Sugarplum for the larger butterfly image and Flirty Flamingo for the smaller one. The trick is in lining up the images using the head and the tail to get it right.
- I love the simplicity of the flowers from this set. They have a little tab on them that helps you align the centers in the right place by lining up the tabs on both stamps. And don't you think those tiny butterflies are adorable! Also, two step stamping as you can see.
- As you can see, I put another part of the sentiment on the top of the pull out card, so it's kind of a hidden message, as you flutter that butterfly out of the pocket to reveal it.
- And finally, that die cut butterfly, is so pretty! This is a set that you can have a blast with! Next time I'm going to try the hummingbird!!
