Balloons and Daisies for The Paper Players

What do you get when you merge Balloon Celebrations with Delightful Daisy and a theme from The Paper Players? Well, you end up with a delightful birthday card, that's what! Still with limited Designer Series Paper to play with, I was looking for something besides a daisy to pair up with the Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper, when my eyes fell upon a stamp set I haven't used in ages, but is still available in the new Annual Catalogue - Balloon Celebrations! I've always loved how the two-step stamping in this set makes the balloons look kind of translucent and interesting, so I chose it and some colours matching the suite and came up with a birthday card!

Here's the theme banner from The Paper Players' Challenge:

And here's a closer look at the card I made:

  • The two designs of Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper that you see in this card are actually reverse sides of the same paper. I love the soft tones of Calypso Coral with bits of Pool Party, Night of Navy and Daffodil Delight in there. Those are the colours I chose for the card base and the balloons, as well as the sentiment.
  • It's been so long since I used the stamp set, Balloon Celebrations, that I forgot that there is a punch for those balloons and instead, I fussy cut them! Darn! Who wants to fussy cut when you don't have to. The coordinating punch is the Balloon Bouquet Punch.
  • I love how one of the balloon strings has a mini-sentiment right in it! I arranged my balloons without adhering them down and used a faint pencil dot at the bottom of each one to know where to have the balloon strings located. Then I removed the balloons and stamped the strings separately, with one being the one that contains the mini-sentiment.
  • Since Project Life Cards and Labels framelits are no longer current, I just don't know what I'm going to do for a shape to display my longer and larger sentiments. Here, I just cut a rectangle around my stamped sentiment, remembering to dry it first with my heat tool. That Night of Navy can take a long time to dry properly so it won't smudge on you. I didn't back it with another colour of cardstock, because I already had enough navy and everything else would have been difficult to see against that busy daisy background. I opted to leave it plain.
I'll be highlighting some Stampin' Up! new Product Videos over the next few blog posts to help you become familiar with what's in store for you in the new Catalogue:
